Waikato vs Tasman
-
they had a chat with Dwayne on RS yesterday, were talking about some differences he saw in game between then and now...
-
My chat with Strawbridge today after Waikato training:
-
I think we're going to need Andrew Makalio to come back sooner rather than later.
I guess we have some cover for Liam Squire, but I'm somewhat wondering why they're not considering him as the lock cover - similarly to the way they used Frizell.
Shannon getting called up to the ABs is a major loss in firepower. Not many in this comp who could match his physicality - and that will be important against teams with lots of big munters aka Auckland.
-
@Chris-B Tasman will win this easily. Waikato can score points but leak them too (missing heaps of first-up tackles). Scrum is an issue with 3 LH props out injured. It would have been good to keep Coxon as he looks to be a spare part for Tasman.

@Bovidae I certainly hope so. I'd hate to think that you would beat Tasman and then lend credibility to that fucking shield by taking it.
I suspect Coxon is still out injured. Can't remember exactly what happened to him, but it looked pretty serious at the time. Otherwise, I think he'd be getting time ahead of Wyatt - building for the future.
Seems to be something about looseheads that attract injury. For us, Tim Perry's hardly played this year. Kane Hames is still out. Wyatt Crockett missed the first month. And Ryan Coxon.
Thank goodness for Sam "the Rock" Prattley, eh @Tim - always available if required!

Tasman approached Chris King a couple of weeks ago but he said no thanks. Also turned down Canterbury.

I'm sure he has his reasons, but it's a real shame that Jordan Taufua isn't playing for Samoa in the WC. He'd make a huge difference for them.
-
Discipline has been a major problem so far. Giving away penalties when we have the ball and when we don't. That last one by Lomax especially annoying because 20-15 playing into the wind would have almost been acceptable.
Backline defence looking a bit rattled - caught by pretty much the same play twice and then Tima letting a guy step back inside.
Taufua looking great though! Needs a few others to similarly lift their games.

Could Sione Havili push for a Crusaders spot next year?
-
@African-Monkey I think he'd be a good SR prospect.
