Tech Purchase Thread

The Apple watch was a success so I have started a tech purchase thread.
I now need wireless headphones (Not the massive bhuttie ones, more the in ear ones)They need to be able to stay in when running/at the gym etc etc. So this counts out the Apple version as they are a bit rubbish in this case.
Looking to use flybuy points and there are some Bose ones. When younger Bose was top of the pile but are they still??
Any recommmendations will be gratefully received

Two come to mind:
- Jaybird Run True Wireless Sport In-Ear Headphones
- Jabra Elite Active 65t Wireless Earbuds
The Jabra's are more expensive (by about +50%)
The problem with them both is neither do USB-C charging. Which pisses me right off.
If you can wait and trust the internet, there's these: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/eoz-air-world-s-most-advanced-wireless-earphones-headphones#/

Great stuff. Thanks.
That link didn't work for me?

@antipodean What about the Jabra Wireless Sports Headphones? Any good. Just looking on flybuys site and it has these.

I'm put off by the wireless sports because they're so big. I already have a heart rate monitor and GPS watch etc, I see no need for headphones to be oversized, compromise on battery life and driver size to accommodate a heart rate monitor.

@taniwharugby good point. Plus I'm impressed at your attempt to get us talking about your flaps.

Quick question:
Buying a phone for which support has just ended. Stupid idea?
Do you do banking on the phone? As long as you don't put any personal details on the phone that you would be upset with being stolen, the lack of security updates probably won't be a problem.
If it's an Android phone, that's a malware target IMO. Out of support iPhone probably not as much of an issue.
-
very late to this thread, which headphones did you get @Hooroo ?
I got Jabra elite 7 active a couple of months ago and they're pretty much perfect, had jaybird before those and they were great too, pretty much as @antipodean suggested
-
@kirwan It's an android phone.
My sister's phone died on the weekend. She went to two repair shops and they both told her it's a reasonably rare model for which they don't have parts, so they can't repair it. This model is still available at Noel Leeming for a reasonable price. She can only afford a budget phone and she liked the phone she had, so is considering buying this model again. I told her to wait, because I wondered whether the phone was still supported and, sure enough, when I googled it, I read that support ended in November 2021.
I think she had a banking app on it. And an app to top up the snapper card she uses for the bus.
Thanks for the reply. I'll advise her not to buy this phone.
Do you happen to know anything about the brand Oppo; is it reliable? I saw one with good specs that was still reasonably priced and might be a good alternative for my sister (about $80 more than the phone she had).

Oppo
I don't know much about it, but a quick skim of various comparison reviews they seem pretty good value. This is where Andriod + Chinese manufacturers shine, lots of choice at the lower end of the market.
Is there a particular model you are looking at?
-
@kirwan There's still a cheaper one. Around $250, but I read some comments about this model being sluggish due to the chipset they used. Screen resolution and camera also not as good as in the other model. My sister uses her phone much more often than I do. I guess it being slow(ish) could bother her.

OPPO A16s
Still good battery life, but getting to the point I'm not sure how they can make them so cheap. Skimmed reviews had a mixture of happy users and people complaining about speed (but they were gaming, which this device would be terrible for).
It's not my money, but I would spend a little bit more and have it last longer. Stuttering performance would be a pain to use.

I honestly can't remember! I ditched the watch not long after buying it. Just too ugly to wear. They look horrid.

Re-vamping the rumpus room, and have a requirement for a new TV, yeehaa!
Will wall-mount a 55-inch set.
Any suggestions? Anyone seen the LG C1 that headlines this review?
OLED if you have no light in the room.
If brightly lit, seriously look at the Neo QLED. I bought a Samsung Q90 65 inch for the lounge last year, and it has been simply sensational.

It's a reno currently, but I'd expect it won't be very bright.

Cool
I thought the same, but got massive reflection on my plasma. OLED the same I understand... But they are good panels.
Good luck, not many bad decisions let's be honest

@voodoo I've got the 52" version of this. Really happy with it - Google TV is the shiz. I'd recommend a soundbar if you want proper sound though. We've just got a cheap optical one that I chuck on for F1, big rugby matches and movies.

@Nepia said What is the bundled Apple subscription?
Apple One. Bundles Music, Apple TV+, iCloud all into one sub at a discount.
I do a family subscription so for me it meant that TV+ was effectively a couple of bucks a month.Oh, no point for me, I only get TV+.

I think Sony and Samsung will be releasing QD OLED tvs this year (tipped to be the top tvs this year). Otherwise you can't really go wrong with the LG.
Disclaimer is I don't really know what I'm talking about.
Jeez, it's confusing isn't it?
What I really, really want, is to find a telly that does great sport. No ball lag ever. I don't want to see a fuzzy footy or 3 tennis balls. Just razor sharp clarity and seamless. movement
You can shove your "deep blacks " and "rich contrasts" up your qdlcdoledqledpalsmas

@tim I have a 55” Sony A8X and a 65” A90J. The picture is sensational on both, the newer one is maybe a bit better as you’d expect but not much in it. While they re OLEDS there’s no more reflection than their earlier TVs as they’ve always put very glossy coatings on their Bravias. They use the screen as the speaker so although they are incredibly thin TVs the sound is quite good. Can’t use a soundbar though if you have them table mounted because they sit flush to the table, so a soundbar obscures the bottom couple of inches.
I’d recommend a A90J but not if you intend using a soundbar.
Edit: should add the A90 you can adjust its legs so it stands up a bit higher but they are disappointingly flimsy for a Sony product so no good for me.

It would be great if he can find a setting or Samsung provide an update. For the price it's a great panel and I'd like a couple in my new man's cave.
-
@antipodean Sony will have a TV with that panel out soon, but will probably be a little more expensive?
-
@antipodean Might only be about $500?
-
@voodoo lol, so was this to fix your other tech TV problem? (with the apps) F*ck it buy a new one
respect!
