My doctor mate (again) made a few interesting points
- The covid 19 tests are not very sensitive. So even if you test negative there is no guarantee you don't have it and it's early.
There are lines of people wanting to be tested, if you know people like this, tell them not to go. If they have it it's too late, and maybe they will stand a higher chance of getting it standing in line waiting
2 If you get covid 19 the best thing you can do is not go anywhere until you feel 100% (assuming you don't need hospital care of course). Anything less and you will potentially be spreading the disease and defeating the purpose of the lockdown
3 Unless you absolutely have to, do not go to medical centres or hospitals!!! They are already crazy busy enough as it is, and you stand a greater chance of exposure.
Basically take yourself and your family out of circulation as much as possible, hopefully it helps slow down the virus, but it is running now and they are struggling to keep up
He was telling me that their supplies of masks etc are tenuous, and yet he was down at Bunnings getting some stuff and found out their heavy masks were leaving as soon as they were put on the shelf. Why is the government not forcefully requisitioning all medical protective equipment, and anything that can be repurposed to be used???

"Act like you have Covid-19. It will help guide your decisions."
that is the kicker isnt it, not sure that message is getting through.
On another note, everyone else get thier mobile ALERT?
Yup

I'm interested in the people who say they won't fish or similar during this, and also in the driving restrictions. I had thought I'd be able to drive the 1km to the start of a running track to exercise alone (3m gap to anyone, always).
But it seems that's not allowed? Why the car restriction? I'm not buying the "I'll need more petrol" line, is it purely to try and change mindsets?
Also, the text line that said "where you are now is where you'll have to stay" isnt particularly helpful to those of us in short term rentals!!!

We got the ministry of transport full fact sheet at work today, cars only for essential medical or food trips, or essential workers to our from work. That's it.
Also, the text line that said "where you are now is where you'll have to stay" isnt particularly helpful to those of us in short term rentals!!!
That's you for for weeks, short term or no, you can't get kicked out, and no one is allowed to take your place if you mysteriously vanished.

Do I have to keep paying the going rate? I'm at a mates holiday rental, but I'm still paying the bastard a decent rate! What a score for him having me turn up when I did, all his other bookings have cancelled!!! 🤣

@voodoo They want to avoid the unnecessary risk of having to rely on search and rescue (often volunteers)/emergency services to attend to people in remote areas which removes them from their own isolation.
Ok, that's an angle I hadn't considered, thanks.
Still a bummer, as it means I have to walk up this fcking hill after my run (I'm physically incapable of running up something this steep). Can't believe they didn't think of me!

What’s your address? I’m running a bit low and am too lazy to fight the morning crowds for TP. I checked out a dairy today and they had a 4 pack for $8.90 so I decided I can make what’s left last a bit longer. 😄

@canefan how do we know they aren't? Or we have enough coming in for stock piling plus retail. Very few people have a full view so it feels easy to take shots at how x or y is being done.
I hope they are mate. But when you call your mates who are front line doctors at two of Auckland's biggest hospitals and they both try to hit me up for PPE or protective gear because there's a shortage at work, my guess is there might be a supply problem

Just back from a small shop at the supermarket (New World). Very orderly with a "one out-one in" policy so we all queued by the door keeping a 2 m distance. No one looked too panicked inside although there were plenty of shoppers wearing face masks and gloves. Alcohol going out the door so 4 weeks of drinking must be the plan.

@No-Quarter The chances of transmitting the virus when you are asymptomatic are believed to be so low as to be statistically zero.
As I said earlier masks are mainly a placebo but if your that freaked PM me and I'll see if I can send you some.
Thanks mate, that's very kind. I'm not planning on going out much at all TBH so I'll make do. Sounds like our hospitals could use them though!

Know your enemy.
- People can be asymptomatic and still spread the disease
- Droplets can fall onto surfaces and exist for hours
Wash your hands. Behave as if you have rhe virus and avoid coughing or sneezing without covering up with an elbow or a mask

Just a quick PSA I can't confirm that alcohol will be delivered by supermarkets, so you have 2 and a half hours to get some if your plan is to not leave the house for four weeks.
much aroha to all of you, stay safe. Catch up in a while
Why can't we go and collect it from the supermarket?
