When do tickets go on sale?
Mrs Boo reckons we're going.
Will make sure we're there for the pool matches ... and see how flexible we can be during the knockouts ...
Collective thoughts on tours, touring parties, independent travel etc appreciated.
(Yes I'm deflecting, I don't want to dwell on the aftermath.)

Never mind that, when is the squad named?

If you can get tickets to the games you want to see through the ballot I would do the tour independently as you will have more flexibility to visit where you want between games. That is what my friends and I did in 2007, and it should be cheaper.
The TGV/train network is great to travel between cities, and you can organise your own accommodation.
Tours like Williment Travel will take a lot of the hassle away so it depends on what you want from the experience. I'll never forget seeing many from their tour group walking around Paris after the QF in their adidas tour kit looking like they wanted to be somewhere else. We all ended up at a bar watching the NPC final live.
It's much better to be incognito.

It was good to see us keeping our powder dry for this one last night. The pricks aren't going to know what hit them.

@Yeetyaah Thanks, I'll keep my phone handy just in case I get the call up.

@Godder @nzzp Reckon I could be up for that if you could stomach hanging about with a Saffer.
I know @Snowy is boycotting travelling to RWC games anymore, but I'm sure I can tempt him out of retirement if he feels his liver is strong enough for one last hurrah with me -

That's the problem, weeks in France with good (and cheap) wine my liver may well decide it is a final hurrah.
That and the fact that the ABs will lose if I go.It is tempting though. Hmmm.

He's an old school rugby dude, would be funny as shit to be on tour with. Also tempted to drag one or both boys along ... well, for festival rugby group stages. After that it's all pressure, pain and heartbreak -- kind of like working

Add another - I'll be over there the week before playing anyway.

World Rugby and the France 2023 Organising Committee have announced that the Rugby World Cup 2023 Draw will take place in Paris at Palais Brongniart on 14 December 2020. Acknowledging the global COVID-19 impact on international rugby in 2020, with some teams not playing this year, and to be fair to all qualified teams, the Rugby World Cup Board has decided that the World Rugby rankings as of 1 January 2020 will be used to determine the five bands. This represents the fairest scenario given it was the last time that all teams were able to play. The bands as of 1 January 2020 are: Band 1: South Africa, New Zealand, England, Wales Band 2: Ireland, Australia, France, Japan Band 3: Scotland, Argentina, Fiji, Italy Band 4: Oceania 1, Europe 1, Americas 1, Asia / Pacific 1 Band 5: Africa 1, Europe 2, Americas 2, Final Qualifier Winner

I still don't know why rugby needs to do this so far in advance when you look at when FIFA finalises pools and draws.
-
Those are the ranking from the end of last year, too. I'd fucking laugh if one pool had teams ranked first, second, and third in it at the time of the tournament. It's just about possible

Which one of Scotland, Argentina, Fiji, Italy - do you think is "just about possible" to get to 3rd in the world?
Has Jaguars4Real (or whatever that nutjob's name was) come back and hijacked your account? But yeah, I kinda get the sentiment. Although... in rugby, I've never understood the wailing and gnashing of teeth around this. In reality - there's less than 8 teams truly likely to win the thing... and they would only very, very rarely drop out of the top-8 rankings. Therefore - the most important thing, avoiding 3 genuine contenders in the same pool - is almost a given. 2011 was a massive anomaly.
-
@Kruse tongue was firmly in chek. But so ridiculous to base it off ranking from 3 years ago.

The Poms would like to mention (or probably forget) 2015.

Shit. I meant 2015.
That's it... that's the excuse... being sober Just. Doesn't. Work. To the fridge... -
So Wales, Australia & Fiji in one pool

Because unlike the FIFA WC in the RWC the schedule dictates the venues. With limitless demand Brazil can build a stadium in the middle of the jungle for 5 fixtures with unknown teams and have them all sell out immediately. Not even close for RWC they need to know the fixtures before they set the venues and schedule. No use having Georgia vs Kenya at Stade De France and ABs vs Wales in Pau.
Official tour groups are a big revenue source and if you are teeing up to go in 2023 then you are making the call in 2021.
-
@rotated I still don't believe WR needs to make these decisions 3 years before the tournament starts. If they are going to use rankings to assign teams to bands/groups at least make them relevant.

The draw will take place at 12:30 pm CET today at the Palais Brongniart in Paris.
Rugby World Cup France 2023 will be contested by 20 teams, of which 12 are directly qualified by virtue of a top-three place in their respective Rugby World Cup 2019 pools. These teams will be seeded based on World Rugby Men's Rankings as of 1 January, 2020 and placed into three bands of four teams (bands one, two and three). The remaining eight teams will come through the regional qualification process and will be allocated into bands four and five based on relative strength. Except for France (Band 2) which will be drawn first as host country, all teams in each band will be randomly drawn to determine the pools they go into, the first drawn being placed in Pool A, the second in Pool B, the third in Pool C and the fourth in Pool D. The first band to be drawn will be five, with the top four seeds in band one last. The match schedule, with date, location and time of all games will be announced towards the end of February 2021.
-
Holy fucken snoozefest. I'm fast losing interest...
-
@Bones so we get France in our pool and then I assume either Sth Africa or Ireland in quarters (if draw in Feb aligns with what they did for Japan 2019).
-
-
Drawn with Italy for the 7th time in 10 tournaments.
-
3rd straight RWC pool with Wales, Australia and Fiji.

Dream pool for English rugby scribes. Up against their two favourites.
-
So we know what the opening game is going to be ... Hosts versing the biggest draw cards ...
Or do they go hosts verse a guaranteed win (I've started the count down on the hilarious Foster post).
-
I think pool A Quarter Finals are vs Pool B. So NZ will need to beat France in pool play to avoid the Boks in the Quarters!
