EPL 18/19

  • Top level soccer players work fucking hard for their ridiculous money. It seems like the World Cup just finished, and yet the Premier League kicks off this weekend, actually in the morning with Man U v Leicester.

Change this year, with the transfer window closing yesterday rather than after the first 2 weeks or what ever. And it was a surprisingly quiet window.
Man City added a couple, but nothing really notable
Man U added a couple, but probably not what they needed, and if you listen to their manager, not what he wanted.
Liverpool did great, and strengthened every area they needed to. Which worries the fuck out of me. Every single time we have a good season, it's followed by a shit one. This time we are starting with the pressure of being dubbed "best of the rest"
Arsenal were decisive, new manager, 5 new players, but nothing huge. Still lost the community shield easily though
Chelsea new manager, 4 new players. Lost their gun keeper though.
Tottenham did absolutely nothing. That's dangerous.

I would like to welcome back Fulhan to the top table, always had a soft spot for them, and i hope they do well.

Who wins? Fuck knows. Probably City, considering how much better they were than everyone last year.

Um sorry, what?? Who lost the Comedy Shield?

  • yea fuck, good typo dickhead. I meant Chelsea, the other team who sacked their manager. Arsenal were disappointing elsewhere...

  • English clubs can still sell players, just not buy anyone now.

I watched the highlights of the Arsenal pre-season games and I can already see noticeable changes to how we'll play under Emery, i.e., more high pressing, man marking on corners.

This cartoon sums up the transfer market.

  • Spurs 2
    Newcastle 1

Spurs with flukey away win. They were a bit shit defensively. Areola and the welsh git fullback love going forward but not so wildly keen on getting back. Couple them with Sanchez and his total ballwatching fuckup for the goal today and Poch should be antsy. FFS just get Alderweireld back in. Rose, Ald, Vert, Trippier with Wanyama/Dembele/Dier in front of them. Fuck Sissoko, the unco cunt has rocks in his boots, pinging bullet passes at teammates from 5 yards, the cross-eyed git is a fucken turnover machine.

  • Why is Rafa sticking that shitshow out?

  • Crystal Palace to win it all.

And by win it all I mean come top 12

  • @baron-silas-greenback

I would be very happy to see that but you didn’t have to start by schooling us in the difference between championship and PL at Craven Cottage

No charity at all from Uncle Woy

  • was determined I wasnt going to get sucked into this Prem league narrative but ffs here I am

    Chelski 3
    Chundersfield Town 0

huddersfield were pretty good here, buoyed by raucous home support. All in vain of course. These big 6 teams, ffs, the best player on the havenots team is never even as good as the guy on the end of the big boys BENCH.

Reduces the whole thing to an inevitable parade of attack vs defence where the only real reason to watch is in the futile hope that something goes implausibly wrong for the top 6 team. whatever happened to that "Financial Fair Play" thing?

    Mansheikster 2
    Arse 0

Arse werent actually that bad but speaking of FCC, FFS, Mansheikster here with basically another downpayment on a title. Buying 8 of the 20 best players in the whole premier league and putting them in ONE team will do that. Fuck these cunts. Not watching this shit any more.

  • The viewing numbers for the EPL in NZ are very low so Spark could just be repeating the failure of Coliseum Sports. As a fan I don't even subscribe to beIN.

I'm one of the few that has bein. Depending on the price I wouldn't mind getting an on demand subscription so I can watch it on any device

  • I'm only interested in watching sport on a big screen, and preferrably in HD. Streaming to a device only with no casting would be a big step backwards.

The devil will be in the details of what Spark will offer, the platforms they will support, and most importantly the price.

I used to watch the coliseum feed on my laptop while on treadmill. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone

  • oh baby, knew there would be a GIF of this moment v West Ham somewhere on internet...

  • @rocky-rockbottom fuck i love him

  • It's almost worth learning photoshop JUST so I can pencil the inevitable two wangers into his fists.

No doubt, someone will already be onto it.

  • @canefan
Further to the viewing numbers of the EPL on Sky, I saw this info:

The EPL represents 0.3% of the viewing on the Sky platform. This is even after taking all the free-to-air channels out. By comparison the NBA is over 2%.

  • It's like the summer never happened.

City are running rough-shod all over the competition. Lost our best player? No worries, we'll stick 6 past our next opponents.

Arsenal have come away from their incredibly tough start with nothing. Man U have already had a slip that no one can have if they are chasing City down.

Liverpool have won twice which is nice. Chelsea and Spurs also. But 2 games in, and it feels like everyone is playing for 2nd.

  • Fulham are successfully lulling everyone into an appearance of mediocrity.

It's so fiendishly clever it has the appearance of stupidity. Just imagine how good we'd have been if we hadn't spent 100,000,000 quid.
