Looking at blackcaps.co.nz and cricinfo it appears our first international match of any kind is on 3rd Feb 2018?
That's crazy?

That's definitely not right. Pakistan and West Indies are coming. I just think the dates haven't been finalised.

Yep - weirdly I was looking at this yesterday too. There was a document about the WI and PAK tours, but without dates (just venues)

only 4 tests full stop University Oval misses out EP tests against Poms day nighter
yeah, it's a light season.
Only 4 months long. We are a minnow and it's irritating.
That's a fair point.
I do like the day/night test thing though. Shame it is eden pask which is hopeless for tests.

About time they brought a game back to Whangarei!
Already booked a day off work on Dec 20.
Looking forward to it, but it'll probably fucking rain though. They really should schedule cricket matches up here in February when the weather is generally way more settled.
-
Shouldn't be ungrateful... but...
Bay Oval gets 3 games ... but they all start at 7pm.. which is stink for a young family compared to a 2pm start.

Can't believe we are only playing 4 tests. White basically said we will never have another three test series at home. That's just sad.
What an atrocity.
I'd far rather they play a 5, or even 3 test series against one incoming touring team, then none against the next, than 2x ridiculous 2 test series against both.
Meanwhile Aussie, India and England continue to play 20 tests a year.
It's just completely bloody unfair!

As was stated, we're a minnow when compared to those other sides. We are making up the numbers when it comes to test cricket.
If you look at the last 20 years we've had peaks and troughs in terms of how many tests we've played. So it's not that unusual.

There won't be any more peaks though. 4 home tests a summer maximum for the foreseeable future. We aren't that much of a minnow at test cricket - same ranking as test and odi cricket.

That's pretty much it. We may even drop to two tests per year under the new regime - we have to have reciprocal tours, home and away in a 4 year cycle. So two inbound tours a year, and a minimum single test match comprised a test series.
So, it's bad, and it could get worse ...

I agree that the Monday and Wednesday matches should be at 7pm but the Sunday game should be at 2 pm or even 5 pm.

If the World Test Championship gets approved later this year - each series will be a minimum two Tests, as two Tests have to count towards the test championship in every series. if you have a series of three or more Tests, only two tests will count towards the test championship.
There will be no series of one test, as two tests in every series have to count towards the test championship.
This does not stop New Zealand staging three tests per series at home, but it means negotiation with the visiting country to achieve it.

cheers, good to hear. The last proposal I saw had single tests counting as series, so sounds like I'm out of date. Must do less work and more cricket related reading.

4 test in 18 months. I feel sad.
Why even bother with Tests if that is out lot?
I imagine in that same time frame, the Aussie, India and England will all play 20-25 odd tests against each other?
What a joke.
In the same time, England has 21 tests

Root is going to race ahead of Kane in runs scored and for some reason, that always seems to be used as a measurement when assessing "greatness". They are neck and neck for tests now despite Kane having a 2 year head start.
Cook has played a ridiculous number of tests, isn't far past 30 and has Sachin in his sights for total runs - no New Zealander will ever get close unless they can play test cricket for 30 years.

We're pretty fucking far from being a minnow in test cricket. We've got some world class players and a fair bit of talent to back them up. We slap the minnows, including Sri Lanka and the West Indies on a regular basis, and we've never even lost to Bangladesh (huh Aussie). In fact the only thing that really stops us improving is a complete and utter lack of test cricket. 4 tests in 18 months is ludacris!
It's even more of a shame now that we have one of the worlds premiere batsmen in our ranks, and he won't be able to show how good he is because he won't be playing.
What a joke.
