@stargazer No Finn Russell and no Sean Maitland. Are Scotland only picking Scottish-based players?
-
@sparky This test falls outside the World Rugby’s designated international window, so that may be the reason.
-
I quite like Alex Dunbar's play when on form. He can be really good.

Considering our injuries and unavailability (outside the test window) that's a pretty handy team.
Will be interesting to see if Lydiate is still relevant. And effective.
Great to see Anscombe getting a chance at 10.
Even better to see Jarrod Evans on the bench to complement / take over from an ineffective Anscombe.
We should have too much for Scotland, but when it comes to the Autumn we're notoriously slow starters.
Hopefully us by 9-13 with plenty of tries.
-
That's a strong Wales team. 10 will be the interesting one to watch. I've never been too sold on Anscombe and Evans I don't know anything of. Is Patchell injured?
-
@catogrande Patchell is in the squad for the November tests, so I assume he's not injured.

Stood down to recover from concussion.
Will feature in subsequent tests, as will Biggar.
Evans has been the Blues 10 the past two seasons usurping Shingler and forcing Anscombe to 15.
Beautifully balanced runner with ball in two hands, deceptively quick. Time on the ball.
Reminds me of Iestyn Harris at his best in League.

Naaa the Scots are doing this one for Doddie Weir. No chance. Scotland by 20.
I think it was about this time last year I got kicked out of a Scottish Rugby Facebook group ( again ) for having a laugh at the name Fagerson ( FAGerson). An admin messaged me saying they had close to 50 complaints about my juvenile and homophobic behaviour.
Retorting and calling him a snowflake with no sense of humour did nothing to help my cause unfortunately.

There is an horrific story about a photographer being kicked off the Torbay facebook page on the absolute crap thread. I warn you that it is quite disturbing.

I warned you - It is not for the faint hearted.

@machpants The link works, and yes. Terrible stuff. Hard to get over.
I should probably get this back on track before a ban gets mentioned.
So Anscombe - "I think he's the greatest, but my dad says he don't work hard enough on defense." Flying high week reference.
-
Most important part of this test is the right dints at the RWU and SRU agreed to actually donate towards the cause they used to advertise the fixture. A few of my mates overseas purchased tickets thinking that was always the case. As a matter of principle they were going to boycott the game of it didn't change

Yes shit form, which thankfully has been rectified.

Pleased that the Scots and Welsh officialdom are giving money to Doddie Weir's charity. I hope they give generously:
-
Congratulations Sparky, first time I have heard the words Scotland and generously used in the same sentence.

That is great news. Always one of my favourite players and was genuinely good in some of those shit teams of the 1990s. Awesome seeing him interviewed after the 95 quarter final where he scored two tries against the ABs. You could tell he was thrilled. Apparently he is a bit of a legend on the aftermatch speaking circuit too. Anyone who can rock suits like this is a legend in my eyes. Hope the big fella is doing ok.
-
A gentleman and a leg end.
Great pre-match interview.
Wales last won it's opening Autumn international in 2002 😱 against Romania 😱
Here we go 🎊
-
Quality is pretty dire so far. Stephen Jones will love it.
Young Hastings playing like a drunk DMac.
-
Wales slowly getting into their groove
-
Third penalty for Halfpenny
Wales 9 - 0 Scotland
Wales looking fitter and faster
-
Sloppy play from Wales gives Scotland field position and a penalty.
Wales 9 - 3 Scotland
-
That's more like it.
The fancy passing and offloading has finally created space and George North too strong and quick breaks tackles and goes over for the try.
Wales 14 - 3 Scotland
-
Great catch and drive from Scotland for the try.
Wales 14 - 10 Scotland
-
And that's the half.
Typical 6N dogfight where neither team wants to lose.
-

If they stopped running AT each other it might be less of a scrap
-
Scotland finally realised that the chip through or over the top is the way to combat the Welsh defensive line speed
-
Top drawer backline move and handoff from J Davies to go over for the try.
Wales 21 - 10 Scotland
-
Wales pull away again. Scotland are so frustrating to watch.
The opposition can just wait until they run out of ideas then strike back -
Anscombe hasn't done much wrong but would love Jarrod Evans to get a run
-
Gareth Anscombe doing his bit for Kiwi Taffs. He was First Five for the NZ Under 20 team in 2011. Beauden Barrett played at fullback in that team
-
Penalty. Double movement
-
Ref having a good match
