@Kirwan maybe I'm a bit cynical, but maybe if 'all' these teachers dont feel they will be safe and/or able to provide a learning environment to the kids on thier class and online (as they are now) then they could opt to have thier pay reduced to the Govt. subsidy?
As I said, I know plenty of teachers, some seem keen as mustard to get back to it, some, think stretching the lockdown out is a good idea...the latter probably fuel my cynicism

@shark I know someone who arrived back several hours prior to midnight on the 15th form Aus, he self isolated anyway, guess it depends on the person and how seriously they took things back then given how rapidly we moved from self-iso, to a soft border close to L3 to L4....15th to 25th?

It's a really interesting point . We arrived knowing we had to isolate, and we took it seriously. But had we arrived a day or a few hours prior??? I genuinely don't think we would have isolated.
Does that make me a terrible person?!!

Absolutely

I should change that shouldn't I? On the phone, I can't even see it really.
Fuck it, I'm keeping it until we hit L2. Blame Cindy not me.

As a headmaster, he raised valid concerns. Not least is he is finding out about the plans the same time as everybody else, and the Minister of Education says they will work out the practicalities next week. Without talking to the schools by the looks of things.
It is a tough time for the schools, teachers, and principals. That said, what you’ve described is also a common experience across much of the wider state sector over the last five weeks.
The police, Work and Income, MFAT, MPI, and so on would also have appreciated two weeks non-contact time in the middle of it all to prepare for major change ahead. Changes that they’ve also learned the practicalities of at the same time as everyone else.
Imagine the result if staff at those places within 24 hours went on the record with the media to complain about govt actions. Those keen to shrink the size of the state sector would have an instant win...

@voodoo Nope. We were part of a large group in Sydney for the ODI series and everyone paid good money to get back prior to the then isolation cut off. I paid an extra $730 for example. Had we genuinely believed we posed a risk to society upon return and should have self-isloated voluntarily upon our return, we would have all stayed there until the Monday evening as originally planned. But instead we all paid through the nose to get home to avoid isolation, and under extreme stress might I add given the situation.

@shark Depends on which country he came from (some were required to self isolate), and whether he was symptomatic.
The country of origin isn't relevent. Pretty sure prior to midnight on the 15th March it didn't matter where you arrived from?

We left for Sydney early on the 13th genuinely thinking it wasn't a big deal. Hell, the Crusaders game had just been moved from Japan to Brisbane, so there was no real concern about Australia. But over the course of the following 36 hours that all changed dramatically.
