And now Liverpool beat moneybags PSG in the Champs League. In a nice change they led by 2, threw it away late, but won in extra time. That's new for Liverpool.

I'm trying very very hard not to, but a part of me is starting to believe.

    and Spurs have lost another.

who have Arsenal got in their Champions League group?

    I'm not seeing the relevance?

    just asking

Look! We have high expectations this year. Fighting for 4th and making it out of the second group of Europa league.(If that's how they still do it)

3 on the bump is a minor miracle after the start to this season

  • Salah was disappointing in the PSG game, and was responsible for Mbappe's goal. Any Liverpool fan expecting a repeat of last year's heroics from him might be out of luck.

Liverpool were the better team though so deserved to win.

I saw the last 15 mins of the Spurs game. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

  • Watched a bit of the Spurs game today - they look a shadow of last year's team. They just play slow, possession football quite badly as far as I can see. Their strength was the speed they played at making it hard for opposition teams to match them especially with the movement they had. I could hardly watch what I saw this morning, it was so dull.

  • Ole Jose having a torrid ole time at the mo.

Team booed off the pitch after a nil nil v Valencia.

    Thoughts @Rocky-Rockbottom ?

l0l, Spurs new stadium sounds like a typically Spursy operation

    https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/projects/inside-spurs-stadium-ive-never-in-my-life-worked-like-that/10035311.article

“Stop what you’re doing!” cries a supervisor, halting the work of a gang of electricians on Tottenham Hotspur’s new £850m stadium.
The sudden stop is due to the appearance of workers from an air-conditioning subcontractor, who are carrying a large piece of metallic piping. These AC workers have turned up to finish their installation. The problem is, the electricians were told the AC work had already been completed.
As a result, all the work the electricians had done has to be torn out. This is made all the more frustrating by the fact that completed electrics, carried out on the exact same spot, had already been completely ripped out two weeks earlier for the same reason.

That's what happens when Daniel Levy tries to do it on the cheap and fails to appoint a project manager. Typical pound foolish behaviour by our illustrious leader. The new place looks pretty cool though

  • Spurs-Barca tomorrow. I expect plenty of goals.

    Certainly not wrong.

  • Spurs were in the Xmas spirit by gifting Barca 2 goals.

Not a good night for the English teams.

As usual in the UCL, the groups are a little unbalanced. Both Liverpool and Spurs are in groups with 3 strong teams - Liverpool should be OK based on their home fortress but Spurs are going to have to both that Barca don't gift points to Inter.

  • Seems like we have a real title race.

Chelsea, City and Liverpool all tied on points. Arsenal just behind and ever-improving.

I think City and Chelsea look the most likely to go on with it and fight it out until May. For all Liverpool's spend and improvement, it still doesn't feel like a title is there for the taking.

Who knows what the fuck is going on at Man U.

  • @mariner4life a real pleasant surprise to see us win 9 in a row in all comps. Some tidy football thrown in similar to the early Wenger days.

In saying that we usually look ok, this side of Christmas

  • @hooroo Ramsey's goal was one for the highlight reels. He'd only been on the field for 38 secs.

  • @bovidae wasn't a fucking highlight for me

  • @dogmeat said in EPL 18/19:

    Fulham not enjoying life

  • @mariner4life I still think Spurs will finish higher than Arsenal once they get their mojo (players) back.

Strangely enough Liverpool aren't reaching the heights of last season but similarly they aren't plumbing the depths either and that is what will keep them in the race. They really need sides to come onto them to given them the space for the fantastic 3 to flourish - but teams are getting wise to them this season and keeping them quiet. Not sure City will run away with it but they still look the most likely to not slip up against the weaker teams especially once Kevin de B is back.

Of the teams to battle Man U for 6th (!), Wolves look really good.

  • @mariner4life Equal worst start to a season having spent 100 million quid over the summer...

Not that 100 Mill is a lot of money nowadays

Injuries - different formation, tactics, and line-ups for every game. The club record unbeaten run seems a loooong time ago.

Fortunate that Huddersfield and Cardiff are in this years PL

We have had a pretty tough run of fixtures. After next 3 Cardiff, Bournemouth, Huddersfield will hopefully not have a sore neck from looking up the table.

Could get ugly though if we don't sort out our defence. Still think squad is too good to struggle all season. But last time we went down the average pre season prediction was we would finish 9th.

