Coronavirus - New Zealand

@Godder be nice to have a plan for the other side of it too...how we go about re-opening, even partially, what it could look like or what needs to happen for these things.
Give people a glimmer of hope, rather than paint the shitty picture
-
@taniwharugby I believe the current thinking is around safe travel areas (aka shared bubbles), so as other countries eliminate Covid-19, they will come online and we will open up more. In the meantime, the drawbridge is up.

This is it in a nutshell. That is why the Transtasman bubble just took a huge hit. The Pacific are the opposite problem, they don't have covid19 and we don't want to give it to them. The logistics are going to be major. I expect passengers travelling in the bubble cannot share any areas in the airport with incoming patients from outside the bubble or risk transmission

What other countries are remotely close to, or even contemplating trying to eliminate Covid-19???!!!
FFS, this sort of thinking will have NZ as an island (yeah, yeah) for years to come.
-
@Godder that might be the case, but they still need to give a bit of a plan...fuck we get a plan of being sent back to lock down that I expect sent a tremor of fear through many NZers (that I appreciate they need to have) but why not give some plans or thier thinking around how to re-open, what needs to happen, with who etc.
Appreciate it is pie in the sky stuff while so much of the world is in the shitter, but people need something to look forward to in terms of our world returning to 'normal'
or is thier plan keep our borders shut until a vaccine is available?

Likely to be all the countries that don't bring a heck of a lot of $$$ to NZ I imagine. And like @canefan says, how safe can that be really anyway?

@dogmeat how does that gel with the stories we hear of 1 person infecting 70 people in a 1 minute lift ride etc?
1m distance sounds fair, but for 15mins? Seems arbitrary and odd?
Apparently most people who have the virus aren't very contagious - that's why the R0 of Covid-19 is around 2-3 (Measles is usually cited as between 12 and 18, for comparison). However, some people are extremely contagious, super-spreaders basically (especially the asymptomatic ones), and they are the ones who cause massive clusters from small contacts.
Hence NZ's caution - accidentally have a few of those get past quarantine, and we may have a lot of work to do to contain it again.
Incidentally, the roadblock for the Pacific bubble is them as well as us - we need to remove the requirement for quarantine for people returning from the Pacific Islands (this is currently being explored for the Realm particularly), but the islands/Realm also need to open their borders to NZ citizens and residents.

What the fucking fuck is wrong with these fluffybunnies.
If people can't stay in isolation for free, what hope is there for those expected to pay (will they have to pay before stay...)
Seriously, the hammer needs to fall on these fluffybunnies as hard as our laws can, given a shoot on sight order cant be given.
Shut the borders and name and shame these fluffybunnies so overseas kiwis know who to blame

I reckon you're more likely to stay if you pay! Fuck forking out all that moolah and then not getting your money's worth.

@taniwharugby massive fines and jail. Bloody sick of these stupid assholes causing trouble and putting others at risk. It's two weeks in a hotel. Not difficult.

Time to add some serious punishment to all that condemnation. These fucktards need to have the hammer dropped on them in a heavy enough way to send the right message to all the other fucktards to come that will think about doing the same thing. I'm fine with using anklets too. And if anyone complains tell them it was the Hamilton 5's fault
-
Surely the main driver of these fucksticks to coming home now is from the craziness elsewhere to a covid free NZ yet they risk that very thing by thier actions?
If any of these people are not NZ citizens, revoke thier residency and send them off, similarly if they are dual citizens and NZ not thier birth country they should send them away too.
-
@taniwharugby they don't deserve to be here. In fact by their actions they forfeit the right to be here IMO
