Chiefs 2020

@Bovidae I agree but the Chiefs have a stacked midfield

We do? ALB, Tupaea and ??? I don't want to see Wainui at centre and Leger is a 10/12 who has had minimal gametime. Sullivan hasn't even played for the Chiefs this season. You need depth to cover for injuries.

Do you think Thompson might be moving with your BOP rumour?

and coz Alex is from CHCH I'm hoping the Poosaders don't make a play for him as their midfield stocks are low.

The Crusaders favour the Goodhue-Ennor combo, and Nankivell's chances of playing would be dependent on displacing Ennor and Goodhue moving back to centre.

  • @Bovidae well I mean we did with ALB, Nankivell and Manu but he's gone now. I'd be okay with Wainui moving to centre if he needed to. I couldn't stop raving about Tupaea in the previous 2 M10 cups but he hasn't done much in super just yet. Sullivan I've never been huge on but he never gets to play in super really.

Really? I think that he and ALB play well off each other, and now that's settled in to super Rugby, I'd really like to see what he can do in the midfield - our game breakers are all three quarters, so having Wainui on the wing doesn't help much.

  • @Yeetyaah I want to see (12) Tupaea - (13) Sullivan for Waikato this season. Sullivan seems to be used more as a winger but I remember how good they looked together in that game in Whangarei in 2018.

@gt12 I understand your point but Wainui doesn't even play regularly in the midfield for Taranaki. His distribution would need to improve. It is a possibility in the future with the young wingers.

  • @Bovidae is Sweeney playing again this season? The only reason he started was coz he was captain.

  • @Yeetyaah I don't know about Waikato. He is playing club rugby.

Now that Sweeney has brought up his 100 games it is time to move on with the future.

This years NPC doesn't seem to be a look to the future NPC, it seems to be an all in NPC.

  • @Nepia ALB and Tupaea in the midfield will do just fine. 🙂

  • @Bones I don't think he should resign, he should be held accountable to a point but the Chiefs have a lot of injuries particularly in the forwards and the scrum has been suffering. Back line defence hasn't been great, it just looks like Cooper era but worse. Hopefully the get the wooden spoon and it causes the coaches to take a hard look at themselves. The problem there is that Gats isn't around next year. Idk asking for a coach to resign is a bit extreme.

  • @Bones tough headline. Of course some muppets on Twitter think he should resign.

HE's got a team to a decent level, but this is a really tough competition. IF they are playing SA and AUS sides, they aren't losing that many games in a row. A few bounces/refs calls and their season is 4-2 not 0-6. Blues are the same - we could be 2-4 easily (or even 5-1 or 6-0). That's rugby in this incredible competition.

  • Be awesome to see clayton have a crack next year as coach. Hope he gets to put his twist to the team

Even better, if you check their profiles - there is only one Chiefs supporter in there and they aren't saying anything about Gats.

Personally, I think he is a good coach, but picked shitty assistants, in particular whoever runs the defense should be down the road. Beyond that, the Chiefs have been well fucked with injuries for a couple of years now and I'd go over every aspect of the program to see if there was any chance that the coaching, preparation, recovery was contributing to that problem continuing.

  • @gt12 Spot on!

Hahaha, a decimated squad and narrowly losing games has people throwing their toys out of the cot. That's before we raise the spectre that they've been robbed by contentious decisions.

Making a story based on some hysterical tweets. 👎

    modern journalism 101

  • @Bovidae is it the other Boshier?

  • @Tim Is anyone giving them a free pass, or is Rugbypass busy fingering their own arsehole again?

  • An article by Hamish Bidwell describes the wonderful Chief’s career of Aaron Cruden. He goes on to praise the work of Dave Rennie and Wayne Smith in the victorious 2012/13 team.,and rightly so.However it is surprising he does not mention the influential forwards coach ,who brought Brodie Retallick,Ben Tameifuna,Kane Thompson,Andrew Horrell, and Mahonri Schwalger to the Chiefs. The work he put into his pack is legendary. It is probably no coincidence that the Blues’ forward pack is now benefitting from his presence, one TJ Coventry.

  • @trodthesod it's not surprising when you realise it's Hamish Bidwell. Awful journo.

our successful period was built on "limited" players playing well above themselves. Add in a couple of game-changers like Retallick and SBW, and we were a force.

  • “And the Blues were still regarded as a team who gave up when things got hard “ Hamish Bidwell opines. This sort of criticism the Blues have endured for yonks .In sport nothing remains the same!

  • @Tim So why doesn't Gatland just bugger off to the NH already. Seriously, he is more interested in doing podcasts for Will Greenwood about the Lions tour, - plus talking to former England head coach Stuart Lancaster - than he is in fixing the ailing and losing culture in the Chiefs. Current coaches seem incapable of putting together a viable, winning gameplan.
Sod awrf I say, and take your stale and mouldy assistants with you.

Just think about it. Hammer conveniently announces he is leaving the Highlanders, the Blues conveniently improve to provide a viable alternative to Chiefs fans who want to jump ship and the wonder coach conveniently fails then takes a year off. Even BBBR decided to take a year off to smooth the transition out.

    firstly, think about my balls

secondly, our forwards are already shit, they don't need to get worse.

thirdly, refer to my gif above

  • The burn for Gatland is that even Stop, Hammer Time couldn't have achieved a worse win-loss record in Super Rugby Aotearoa.

Gatland didn't pick his assistants, they were inherited from Cooper. I don't expect all will survive after this season and CEO Michael Collins was non-committal when asked earlier in the year if they had contracts beyond 2020. Barnes (forwards) would be the most at risk.

in particular whoever runs the defense should be down the road.

    That's your man Matson.

Stormy McLeod is my man. He' s pretty shitty defensive coach too but.
