What 21st century works of pop culture will endure and remain relevant and valued after another 20 years?

    My guesses:

    Taken
    Sopranos (1999 - 2007, but I'm sticking it in)
    Step Brothers
    Zodiac
    Mulholland Drive
    Team America: World Police
Cum Town (last funny thing before actual comedy jokes get banned)
    9/11

If I follow this correctly ...

    Game of Thrones
Adele (not my pref, but I can't think of any other music artist so far of the 21st century that will be relevant in 2o years)
    Coldplay

It's quite a hard one isn't it - I'm thinking of early noughties stuff that is still relevant, and I can't think of much at all ... Dave Matthew band was one of the biggest on the earth back then, and I've not heard anything of him in about 15 years.

@majorrage Yeah, music's a really tough one. Most of the popular stuff, hip-hop aside (contemporary stuff - I know little about), is pretty derivative and uninteresting/unoriginal. I'm picking that it'll be something instrumental that helps spawn a new genre down the track, but was only popular in its niche originally.

On that note I'd pick some of the Kompakt Records stuff, like Heroin by Superpitcher.

Do you think memes will give stuff less "stickability" given shit gets hammered in social media then gets old quickly?

Actually thats my answer. The big memes

Not really. It certainly sucks the life out of things now, but their effect will be quickly forgotten. That context won't matter in 20 years.

It'd be fun if you could recycle your knowledge of big brain wojaks and rare pepes in 20 years time for the kids. Just don't say "meme magic". It's a pity that wojak wasn't around back when Thomopedia used to post here. (Duluth's Lionel Hutz use was ace though.)

On that note, It'd be great if Sam Hyde became a cult figure then.

The problem with music is WE are all getting old. It's fucken tough to find something we like that's new and not auto tuned shit.

I almost liked Greta Van Fleet but their Led Zep homage got boring really quick.

If you are going to include The Sopranos you need to include Breaking Bad.

I have very fond memories of Dad and I watching the Simpsons. Dad pretended it was daft but he loved it and made sure we watched it when mum wasn't around!

That will annoy the shit out of JK Rowling.

But for you guys she could potentially have sold 500,000,013 books - or 500,000,014 if MN5 only borrowed Book 1.

When she started writing them digital books weren't really a thing and the publishers foolishly let her have the exclusive rights to them. Damn that must hurt.
