1995 RWC ABs team Dr confirms our suspicions

"... Steve McDowall is sweating profusely after a few scrums."
What dickhead wrote this and who edited it? Holy shit that is fucking terrible.
But yeah the 1995 thing sucked and those that say the abs choked that day can go fuck themselves. Well I suppose they did choke - on their own vomit.
I don't know how Saffa fans are these days but they (at least the ones I talked to about it) used to lose their shit at any mention of the abs being sick that day.
-
@rancid-schnitzel think they lifted some if the text from one of the books that was published. Like Mains's book.
Reckon it was a Bob Howitt special but they're too lazy to eedit it properly.
The doctor actually says fuck all.

That article does nothing other than reinforce the belief others hold that New Zealand comes up with excuses when they lose.
The All Blacks went back the next year and won a test series. I know which I prefer.
-
It’s just stupid to use it as an excuse. Either it should have been declared pre-match that NZ had an outbreak of food poisoning and couldn’t field a team...or the game was played and NZ took it on the chin.
If we’d won this wouldn’t have come up.

I've always found the 'keep it a secret' part strange. As I knew in advance they were sick from RNZ news reports.
My memory is that it was on Thursday evening radio news reports. I was like oh shit, nah they'll be ok by match day.
I'm now getting to the stage where I doubt my memories though .....
Thursday evening NZ time would have been too soon.

As we know, Thursday morning is team naming time.

I think the spectre of a poisoning conspiracy adds to the history of the RWC.
There is no doubting many of the ABs werent right, whether the result of poisoning or just dumb luck of eating soemthing that made so many sick, I guess we will always speculate.
-
@taniwharugby Yeah. I have said the same thing to many Saffas. They were definitely sick, whether they were deliberately poisoned or not who knows. It really could have just been "something in the water".
I didn't know that the infamous "Suzie" was employed 2 days before the illness and then disappeared immediately afterwards. Never heard that one before and is certainly dodgy but circumstantial at best.

We're a real nation of whingers when things don't go our way when it comes to rugby. It irks me even more than the pathetic chip so many kiwis have on their shoulders about Australian sport. Anyone want to start a thread about the underarm incident?
The game was lost in 1995. Time to forget it and move on.

Nah. As someone said above it's part of the folklore of the World Cup.
And do you think the anger about sporting injustice is exclusive to us?
Does Australia remember Bodyline? Are the Irish about to give honorary citizenship to Thierry Henry? Have we gone to war over the result of a footy match?
Perhaps it's time to lose the anger, but forget it? Nah. It has a special part in our sporting history.

I don't understand the bit about Thierry Henry. Everyone knows Soccer is for fags.

In 1925 Scotland refused to play the abs because they were still pissed over the split of the gate takings in 1905 . In between the matches there’d been a war involving the whole planet in which millions died, Russia had gone communist, the Ottoman Empire had fallen and the Scots were still harbouring a grudge .

The tone of this post indicates you think holding a grudge is a bad thing. It's not. ESPECIALLY if it's about Scots and money....

Au contraire - I read that as support of holding grudges being all good, and we've got lots to learn.
