Ashes 2019

Can anyone show me an example of a classy boozy team celebration?

    Would anyone want one?

You've won in trying circumstances. Doing dumb shit and waking up wishing you were dead is all part of the...fun...

  • @Donsteppa said in Ashes 2019:

@Snowy Good on them - looks like they had a lot of (mostly) good natured fun, enjoyed a huge moment for the first time since '01, and fired a few shots back at the English crowd who've been at them for months.

After the English taking a slash outside off-stump on the pitch at the Oval that time, The Sun is in a glass house as usual.

I think the media forget how the aussie team used to act DURING the games. They won, they deserve to enjoy the spoils.

  • Classic test match on Fox Sports. Fuck Daryl Hair was a blatant cheat.

His umpiring is one of the key reasons why I am so strongly in favour of DRS.

  • His wikipedia page just reads of controversy after controversy.

Although I've always backed him for no-balling Muralitharan.

  • After watching Malinga the other night, I personally think they only teach them how to chuck them in Sri Lanka.

  • Looks like Warner survives in the team list, I wonder if this run will extend tonight:

  • Anyone told nick the Aussie about Travis Head's replacement in the 11?....😏

He's still passed out on the floor

  • If the answer was Mitchell Marsh, I wonder what the question was.

Faced with a choice between the 2, I'd shout "Give me Head" every time ....

    Must. Not. Succumb.

    There are no words

  • That was really poor from Denly

  • Both sides have had crappy opening partnerships

Skimming through the scorecards this appears to be Englands best opening stand of the series

    22
    19
    0
    9
    10
    15
    10
    0
    27

Root might as well be opening

  • @Duluth believe that was the best opening partnership for either side this series?

  • @NTA said in Ashes 2019:

    Wow.. that's terrible

As bad as some of the batting has been, Broad has had a great series. I thought he bowled an incredible spell for no reward when Smith was getting his double

In my best Oprah voice, “Everyone gets an Ashes”

  • Siddle and Marsh scything through the English top order after winning the toss...

  • Starc/Pattinson would have caught that

  • Two simple catches put down and Siddle not bowling well.

Australia are well below their previous standards in the field

  • OH! Nick!!!....?

  • @dogmeat don't. Fucking. Say. It.

Look in fairness, a couple of those wickets were good bowling but a couple of them were utter pies that an idiot decided to have a hoist at.

He was bowling well. Good pace and for some reason he was getting considerably more swing than any of the others

Siddle isn't much of a swing bowler and the other two have been mainly seam. I saw a couple of highlight balls from Hazlewood where it moves a bit.

Marsh just had it going I guess - sometimes happens with those guys in the 130s that they can swing it better than faster bowlers

  • @NTA said in Ashes 2019:

I saw the whole day (had it on my second screen at work). Other bowlers got some swing but nothing like Marsh.

Around tea they had a stat showing how much each bowler was swinging it. Marsh was 3x the next best bowler

He bowled well. Who knows if he can back it up or if he can get runs.. but he deserves credit for yesterday

  • @Duluth said in Ashes 2019:

His quote in the presser - which showed a remarkable amount of self-awareness - was something like:

"I think every cricket fan in Australia hates me (laughs) but they're passionate, and I haven't been able to nail down a spot with consistent performances"

So I'll give him credit for that as well.

He's trying to let his cricket do the talking. Smart

  • Been up the snow with limited reception.

Seems we're fucked, and Paine made a couple of bowlers, but mostly due to shit fielding.

  • Good batting by Denly, Stokes and Buttler. Decent track and weather. Some sloppy fielding from the team that already has the tiny trophy safely tucked away and some niggly banter suggesting that the Aussies have one foot on the plane after 9 seemingly continuous months of top flight cricket.

Nice to have someone worse at drs reviews than ou Kane. Despite all the great work Paine has done, his best keeping days are in the past. He still has a wonderful technique but his accuracy from his prime is missing. But, he's an Ashes retaining captain, so well done him.

Ordinarily it's shut the gate on anything but a pom win, 380 odd lead, but that all goes out the window with that bloody Steven Smith...

  • Watched highlights. Fuck that catch from Smith was a screamer - almost makes up for the pie he dropped earlier.

We're going to lose by a good 200 runs here.

  • England all out for 329. Australia need 399 to win. Not impossible if Warner or Smith getting going, but a tough challenge at the end of a long tour

  • All over. England win the Oval test by 135 runs. 2-2. Series drawn but Australia holds onto the little Urn.

Australia were the better team across the series in most respects, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have been superb. Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon and Matthew Wade have had stand-out moments too. But the Aussies made life difficult for themselves by selecting two opening batsmen who have performed dreadfully.

If Stuart Broad buys a baby rabbit for his kids, he should call it "Warner" because David Warner has been his bunny all series.

  • No boundary countback to save them this time.

  • For the series

Oz made 2771 runs and lost 87 wickets
Eng made 2586 runs and lost 94 wickets

  • @ACT-Crusader said in Ashes 2019:

The drawn series flatters England slightly imho. The aussies should have ended it in the 3rd test but for Stokes' heroics and a series of self inflicted blunders

  • Warner and Siddle were curious selections for the final test. Notwithstanding that Warner will probably slog 200 against us on a dead Australian pitch with a Kookaburra ball later in the year, Nathan Lyon might as well have opened the batting against Stuart Broad for all the worth Warner was.

  • I thought I heard David Gower say the series was not good for openers, apart from Burns?

He was the only century maker I believe?

Only one opening partnership out of 10 made it to 50?

If the fella with the saffa/french surname had been batting in place of Khawaja it probably wouldn't have been close

Who cares about wickets lost? As a cricketing purist I'd like to see a breakdown of who hit the most boundaries.
