Who have we got who can come in and play Lock for the ABs in the Rugby World Cup if the Great Man is unavailable?

Given he is playing Rugby in Japan for the next two years, that is probably the last we will see of Brodie in the Black Jersey for a long time. Possibly he will never play for the ABs again.

Just velcro his arm around Whitelock for the scrums. Would still be better than the daylight back to lock #3.

I try to be positive in life, but we are pretty fouked without him.

I don't really pray, but I am am thinking a lot about some bloke down south getting healthy really soon.

S Barrett is basically ready to go isn't he? Maybe 1 or 2 weeks more at most.

Would like to see the replay of the Retallick injury.

That's why I want to see a replay. Although I'm not holding my breathe on any suspension.

If he was 3 inches taller he would be hitting all the marks. Still would much rather him than Fifita. Bigger work rate, better in tight. Doesn't have the pace of Fifita though...

The BBBR injury was probably fine as far as foul play was concerned. I'm just pissed off that he might not make the RWC.

    Brodie can not be replaced

S Barrett is a good player but is nowhere near as good as Broide
Barrett is a good player who plays for great teams - Saders +ABs

Sad for Brodie Champion player Irreplaceable for ABs

Snyman entered that ruck from the side so even if you think the cleanout is fair it should have been a penalty to the ABs.

Hopefully we get some good news on BBBR.

    @Bovidae

At worst Synman is guilty of coming in at the side But that happens dozens of times per game

Synman clearout is legal otherwise He uses his arms & contact is not made with head/neck area

Sadly it's just a tragic injury for a Champion player

2019 RWC will be much diminished without Damien Mackenzie + Brodie Retallick ๐Ÿ˜ข

I thought the same but it was OK on the replay. Arm was wrapped. Should have been a penalty for in the side though

Sam W and Scott B to be the starters. Patrick T off the bench. Read and Hemopo to be in the RWC squad as extra cover. Fifita to stay at home.

We really are screwed. Patty T is just not up to it and neither is Romano anymore. There really isn't a third lock option if we are being honest.

Not sure why the post above was deleted but has Romano been that bad recently? He's only 33 - not too old for a tight forward.

Thought I was being too negative. Will restore it now. Romano has really suffered from being the 4th choice lock at the Crusaders and not having enough game time at Super Rugby, but he's certainly not the player he used to be. Would probably still choose him over Patty T though who has never impressed at Test level.

Agree. It was marginal though and it wouldn't have been a surprise if a penalty was blown. Clear out was possibly in front of the player with the hindmost feet and debateable as to whether a bind was before/simultaneous the impact.
The unfortunate result is the reason those laws are in place.
I'm not having a grizzle about it though, it was just a shit outcome.

BBBR won't make first game, but depending on severity might be good to go for quarters. ๐Ÿคž

He came partially through the gate - but the usual interpretation applies, they have such a wide 'gate' these days it's not funny. Basically it's a strong cleanout, given how late in the ruck it was, and how big the ruck was, it looked dodgy, but as people say it happens multiple times a game.

DMac and BBBR are big losses for us at this cup. If we win from here, it's a 'thank god' moment, not an 'expected that' moment. Feels like the tales of 1991 (I wasn't following rugby at that stage in my life)

    Well said

    RG Synman clearout was dominant

Unfortunately he hit Brodie at an awkward angle for his arm and shoulder

Itโ€™ll be Barrett to start alongside Whitelock, unless of course they want to use Barrett at 6, (which Iโ€™m a fan of), in which case it should be Hemopo.

the ABs have had to do without Brodie quite a bit recently. He would be a big loss but they will have to find a way to cope and adjust if that is the case.

the qtr finals are 3 months away - if it is just a dislocation he might be a chance for those.

53 days to the opening game of the RWC. 7 1/2 weeks.

4 weeks of pool play until the quarters.

    2 weeks until the final.

It's close folks ๐Ÿ™‚ Strap in, going to be a fun ride on the way there. 1995 all over again perhaps?

they would have to be confident of a comeback date for him as you cant really carry him in a squad of 31 if he doesn't get to play.

we don't need him in the pool tbf.

    scotland aren't pushovers anymore!

lets see what the scan result is. He looked in a lot of trouble on the field after the incident so not too hopeful based on that.

why is it 1995 all over gain?

@DaGrubster Agreed, but honestly if we can't beat Scotland without BBBR, then we really don't deserve to win the Cup. The problem with picking BBBR and not playing him till the playoffs is the workload that Whitelock and Barrett will now have to carry. It really is a blow as it just doesn't effect lock selection, but potentially Barrett's move to blindside as well.
