Leaving Neverland is on Ch4 in UK tonight and tomorrow in two parts. Not sure I could watch due to its nature but its getting a lot of publicity here at the moment. Are radio stations in NZ Aus, elsewhere playing his music still or stopped like UK??
-
Will just leave this here. Comments about them still playing Chris Brown and R Kelly are pretty amusing....
-
that's ignorant. you're being ignorant

it's funny, everyone is so quick to condemn R Kelly, Chris Brown and most of all Gary Glitter, quite probably cos none of their music is a patch on Jackos who has done some of the best fucken pop music in history.
Plus is seen as a bit of a tragic figure cos of his upbringing and weirdness.
Was he an extremely eccentric guy who enjoyed the company of kids or was he a legitimate paedophile?
I honestly don't know.

The Boondocks episode on the Trial of Robert Kelly is funny as fuck

Look, people don't like to find out that figures they have put a lot of stock in may not be as pure as our idealistic view of them. George Pell in Australia is another good example.
People will perform mental gymnastics in order to avoid admitting their hero is a creep. And Michael Jackson is a loooot of people's hero.
Human nature is a funny thing.

Exactly.
Very easy to believe Gary Glitter was guilty....( ha posting this for a second time )
l

He seemed perfectly normal until the album Bad and then it all went downhill.

They will not play Michael Jackson...then advises that he wasn't featured their playlist anyway.
Stunning and Brave. Guess this means other radio stations that don't go public must in-fact support child molestation..

@Rembrandt what's next? No Roman Polanski films on TVNZ (even though they don't play them)?
This really could be a very good approach marketing wise. Your local synagogue could point out they don't have George Pell giving sermons.

The Rock FM have chosen not to play R Kelly songs

The think with MJ it's not so cut and dried because the guy was so astonishingly weird. He took a chimp as his date to an award ceremony ffs.

Also what's this I hear about him being chemically castrated to keep his singing voice? Didn't his doctor verify that?
If that's true that'll do some serious mental damage.
....then again think of how much distractionless work you could get done

Yeah was that true? Sounds weird but it's MJ. That's why the question is up in the air. The guy was a farking alien.

They are stopping the play of his music which is just stupid.
-
It’s not his fault he knew sexy kids.
-
-
the stance to not play his music is pathetic, I know there has always been the suspicions, but he was cleared in a court of law, one of the guys now claiming the abuse defended him in the case.
Can they re-open the case to try him posthumously?
-
It's also a slipperly slope. John Lennon beat his first wife, should we can The Beatles too? Others have already mentioned R Kelly and Chris Brown.
Some artists are scumbags. We have mechanisms in place to deal with that (courts, etc). This is consequence free virtual signalling, super brave to take a stand against a dead guy. How about targetting the guy who still is fucking kids (and peeing on them) and is still alive?

Who is doing that???? I'm not a fan of the death penalty but I am of brutal torture for those types!

Re: music, not a huge fan but I like some of it seems silly to stop and these allegations have been made before. Or is this a royalties thing-do relatives get the royalties after the death of an artist and no one wants to line his pockets so to speak because of accusations?
This whole thing is very messy that's for sure.

In Gary Glitters case he’s using that money to buy child prostitues in Asia so not playing his music would be a good idea.

That's very "strong" of you but if I want to listen to some music, like MJ, I will happily pay for it.

Absolutely. He's a bit before my time so not sure I know any of his songs anyway but had a female manager in my teens who was the double of him, creeped us all out 😬
-
@taniwharugby @kirwan Jerry Lee Lewis was another. Married his 13 year old cousin. Was a weirdo perv but his music is still playing.

His 1973 hit, Do you wanna touch me, was a little creepy, even for 1973. Went something like “Do you wanna touch me? Here? There? Where?”.
Yuck.
-
Musician gets unpopular. His songs stop getting played on radio.
But yes, the press statement is a bit silly
The removal of music from stores is more interesting which is starting to happen with R Kelly
As for other musicians with young tastes. It's always interesting to check how 'cool' they are and then check the public reaction. Gary Glitter was hounded when it was still just rumours. Jimmy Page doesn't get much heat for the way he picked up a 14 year old and then went on to 'date' for the next year. Then there's Bowie..
