After reading Ronnie Wood's book, i've listened to a bit of the Stones. I'm still not a massive fan, but good Rolling Stones is really fucking good.
As per our earlier discussions, if i had to list my top 10 favourite Stones' songs, it would read like a list of their top 10 songs by sales/air play, there wouldn't be much in the way of obscure album tracks stuck in there.
I just don't like their music. However I don't find them objectionable (like Radiohead) and have no issue with others being huge fans of theirs.
I likely can't name 10 of their songs.
I'd happily read books about them though.
i reckon you probably could, their music is that ubiquitous
Oh I reckon if I heard 20 of their songs I'd know them all but the only ones I can think of to name off my head are: Brown Sugar, Sympathy for the Devil (which is the song I really don't get how it's popular), Wild Horses, Satisfaction, Paint it Black.
I can't decide which of the Beatles or Stones are more horrifically overrated.
They're not terrible but by God there's better stuff out there.
Bands in and around that era like Zep, Doors, Deep Purple, Floyd, Sabbath, the Who etc shit all over both in my opinion.
I love the Beatles. I don't think any of those you listed are better and I definitely think Zep are hugely overrated. I'm not a good barometer though as I finished my classic hard rock liking era before I finished high school. I'll still listen to the occasional Floyd or The Who though.
I'd call Zep probably THE greatest rock band of all time.
The pommy guy I’m working with did some work on Jimmy Pages house about 20 years ago. He wasn’t a fan of their music and had no idea who he was at first , said Page is a monumental twat prone to tantrums if he doesn’t get his own way . Also reckoned Pages mrs at the time looked about 14 years old.
He must have made quite an impression judging by the rant my pommy mate had about him though . -

Have you read Slash’s book ? He’s got some interesting stuff about the Stones in there .
Yeah ... I think I've read all of Gun's n Roses various books. I think Duffs was the best.
Haven’t read that one yet , the lead singer of Iron Maiden has one out now . That should be pretty good , he’s led a very storied life .

A list of well known bands from the era better than the Stones that doesn’t mention the Faces is not a list.
You could lump Small Faces, Faces and Humble Pie together. The latter two don't exist without the former band.
Absolutely, I mentioned Faces only as in both form and music they were closest comparison to the Stones.
Rod Stewart was easily Jaggers match as a frontman and was a much better singer. -

Give the Duff one a read, he's got more going on than music in comparison to the other GnR members.

Shit, that's quite unusual.

to complete this, and prove my point that this is a Greatest Hits list
- Brown Sugar
- Gimme Shelter
- Jumpin Jack Flash
- It's Only Rock & Roll
- Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)
- Honkey Tonk Woman
- 19th Nervous Breakdown
- Paint It Black
- Start Me Up
- Angie
-
Sympathy for the Devil would be in my top 2 with Gimme Shelter.
I did see the Rolling Stones on the A Bigger Bang tour in 2006 as I fully expected some of them to be dead by now! Well not, Keith.

I saw them in 1995 , They looked pretty old then . Bill Wyman had stayed home to shag pre teens and Muzzle Skillings from living colour was on bass.

loved the Stones in my teens, tried to revisit recently but seems I've thrashed them to death. Even pulled out Beggars Banquet lp last night but nope. No mas.
Oddly quite a large % on hardcore fan sites cite their fave Stones lp's as Aftermath and Between the Buttons. I wouldve thought accepted wisdom went
Exile
Let it bleed
Beggars banquet...followed there by the endless circuitious tail-chasing and bickering over gold/silver/bronze
The thing about the Stones is that when you're young, they just sound better and better the LOUDER you play them. I would play the Let it Bleed lp in particular - Gimme Shelter, Midnight Rambler - at SKULL-SHEARING volume and still it was never loud enough
I had "Only Rock & Roll" LOUD this morning getting ready for work. Drowned out the kids bickering

But you didn't get to see Nickelback opening for them.

Haha , I don’t actually mind them too much, I reckon they are this generations version of AC/DC . People love slagging them off but they seem to attract huge crowds to their concerts , they are supposed to be great live.
Btw, what the hell is on Joeys head?

Nickelback are all energy with their live performance although the typical Stones crowd is not their demographic.
Alive or abundant energy?
