Looks like the army are removing his support and leaving him as a figurehead. Hopefully his demise is similar to Gaddafis but slower.

Muammar Gaddafi died from wounds he suffered in an attack by rebels after he had already been captured and not in a firefight, according to a major report today on the Libyan dictator’s last hours.

@booboo ie the General of the Army. It is a sad fact that there are lots of countries that simply don't do democracy.

A good friend of mine is Zimbabwean, this isn't welcome news. As much as Mugabe was a Hitlerian level douche the guy looking to replace him isn't any better. Worries for family and friends. Hard to imagine a coup being bloodless there.

@rembrandt that's always the way though isn't in these places...you take out one dictatorship and replace with another who wants to make their mark, or if you have the West trying to 'help' them into Democracy you leave a hole for all sorts of shit.

Iraq have done well in Saddam's absence!

I'm reading this is a clever power play by Mugabe's young wife.

Don't know about 'clever power play' but there are certainly some parallels with Imelda Marcos here. I don't think we've seen the last of Grace.

Mugabe has agreed to step down , not sure if he’s going into exile . If he is they should organise a stopover in South Africa for Grace to do some sightseeing.

    Of a jail cell.

For Bob yes, Grace can answer her charges in South Africa first. I’m sure their prisons aren’t as comfortable as whatever The Hague has to offer.

    This makes for depressing reading,
