COVID Testing. Anyone?

Imagining an end to all this always leads to testing and knowing if you're (we're) negative or positive.
But what is it?
How's it done?
And hundreds of other questions?
Anyone been tested? 1st hand stories would be best.
Can we have a speculation free thread on actual testing?

Haven't seen Rembrandt's video but I got tested a couple of weeks ago. Results were negative.
They stick a swab resembling a thin cotton bud up each nostril. Far up each nostril.
They said results would take about 72 hours but I called after about 48 and they had the results which were then sent to my GP to give me clearance.
As this was a couple of weeks ago, I'm sure there are probably newer, better methods for testing. It seems the drive through testing areas were taking swabs from the mouth. On the other hand, it seems like they are leaning towards only testing people returning from overseas or who have been in contact with a confirmed case due to a shortage of resources. Doctors can also make a call if they feel a test is warranted.
Of course, prior to that, there is the fun of waiting in the hospital waiting room, repeatedly using hand sanitiser (they ask you to do it 5 times on arrival) and answering a few questionnaires. I had rung a couple of GP practices beforehand and they pretty clearly told me "DO NOT COME HERE!!!".

They're looking at tests with results provided inside a day - an hour, even.
Science is fucking awesome.
and a farking game changer. Test everyone getting into NZ, test everyone going to work, test eeryone going to the supermarket ... it just opens up opportunities

Just had to be tested (wife is in health care, we have some mild symptoms), Baxymoron is not joking about how deep that swab goes. Tickled my freaking brain.
Very organised process, calling the Healthline, drive through testing. People testing stand two metres back and are full masked and gowned. Very efficient and helpful.
No road blocks
Surprising number of people jogging, must be super bored already.

I'm fine, if we weren't in a pandemic it would barely register as anything more than a head cold. As soon as you start coughing at the moment, the lizard part of your brain freaks out.
I've only been tested because my of my wife. Her friend at one of the hospitals has been put in self isolation too as she was exposed to a patient that's tested positive.
losing the health care workers is what puts a strain on the system.

How long for results? Hoping for the best outcome for you and your family, mate. Again, as we said to @voodoo with his position, if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask.

I had a perspective moment today when out in the pouring rain, cursing a broken trough that we didn't have the right diameter fitting for and trying to re-rig the old system.
I'm home, fed and dry now and it really wasn't a big deal compared to what all the health care workers are doing at this point in time.
(Worst part was if I hadn't mucked around with it in the first place for the smallest of leaks, I wouldn't have had to fix it)

@Hooroo 2-5 days. Thanks, appreicate it. Wife is super organised, so we have supplies aplenty as we can no longer even go to the supermarket (five days strict isolation).
That's hardcore. Why the stricter rules?
