Auckland vs. North Harbour - The Battle of the Bridge
-
TAB odds:
1 Auckland 1.37
2 North Harbour 3.05
3 Draw 26.00 -
Some good match-ups in this game, and plenty of competition for Blues spots.
A few to watch out for:
Gatland vs. Plummer
Stevenson vs. Trainor
Li vs. Nanai
Faiane vs. Groundwater
Olmsted vs. Preston
Hunt vs. Papali'i
Mafileo vs. Prattley
Abel vs. ParsonsRenata and Mafileo are both playing pretty well at the moment. Wonder if both will be picked up by the Blues at tighthead?
-
This should be a cracking game.
Two attacking teams.
Auckland getting pumped 57-10 in this fixture last year.
Hopefully the weather holds and a decent crowd rolls in.

This was such a painful result. Hope that is very fresh in the players memory.

I'm going, taking my boy, a mate and his two lads as well. So there's 5 at least; should double the crowd from last year

Apparently Auckland Rugby have a promo this weekend where certain junior club players in either Auckland or North Harbour Union can attend free. Not sure of the exact details but something like that.
-
@tim Ruru vs Hall might be the biggest matchup in deciding who wins this game.

And if Hall, could get him an AB callup

-
@african-monkey yeah. Bugger.
Still, best the kids learn to get their dreams smashed early in life

Was at that game, in full nightclub flash harry gear after being out drinking all night with no sleep. Was a great crowd, and we stuck around and got to drink with some of the players.
Saw Martin Henderson do the Wayne's World "We are not worthy" to Frank Bunce.

Fukofuka this season has gone from starter to not even in the 23.
-
@kiwimurph I am really surprised with Fokofuka being rated so highly given that he keeps getting selected for Auckland and has even picked up super rugby contracts with the Saders, but he has never really been able to nail a starting spot..
I spoke to a coach who has been involved at under 19 and Developed level and this bloke is a very good coach who has won a Gallagher Sheild and his opinion and the opinion of several other coaches Leon does not possess an all round game to scucceed at the top level,in his opinion Nico Costa would have been a much better selection, highly energetic and makes very good decisions and has a very good high kick game but somebody obviously rates him. -

I've been surprised that he hasn't got many starts for Southland.
Ruru has improved. Yet another player that looks completely different away from Umaga's Blues. Liaina looks useful too.. good to see form getting rewarded.
-
@duluth Costa looked really energetic playing for Southland, not shy to have crack..really looking forward to the battle of the bridge tomorrow,it’s the first time I can truly say that in a very long time.
Was at harbour last year when we were well beaten, not a good experience.! -
@steven-harris we're going to smash them this year! Bring it on.
...cos I'm not nervous at all...

Bold players are the ones who also played last years match (Nee-Nee played this game too but has swapped sides of the bridge)
4 Aucklanders and 13 Harbours players
Injuries account for a lot of the differences. However a lot of the fringe Auckland players got cleared out in the last year
-
Hunt Vs Papali'i is the battle I'm looking forward to. A place on the All Blacks EOYT is up from grabs.
-
I’m sure Hunt will tour. I think it’s worth making room for Papalii too.. it’s a big squad
-
Both will be in the 51 but I suspect only one of them will be in the official 32 who go to Europe.
Hunt has more experience, but Papali'i looks the better long term prospect.
-
@duluth Lentjes was very good for Otago when he came on,superb over the ball,my choice would Papalii,I just think he is way more physical than Hunt or Lentjes.
-
All Harbour so far.
They look very up for this.
-
Auckland get some ball down the right end of the field and score.

Great to lead after having the ball for about three minutes out of twenty
-
Akira straight through Hunt and Auckland score again. Papali'i has started strongly.
-
Future AB 8 to future AB 7, try.
Hunt not doing himself any favors.
-
Auckland midfield really good today.
-
Stevenson has been good. Unfortunately Scotty Stevenson said at the start of the game that "his Super Rugby future is secure down the motorway".
-
Excellent.
-
Prattley is an idiot. But we knew that.
-
Cripes that was not good from Stevenson!
-
@kiwimurph Yep, followed my praise with a shocking play.
-
Can't say I'm overly impressed with Dillon Hunt. Looks journeyman level at best.
-
Abel gives away the penalty then misses the tackle. Not a great few minutes.
Yeah Hunt not having much impact - looks small out there.
