Oh that’s the best part, he loves it. He’s way more social than me, and loves the group aspect. So cool watching the first ever deadlift and bench press, or watching him learn how to push through wanting to stop.
He got bored today so did a little solo workout in his room with press ups and squats too.
We had to get his height for a passport photo, little bugger is only 10cm shorter than me at 12. I’m short, but come on.
As for my strength, not sure how close I will get. The last five years have pushed me into mid 40s, so stuff is a little harder Main goal is have more energy and endurance. I fade hard at the moment, so would like to last better for the longer workouts.
Did a 50min abomination the other day that utterly shattered me. The boy was not happy either, which helped

Started adding 5km runs into the weekly schedule to build up to the three xFit sessions I'm planning from March.
Not particularly fast, but my usual speed. My back tightened up, which of course I ignored, and deadlifts finished that off a few days later.
Two weeks later, and after some physio (with a distractingly hot physio, jesus christ), planning on heading back to the gym on Thursday. Got a run in fine on Monday, no pain anymore, just a bit of tightness.
Been give a list of excercises and stretches to improve my core to try and prevent it happening again. Having to be more mindful of maintenance as I get older
Weight under 83kg, still working towards under 80kg.

@Kirwan what stuff did you get for core strengthening? I need to do the same, my back def gets tight and tender after some lifting.
Always the core aye! Such a .... central ... component of our body 😁
Pilates type stuff really. Back is still tight, so there is glute and hip stretches, child pose, then planks and side planks.
I was doing some easier stuff last week, mostly focusing of pushing back into the floor and doing exercises with the legs, just to keep the core engaged. That was pretty easy though.
I suck at planks.

Ok got my back sorted and slipped on my deck on the way to the gym and pulled my calf.
Not my month! Heading back today, only two other people booked in so should be able to keep 1.5m away from the class...
Without the exercise, I doubled down on the fasting and over the past three weeks have dropped under 80kg.
Best fast I got up to was 48hours. Wouldn’t have been able to do it if I wasn’t so busy at the moment, and found a good video game (Division 2)
A hair off 16kg lost from my illness peak weight.

@Kirwan tell me you're not wearing gloves!
I'm going back to the gym tomorrow and know they require you to bring a towel and clean equipment down. I'm going to do legs so that'll be pretty easy for me. No way I'm using machines!

I wish I was, too many pull-ups and I’ve torn up my hands.
Had hand sanitizer at the fron which everyone had to use, was good.

Crap few weeks. Some of the health issues I have reared up again and gym workouts were getting "interesting".
So went back to the cardiologist to get everything re-checked and got told that was the end of high intensity (for me!) training. Was risking passing out, which I don't think would have been a good idea doing any of the olympic lifts, or even a backsquat.
Bizarely, my heart is actually very healthy. The electrics are all fucked up though, so when I push hard it goes "calm down" and sends the signal to beat slower! Not helpful.
Was able to force it on a treadmil, just running hard up an incline.
So back to focusing on the fasting, which I dropped during lockdown boredom. And probably watching netflix on a bike/rower.

@Kirwan dude that is rough news. Do you have any sense of what heart rate range you can safely work in? Hmm could you change tack and move into slower paced weight lifting etc? ie drop the intensity but still lift?
I tried that approach, but he was was pretty clear that it needs to be low intensity stuff from here on in. That's fine, just have to make a new habit.
Confirmation of my stubborness, not that anyone here or married to me needed any, but it's an achievment I was even doing the workouts. I just thought I was struggling to keep my fitness, and it was normal to collapse on the ground afterwards to recover
Turns out if your heart rate doesn't increase sometimes during exercise bad things happen.

@Kirwan ha ha well you've outlasted the only other poster who could challenge you in the stubborn stakes!!
You've got this bro - lol you can just keep hassling jnr to keep up with Crossfit or HIT training.
That's the most disappointing aspect, that was something we were able to do together. Have to get him into rowing instead.

CrossFit Kirwan has opened for business. Cleared out my garage, bought some weights and signed up to virtual gym that does the program and I do the workout.
Short version of the health issue was chronic migraines. I was getting 3 or 4 a week (for a fucking year) and that caused havoc on all sorts of things. Made me dizzy/lightheaded, forgetful, as well as the pain side of things. Good dose of my namesake’s affliction as well.
Have gone through a series of treatments, and am out the other side. Am a physical wreck, so time to sort that out.
Just did the first workout. It mentioned a series of exercises but all I remember is holding up the wall.
Felt good to be moving.

@kirwan great for mental health too in these crazy times!! Good stuff!
Yep, that’s on the list of reasons to get off my arse.
