Ranfurly Shield

@Stargazer Interesting that the try scorer seems to have been subbed off to start his aftermatch celebrations right after his moment of glory. Pleased to see that his replacement is an even more traditionally built prop, he is a big man!

I like it that Otago has decided to play this RS match in an away game in Timaru, instead of Dunners.
That's pretty normal for pre-season lower level Shield Challenges isn't it?
-
@Hooroo One game, usually, although - like the game v Thames Valley, the home games are sometimes played outside the province's main centre (Wanaka instead of Dunedin).
Edit:
For example, Taranaki played its Heartland Ranfurly Shield games last year as two home games, but outside New Plymouth.
In Hawera against Whanganui and Tikorangi against Poverty Bay. -
FT: Otago 49 - 14 North Otago
Only watched the 2nd half, but it was a good game to watch. Not bad at all from the amateurs from North Otago. Always a great opportunity for the small Heartland provinces to take on the big brothers.
Also officated well. Rebecca Mahoney is progressing well as a ref; gradually taking on bigger games. She'll be our own Amy Perrett (Aussie ref, first female SR referee).

I won't bother starting a new thread.

Part 3:
I wasn't aware of some of these controversies.

@mikedogz interesting but a bit whingy
By bit I assume you mean very.
I look forward to Richard doing a review of all 13 year eras of the Shield - he's going to be in for a shock.
I checked his Twitter, he's a Canes fan and he's complaining about how his province is treated. Irony.

No shot for Northland, it's an NZR conspiracy!
And Manuwatu, but who cares about that
Manawatu are in there
-
@delicatessen where?
-
@Kiwiwomble They play CM.

Had to come back and look at this as I couldn't remember the draw implications for Wellington.
Waikato in with a fine chance on Saturday with a double incentive of likely topping the pool. Wellington with the chance to lock the Shield in the cupboard and concentrate on the NPC.
Have Otago given them the wake up call they need? Can Wellington avoid getting on the shortest Shield reign list again?

@Crucial Wellington will also likely top the pool if they win on Saturday so it’s a massive game to win. Forecast for Saturday is that it will be bucketing down.
Really. OK looked up the games remaining and they could do. Wellington are 2nd 3 points behind Waikato. BOP is third with a game in hand 1 point behind Wellington. HB is three points behind Wellington. So if wellington win both games and stop Waikato getting a bonus point they could do it if other results go their way
Wellington play Waikato and CM (away)
Waikato play Wellington and BOP (home)
BOP play HB (H), Northland (H) and Waikato (away)
HB play BOP (away) and Tasman (H)If Wellington stay injury free (esp Numia) and they beat Waikato then they may (I never get my hopes up with Wellington) do it. Amazing after some dreadful team performances after the first three games

@Stargazer LOL Yep
anyone seen updated versions of this? seemed like a great idea when they did it and updating it would have helped build some hype

Games at 4.35. Forecast is for rain and southerlies. Not the best although forecasts are often wrong. Even for the next day.

And exactly the same time as the Black Ferns test against Japan (curtain-raiser to the Bledisloe Cup game). You would think that even a hastily arranged women's test wouldn't have to clash with a NPC game.
