He was 74 . My favourite story about him was when he played against Pinetree in an all black trial and he was creating all sort of chaos. Mead’s decided sort him out and punched him in the chops , he expected him to drop but it had no effect at all . Murdoch turns and says “ is that all you’ve got old man?” , Meads thinking on his feet replied “ that was just a warning shot” and did his best to stay out of his reach for the rest of the game.

His was an interesting story ,

treated like a bit of a circus act at the time ,

We will never know how much he suffered mentally , to never return to NZ and run away to the middle of nowhere like that was a drastic thing to do ,

        RIP

I think on one of those docos they actually discovered he'd been coming back to NZ regularly in the early days.

Yeah I worked with a guy who worked with him on one of the tunnels in the central north island in the 80s . There’s that story about him in All Black greats about how he was at a mates place in the late 70s and their kid drowned and Murdich revived him with mouth to mouth resuscitation. Apparently he was a surf livesaver in Dunedin.
I read somewhere he missed an ab trial when he got on the piss with some commercial fishermen and woke up the next day on their boat in Foveaux strait .

@mn5 For not backing him and telling the manager and Welsh officials to fuck off I assume?

Yeah but he's the one who packed a sad and fucked off for years. I do find the whole 'mystique' a bit of a load of wank to be honest.

I thought that was it too. That was not a great tour , there were a couple of other players that were pretty rowdy on itand I think they made an example of him.

I don't think that has anything to do with it - I think it's just about not backing him on the tour.

Just so you all know that incident in Tennant Creek had nothing to do with Murdoch. Both he and I were blamed for it by the scum who actually did do it.We could have given them up but neither one of us are toads like them.I shared the house with Murdoch for 2 years and have nothing but good words for the man.

Been a couple articles in NZH the past few days about Ernie Todd’s “deathbed confession”s to his daughter and a friend. They say Todd told them Murdoch had a gin-problem, was shown a return plane ticket and warned he was going home if he didn’t behave, then got drunk and started skirt-chasing in the hotel. Tane Norton disputes.

                                Here’s the latest...

Rugby: Keith Murdoch drunken rampage allegations emerge in All Blacks manager Ernie Todd's deathbed confession

Saw this was on near the top of the topics again and thought didn't Keith die last year? Then I thought, perhaps he died again? Coming back from the dead would be a tough task, even for Keith.
