Brodie to get some game time before England. Although I would have gone with ALB and Goodhue but they don't see it that way.
-
Coles was shite against Auckland, so not surprised to see him omitted. Needs a lot of time before he's back at this level.
Aaron Smith was really bad against SA, so good to see him gone.
Ben Smith doesn't look like he can play 15 any more.
Scott Barrett is OK against a team like Australia. That's his level.
-
@hooroo Goodhue has glandular fever doesn't he?
-
@kiwimurph Yes, not with the squad.
-
The big Q
When Mo’unga comes on
a) Barrett to FB?
b) Barrett to the bench? -
(Goodhue) Going straight to England.
Team seems pretty fast, poor tiring Ozzies having to get BBBR some time in the second half! How much rugby has laulala had?
-
They said BBBR wouldn't be ready for this test so I assume he'll now get some time off the bench to avoid playing against Japan.
A big decision to put Nepo on the bench too.
-
Replacement kicker from the start of the match, too
-
@taniwharugby said in AB EOYT 2018:
Great to see Nepo Laulala, Big Joe Moody and Matt Todd back.
Matt Todd lost out to Ardie on the 2 foot height difference.

A NATIONAL FUCKIN' DISGRACE NO LESS

I completely disagree and think he has been excellent at 15 this year and a bit ordinary on the wing.
In saying that, I may be getting his good games mixed up but to me he is still our number one fullback
-
@hooroo Yep, not sure where this myth of him not being a good 15 anymore sprung up from.

Looks fast except the midfield.
Shit midfield, are we just going to keep picking them hoping like hell they come good, but rely on ALB to come on and sort it all out? Shit at 10 as well. I wonder if Dmac starting negates his most obvious strength?
Ofa T is a bit of a loss late in the game.
Matt Todd is a bloody lucky boy.
-
The right team to try Dmac at FB, and a selection i hope will be successful.
If he/we can handle Folau, he's probably good enough against anyone.
-
@gt12 Folau is likely to be playing 13.
-
Does the naming of this team give us any indication of who will be on the early flight to Heathrow?
Maybe only Ofa and Pat T will be in the mix but Naholo is now likely to start vs Japan.
-
Good looking team, but agree with @mariner4life the midfield is slow - chuck Goodhue and ALB in there (I know Goodhue is ill) and it has a much better look to it.
Hoping DMac comes into first receiver a bit to allow Beauden to play a bit wider, particularly in the 2nd 40 when it opens up a bit.
-
@bovidae The 22 on the early flight to Heathrow will pretty much be this 23 with someone individual staying, injuries aside.
Probably mo'unga so he can start vs Japan
Edit unless goodhue counts as one of the 22, in which case a midfielder will have to stay too. One of SBW or Crotty will be crocked so it'll be one of them

Well, aren't you the bloody optimist.
-
@machpants With Laumape and Proctor along with JB and Havili they should have enough midfield cover. ALB might draw the short straw.
-
Yeah but they need some experience vs Japan, and the coaches mentioned wanting to see SBW-Goodhue combo. Crotty to stay for experience and ALB go as better bench option? Who knows, the midfield is a mess
-
@machpants spoke to Jack Goodhue on Saturday, still looks ill to me..
-
Yeah glandular fever can knock you back for ages, saps your energy, not ideal for pro athletes! Really he should be starting 13 for RWC, but he needs to get more game time!
-
@steven-harris your have to think the AB drs wont let him play if he isn't right.
Expect he won't be able to do much fitness stuff either, so maybe a role off the bench v England?
The coaches might wanna see him and SBW in the mid field, I think most fans would wanna see ALB-Goodhue.
-
@tim so Folau thinks his league experience will help his defence...12/13 are bloody tough positions defensively, and with Beale alongside him, potential for some big holes
-
And in a huuuuuge surprise, 24 players named...
Seriously, if we don't murder that team by 25 we have spent the week in Roppongi
With Folau at centre i definitely think we have missed a trick with our midfield. It's not one we need to run over, we just need their midfielders to continuously make defensive decisions. Lots of out-the-back plays to blind wingers and fullbacks?
-
1 Scott Sio (51 Tests), 2. Folau Faingaa (5 Tests), 3. Allan Alaalatoa (29 Tests), 4. Izack Rodda (13 Tests), 5. Rob Simmons (90 Tests), 6. Ned Hanigan (17 Tests), 7. Michael Hooper (c) (87 Tests), 8. David Pocock (74 Tests)
9 Will Genia (96 Tests), 10. Bernard Foley (64 Tests), 11. Marika Koroibete (17 Tests), 12. Kurtley Beale (80 Tests), 13. Israel Folau (69 Tests), 14. Sefa Naivalu (7 Tests), 15. Dane Haylett-Petty (27 Tests)Reserves
16 Tolu Latu (9 Tests), 17. Sekope Kepu (99 Tests), 18. Taniela Tupou (8 Tests), 19. Rory Arnold (18 Tests), 20. Jack Dempsey (6 Tests), 21. Pete Samu (7 Tests), 22. Nick Phipps (69 Tests), 23. Samu Kerevi (21 Tests), 24. Tom Banks (3 Tests)One of Pete Samu, Rory Arnold, Tom Banks, Dempsey or Kerevi will be omitted from the 24-man bench.
-
Can someone explain the 24 players thing to me? Is one of them bracketed or something?
Edit: Jumped the gun and didn't read the article. Got it now.
-
Glandular fever is debilitating, had it in my late teens. Took about six months to get over, could still do stuff, just got really tired.
Ruined my All Black career.

me too! got it at uni, couldn't stay awake. kept playing rugby for a while, was told that was a very stupid idea.
ruined my AB career...
-
@yeetyaah Cheika almost always names 24 players with one to be excluded, cos he's a knob and has no selectorial ability at all and the yes men that surround him give him no help.

Its a pity gesture.
ABs by 40.
-
From the article: "Allan Alaalatoa has been promoted to starting loosehead"
- Allan Alaalatoa (29 Tests)
even the fucking domesticated RA journalist has no fucking idea about the front row.
-
@mariner4life same for me, except instead of glandular fever, it was chicks and beer...

yea well, those too (except chicks, i didn't get those)
Being small, slow, and generally hopeless didn't help much either if i am honest
