Topic shamelessly stolen from Raw Rugby

Thoughts on the selections? I'm not convinced Schalk Burger should be there ahead of Jerry Collins 🎣

    Thoughts?

Buck Shelford makes the list, but no room for Richard Loe. Silly. And hardly any Frenchies. Joke.

Not even a penalty. Cited. Received a nine week suspension.

(I believe Meg was saying some disparaging comment about Bakkies dirty reputation during Saturday's test commentary.)

Springbok Captain John Smit summed things up best. "Only Bakkies can explain what goes on in his head."

Buck wasn't a dirty player. That punch was totally appropriate in that day and age where shit got sorted on field and laughed about over a beer later.

My brother used to work with an Aussie international in Sydney. He used to maintain that Andy Earl was the dirtiest player he’d played against. Then one Monday morning he came into the office after playing the Boks on the Saturday. He just said 2 words. “Uli Schmidt”.

Nesbit mentioned the 55-35 test in 1997 where a Bok got sent off (Venter). Marshall incomprehensibly suggests it was Bakkies. Botha played in the era after Marshall, how does he not know this?

Prety sure that Marshall and Bakkies would have played each other a few times in the early 2000's

Bakkies test debut was 2002 so if Nesbit was referring to 1997 think Marshall may have it all worng

What's the team? I'm not watching the vid.

My effort (albeit with Butch and Bakkies already mentioned above to trigger my memory) .

Test players only. Recentish years, the age of the TV camera.

It appears that the French gougers don't appear to get individually named, so this is quite harder than expected.

I went to school with Andy, so if that's as dirty as it gets maybe I could have been an All Black after all! 🙂

That guy who bit Fitzy's ear. I see the video gets Duncan McRae - his assault on O'Gara is about the worst I can recall in recent times.

I think if you went a bit further back, you'd find some guys who had pretty dark reputations. Grizz Wyllie for one.

Add in Loe and Andy Earl - maybe you could just pick a team of those Glenmark bastards! 🙂

Graeme Higginson played there for a while, I think.

There's probably other flankers who were dirtier across their whole career but Corne Krige deserves a mention for amassing the most runs in a match

    vs England 2002

I can't find the old uk sky video "5 seconds of madness" but in that sequence he:

    • Half hit Dawson with a swinging arm and accidentally gave team mate Pretorious a black eye
    • Put a knee into Dallaglio's back
    • Stomped on Vickery

Also in the same match he elbowed Robinson, punched Wilkinson a couple of times in the head, missed a punch on Dallaglio and he hit Dawson again.

Oh ffs yes their careers overlapped but Botha's career was predominately post Marshalls.

Marshall is still dumb af for thinking Botha was involved in that 1997 game.

I think Gerard Cholley should be in the list together with Jean-François Imbernon and Michel Palmie. The French bunch of 1977 was a terrifying outfit.
Jean-Pierre Garuet was more discret but vicious. He has admitted that he had voluntarily jumped on Campbell's knee during the 1987 WC semi final against Australia. This action ended Campbell's rugby career.

Moaner van Heerden was a notorious kicker of players on the ground. He booted Peter Whiting in the head in 1976. I heard Whiting refer to him as a “psychopathic prison guard”.
Steve Finnane was Australian heavyweight boxing champion and was mostly in the Aussie team for his punching. Became a barrister 😄.

Many years ago I read in the Rugby News, when it was a weekly, that MVH had tried his usual tricks against Rhodesia. Unfortunately for him their LH was in the SAS. MVH was taken off motionless on a stretcher.

A match between this team and a Manawatu team selected from players from the mid/late 70s/early 80s would see the Citing Commissioner working overtime.

You would pick more players from the pre-TV coverage/TMO days when anything goes. Some of the shit you read from games in the 1960s-80s makes many of these modern-day filth look tame in comparison.

Serial offenders like Hartley are just dumb with TV cameras everywhere.

Moaner Van Heerdan (see above) rucked Whiting on head with result that his ear was half hanging off. Something like forty stitches to reattach. Very dirty Cnut.