  • @kiwipie Spurs won't have the CL distraction to worry about for much longer. 🙂

Then it's Thu night games in some European city...

  • @kiwipie 5 clean sheets in 8 games is a good way to stay at the top. And a mile from last year! That first 8 games includes Chelsea, Spurs and City as well.

  • @mariner4life Exactly - seems they are being talked down due to not banging in 4 or 5 every game but they are still unbeaten and their depth is much better.

  • @dogmeat Fulham remind me of Bournemouth in their first season, predictions of doom as they were given some hidings but with enough attacking talent to beat the weaker teams. Fulham have plenty going forward which should given them enough wins to stay up.

  • United lose another (at home to Juve) The chosen one is on fairly shaky ground, I imagine.

  • I hope Jose kept that hoodie on if he walked home too.

  • @hooroo said in EPL 18/19:

They are beginning to look like plucky underdogs when playing the European elite. Positive thing for them is that they should still qualify if they beat Young Boys at home - although maybe Jose fancies the Europa where they can be more evenly matched.

Meanwhile City yesterday were frightening, they really could have run up double figures against Shaktar. With KdB back, their options in attacking midfield are spectacular and he balances up the ridiculous number of cultured left feet (2 x Silvas, Sane, Mahrez, Mendy).

A 2-2 draw for Spurs at PSV which leaves them staring at an early exit ....

  • Dreadful news for Leicester City. The owner's helicopter has crashed in a car park outside the club's ground shortly after taking off following a match.

Not sure how this will affect the club long term - he does seem to have been the ideal rich overseas owner. For a start, they won the title which is still an astounding achievement but he was also well liked by the fans.

City won the big game game away to Spurs which means that it is looking like a 2 horse race for the title (which is not to say Chelsea are out of it being still undefeated with 7 wins and 3 draws!)

And Mahrez dedicated his goal to Srivaddhanaprabha.

  • If the sign of a top team in the EPL is averaging 2 points or more per game and the sign of a bad team is averaging 1 point or less per game ...

There are currently 6 top teams and 8 bad teams in the EPL. Small statistical size but there has never been such a disparity - last season ended with 3 top teams and 5 bad teams.

  • @kiwipie shuddup 😞

  • Emery's English is slowly improving, like the team. His pressers are so funny to watch because of his accent.

  • Liverpool go to an in-form Arsenal, get a draw, and it feels like a loss. Seriously, Liverpool are unbeaten in the league through 11 games, have only conceded 5 times, and yet the gap to City feels like a chasm. 2 points, and a 13 better goal difference. City are turning the league in to a sprint.

  • Just for @dogmeat Fulham get the first managerial sacking in EPL and bring in ... the tinkerman who just happened to win the title 3 seasons ago. Great theatre once again .....

But Fulham are just amateurs compared to my Notts County who have just fired their 2nd manager of the season (Harry Kewell).

Wow! I didn't even know Harry was in management.

As soon as I saw the Fulham announcement, I thought of Dogmeat. Funny how the fern family works

There are some seriously crazy odds at the TAB for everyone except City to win the EPL
    Liverpool $4.50
    Chelsea $18.00 (!)
    Spurs $31.00 (!!)
    Arsenal $101.00 (!!!)

Almost worth putting some on all of those 4 just in case City blow up/have injury crisis/Pep resigns etc. $18 for unbeaten Chelsea who won the title the season before last is just incredible.

  • Get your money on Fulham now 5000/1.Ranieri has form. C'mon Tinkerman.

When I heard the news I echoed the Lineker text "Ranieri? Really?"

I think every Fulham fan is very sad it didn't work out for Jokanavic. He took us on a fabulous ride the last two years with Fulham lording it in the Championship and playing with a real swagger.

I was hoping we'd give him longer right up until he lots the plot and started publically blaming all and sundry.

Hopefully we get the good Tinkerman - for a while at least. Fulham still have a decent squad. A different voice in the dressing room will hopefully reap immediate rewards

Given Fulham were bumbling along in 16th in November 2017 before surging to promotion, seems like exactly the wrong time to sack this manager. However Ranieri should be canny enough to build Fulham's team the same way as Leicester's. Get enough burly hod carriers to do the defensive donkey work so that the stars they have (and Fulham have some outstanding players) can focus on being stars.

  • 12 games in. Three teams undefeated. All Liverpool need to do is remember how to score lots of goals.

  • The best own goal you'll see in a long time by Bournemouth today.
