AFL 2020

What a win. Two Adelaide teams in 6 days in Adelaide. Least the night wasn’t completely ruined!

As if 50% of that is a chalkenge

  • god, how bad was last night? Conditions were appalling. And Freo are shit.

I turned it off and watched Baseball

  • @ACT-Crusader said in AFL 2020:

It’s a little surreal seeing the ladder and the Saints are 3rd. We were outplayed by Collingwood but the pre-lockdown North game, and the Freo game we should never have lost.

It's such a topsy-turvy season, and at the moment no result would shock me. Adelaide probably should have won on the weekend, and North looked pretty good too.

I genuinely think the GF winner will be one of Brisbane or West Coast, and it will depend solely on where they play the finals. A large parochial home crowd will be such an advantage in a close season. Plus the season-long hub life will take it's toll on the Melbourne teams IMO.

AFL tipping is a bit of a nightmare. Teams are up one week, and then down the next. There is no consistency in form at all.

Whoever wins this season is going to earn it.

I can't wait for the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Vic teams when they say how disadvantaged they are by not getting to play finals in Vic

  • @barbarian Gerard Whateley said something funny last night, the West Coast Eagles will probably join the Clive Palmer High Court case you keep the WA border closed!

They are in a strong position.

  • I had a bet on them at $13 after they lost their third straight game in the hub. Feeling pretty good about that now.

I'm relatively new to following the AFL closely, and the media swings so wildly based off each week's results. A team has two bad games on the trot and they get a week of ex-players and hangers on calling for everyone to be fired/dropped.

It was GWS last week, Richmond are in that spot at the moment, same with Hawthorn. But they string a few wins together and they are in the 8, or in Richmond's case in the top 4. It's just empty talk to fill airtime.

  • And the roller coaster continues

Richmond absolutely hammer the Dogs, who had been going alright. It was one way traffic last night, and Dusty pretty much did what ever he wanted. The Dogs' defensive structure completely fell apart.

Big game tonight. If Melbourne play like they did last weekend they can beat Port, but this short turnaround might kill them.

I have an 8-leg same game multi on. It's multi madness over this run of games!

  • Melbourne were appalling last night. No effort, and just dominated by Port. It was veeeery ugly.

Port are bloody good though, they have some good players, and play a good style to watch.

  • @mariner4life I'm pleased I was out and didn't know it was on.

the writing was on the wall very early

  • i'd really love another win...just to keep away form the bottom but i dont thin the saints are going to give us one

  • @Kiwiwomble it's okay, no matter how much you suck, Adelaide are worse.

  • @mariner4life ...see thats the shit we'll just come out and disprove!

  • The Swans don't really suck though. They are fun to watch. Missing a bunch of their best players they are still going hard every week. Papley is a gun, Rampe and Mills are great, guys like Aliir, Blakey and Florent are developing well.

  • @barbarian of course and i know...its just been a bit rough to watch

It's frustrating to watch. Good to see Damien making the call to dump under-performing players. Thankfully despite the injury list, we can call from a pretty handy VFL squad.

Adelaide have an AFL team? Who knew?

Prestia , Edwards , caddy , houli , vlastun , Astbury, nankervous currently unavailable , but was good to get the skipper back. Had 10 players under 30 games .

Have some exciting young talent , some like balta are making a serious claim for a permanent spot .

Probably head into the game against the lions with a younger more inexperienced team , they are in great form And building nicely, I think the goal is to try and keep in touch with the ladder and hopefully make a late charge when back at full strength if it’s not too late .

  • Liiiiooooonnnnnsssss!!!!

  • Saints have turned it on in this final quarter.

  • Crazy season. I think any team that makes the 8 will fancy themselves a chance to win the flag. There is just no consistency week to week from anyone.

How good is Buckley making Eddie look like a loud-mouthed fool, again. And predictably Collingwood slumped again yesterday. Out of the 8 now.

  • @ACT-Crusader ...yeah...good for them

The great irony is Pies supporters are probably responsible:

  • yuck

  • teh guy on the left is definitely a Union official

  • How good is footy every night?

Also there are some shocking haircuts in the AFL this year

  • Port Adelaide are pretty bloody good. The Dogs had a real crack at them last night, and just couldn't get it done.

I think Charlie Dixon might be my favourite non-Lions player in the comp

  • Yeah he's great. Feel a bit for the Dogs, I think they're a top 8 team but in back-to-back games they have run into resurgent Richmond and a fired-up Port at home.

Richmond-Brisbane tonight will be a belter.

they don't use the ball well by foot, and they have no targets up front. The Port tall defenders picked them off at will last night.

Should be good tonight. I get the feeling we'll lose this. The Lions are playing a baby backline, so probably Dusty gets off the chain, and then it's lights out. And in games with high pressure, the goal kicking stats go through the floor.

I just hope it's a quality game with a decent score.

  • Richmond were scary good last week. But they have been pretty hot and cold so far, so no result would really shock me. At their best the Tigers win by 20, but who knows if they will deliver that.

  • Well this is going to expectation.

  • @mariner4life said in AFL 2020:

Another half to go. Lions need to be more accurate.

  • Quite an end to the half. Brisbane in it till then.

BTW, AFL is tailor-made for sub Saharan athletes. All the attributes in one package. Expecting to see many Patrick Viera types per team in a few years.

Or they could kick 7 behinds in the quarter

    3-15!!!!

We dominated that quarter and we're still a mile behind

  • The tigers will comfortably win the flag

We will not be a real contender until we rebuild the forward line

  • Comfortable win from about the same amount of scoring shots. It's one thing to have heaps of uncontested marks, quite another to score goals.

  • It’s rare to see two teams have the same scoring shots and one team loses by 40 points!

You can see the foundation is there for the Lions but will need some changes at half forward to capitalise on that transition of very good halfback and midfield play into more consistent forward play and scoreboard pressure.

Tigers looked very good though. Jack looked as comfortable as ever tonight and it’s been hard going for him since the return.

  • Was a very similar scenario to last years quarterfinal ,

Richmond more efficient, Brisbane left rueing their chances
