Burpee Challenge ( Thanks NTA )
-
Pretty easy.....smash out 50 as quick as you can......I managed 2:08, wanna get that down a wee bit. Seeing stars and just about spewing afterwards optional.....
-
I'll give this a shot once I'm back from holidays and detoxed. Might need to build up to it...
-
4 days, 6 hours, 32 mins. Not bad.
-
Just to clarify, the "pretty easy" is referring to working the time out not actually doing them.<br />
<br />
M4L, eager to hear what you get up to when you hit your second ever maul. -
S on you jump do the hands meet at the top like a star jump? And no push up part?
-
Correct. As I've mentioned I don't personally do the push up part due to not wanting to overtrain ( at least thats the excuse I use, I figure I do enough other pushing type exercises )<br />
<br />
First 30 or so are a breeze, last 20 not so much......didn't even have time to build up a sweat despite the morning being pretty warm but legs barely got me up the stairs and lungs completely bursting...... -
My flatmate did 300 the other day. It was for a free ticket to a Mudder event and she did it just for the hell of it. No warm up. That includes the full press-up. It certainly was something!!!

Farrrrrrrrrrrkkkkk, how long did that take ? -
I can't remember. She downloaded the cadence wich was 4 seconds I think and she wasn't allowed to fall out of cadence (Not alllowed to go faster or slower) So I guess I can remember. Circa 4sx 300 = 20 minutes.<br />
<br />
We recorded it and she actually did 304. If you met her, she doesn't look like a really fit athelete. Just has immense willpower with her genreal fitness. She is quite active -

<br />
Ah ok, so she was doing them slower than I was then. My effort definitely more of a sprint which if I could keep it up would have meant I did em in 12 or so minutes ( which if I tried would result in me dying first ).<br />
<br />
But hey, I'm sounding churlish, 304 is a fantastic effort. That is seriously fit as fuck. -
And you don't do the full Press-up, ya puss! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
-
She also had to clap her hands ubove her head with a jump after the press-up
-
I have my reasons brudda, don't wanna undo all my awesome benching and dipping work ( he said shiftily <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/eusa_whistle.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistle:' /> )
-
that is half the battle - mental - a mentally strong person will keep on going when the body starts telling you to stop. Mind over matter does work!
-
Holy shitballs Hooroo, your flatmate must be a machine. 300 full burpees including starjump & pressup... I'd be challengeing M4L's time.<br />
<br />
The 50 straight without pressup sounds like something worth a go. I'll post my time once I've tried it. -

It's a sprint MR, not a marathon...... -
2:41. Out of the blocks like a dog shot in the arse before fading like the big girls flowery blouse that everybody knows I am.<br />
<br />
Was 25 down at about 57 seconds... then had to have a breather and it was set of about 7 or 8 from then on. Last 10 took me 41 seconds, I was completely blown.<br />
<br />
Defo room for improvement. Did enjoy the little burst though, I dont do much (well any, actually) sprint work. -
Good first up from you there MR, I'm of the school of thought that shorter intense cardio is more beneficial than longer stuff. I mean tell a casual observer that ya only doing a few minutes and they will have a go....until they try it and just about pass out that is.<br />
<br />
Another go tomorrow, hoping to crack the 2 minute mark.....I simply can't do 50 in a row ( yet ) at the pace I was doing so the trick is to shorten the rest period by 15 or so seconds. I'm dreading it already. -
what I did today took around 25 mins, but sweat was pouring off me, so much so that it stings my eyes on the planks at the end...short sharp is how I like it, and with the kids about certainly dont have time for long sessions!

25 mins not 2.5 mins. -
So ummmmmm, looks like tomorrow instead. Boys slept in.....so did I and no time for even a couple of minutes of burpees with them wanting brekky and all !
-

Did 3:10 doing the pushup part. Prefer doing this as it farks me up more.<br />
<br />
I think I'm getting the bug for these things. Minimal time required but gutwrenching workout acheived. Did 2 sets of 20 after this and that was enough. Will try doing them regularly. -

<br />
2013 will involve me having a bit more willpower when it comes to these suckers. Any excuse not to do em !<br />
<br />
Only a few minutes but the extra few minutes to crawl up the stairs can be a challenge..... -
Fuck ! Smashed 40 in no time at all, rested a few seconds hit the fucken wall and the last ten just about killed me......<br />
<br />
2:04.......<br />
<br />
I reckon I'll get to a level hopefully soon where I do the 50 in a row ideally around the 1:45 mark. -
Oh Yeah ! Cracked the 2 minute mark........<br />
<br />
1:58, basically no rest, lactic acid in the legs farkin sore still and stupidly decided to walk to work today in the wind and cold ( good on ya for returning to form wellington ). -
might take this one to rugby training....

Not if you expect them to train afterwards. -
That is the beauty of it - " hey fullas, great session. Just one more thing and we're done!"

It'll only take 2 minutes, you're almost done...
-
Aiming for 1:50 tomorrow morning ( haaaaaaaaaaaaa ) <br />
<br />
legs are aching at the very thought of that............ -
1:56:91*<br />
<br />
If you think Im even gonna bother trying that again, you can go frack yourself <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> moreover it took me around 5 more mins to do the other 50 I had planned!!<br />
<br />
*though I was going great guns when I hit 30 in about 58 sec!! -

Terrific effort TR, I take about 1:10 to reach 30 but yeah, you sure hit the wall and they slow down around then. My jumps are almost non existent at the end....I think for those of us dumb enough to think about 100 of the the fuckers the aim would be to do the 50 in about 3 minutes purely so you don't fuck yourself up for the later reps ( but then I guess that's the difference between a sprint and a longer distance !?!?! ) -
set the clock at 2 minutes, told them the target was 50, did the press up part, but not the star jump, just had to have their feet leaving the ground on the leap - arms by their side or whereever they wanted them. Best was 42 from a flanker, a lot of seriously weak willed fuckers. <br />
<br />
Their press ups were worse - worst was 20. Fuck sake boys.<br />
<br />
I did none, might have to do a few sessions of the burpees so when I do get called out I can ace them...!! -

In the Crossfit Open last year the first workout was 7mins burpees, they made you measure a target 6 inches higher that your arm pointed up, which you had to reach with two hands with every jump. Makes an incredible difference to how tired you get.<br />
<br />
Another quirk they make you do that I've been forced into recently is clapping behind your head. Forces you to open your hips on the jump, so you can't cheat by leaning forward. <br />
<br />
A couple of ways to make them harder so you don't have to do so many!<br />
<br />
We did bar facing burpees in last nights WOD. Normal burpee facing a barbel, which you have to jump over (off both feet at the same time), then spin around and do another burpee, repeat. Same concept, makes you work harder on the jump. -

I do that on my jump-squats, reckon it does make a big difference! (at the bottom of the squat I make sure my hands touch my heels)<br />
<br />
I sort of do the last bit with my jump squats, in that I jump forward on one, and back on the next, but adding the bar would make it tougher again! -

Yep, doesn't take much to make things harder. Looking around the gym it's pretty amazing how many different ways people attack burpees as well.
