ABs vs Kangaroos?

It'll only ever happen on a video game. The codes are vastly different and besides who is going to insure all the players? I wouldn't want to go down in history as the AB who's career got cut short because of an injury in a game like that
So no-one should play Barbarians either, because there's a risk of injury and the game doesn't matter? The (alleged) huge payout vs the Kangaroos would more than cover the insurance.
It is a fahken stupid idea. It's not the risk of injury, but the fact that all the players in the ABs would have to suspend their rugby training to learn another game. Only to then have to unlearn it. Why would the coaches want their team to do that? Just after a World Cup would do the least amount of damage in that regard, but it's still not a good idea to train for the wrong game.
And after the RWC the ABs will be badly needing a rest and in no mood to take on a new challenge. They would have no focus, most having just passed the major peak of their careers.

@chester-draws learning a new code to be able to keep up with seasoned test players would be difficult in a short time. Just look how long it took BBBT and Sonny

I moved it to the thread where it was last mentioned
Once every three years seems about right for this rumour. League writers must be getting bored again

If I was a player insurer I would be saying “no cover” to that.
Willingly putting yourself on the field under untried rules with others who have an instinct to shoulder smash you is a recipe for injury. -
they are completely different sports. it makes zero sense.

According to the article below, NZR have confirmed the talks.
To me, it's just an awful money grab. I'd not watch it.
From what I've seen on social media, the scrums would be league-scrums. Eight tackle rolling mauls with no play the ball. After eighth drive team must kick. No line-outs.

No different to going off to play sevens, technically that's a different sport too.
It's just a bit of fun, shouldn't be taken too seriously.
Agreed and I would watch in a heartbeat if they truly put out a full strength Kangaroo team.

You would likely get die hard Kiwi league fans that would support the Kangaroos in this. You could sell out Eden park (in this climate) for this match.

And depowering scrums for something like this is just the reality for safety, unless they drafted some Wallaby props.
@Kirwan said in ABs vs Kangaroos?:
As for the nancys worrying about injuries, Rugby is a contact sport. League is a contact sport.
Changing your tune? Fuck them leagueys, they should man up! Nancys
-
how do you see the rules developing?
Scrums? obviously no
Lineouts?
Rucks?
Mauls?
Possession limits?
Offside lines? -

The game itself would be a joke. No lineouts because league doesn't have locks, no rucks, no mauls, no scrums because they'd have half of them in traction after the first. At best it would be Brumby ball. Who the fuck wants to watch that?
