Coronavirus - Australia

75 new cases in Victoria yesterday, and shit is officially getting real.
Nothing in NSW, and only a small number of non-quarantine cases in the last few weeks.
It's going to be a very interesting week, a case study in how to handle an outbreak. Do they lock down Melbourne, or certain suburbs? Surely they can't go a full statewide lockdown.

I’m not that surprised at the rise really given the significant growth in testing that is going on.
You should see the setups in some of these suburbs. Mobile test facilities at the end of the street. An army of foot soldiers going door to door.

so, will Victoria being a disease-ridden shithole mean that our beloved premier peek out and see a shadow or not? If she sees that shadow, our borders aren't opening.
-
@barbarian said in Coronavirus - Australia:
Wouldn't shock me if she opened borders to WA/SA but not NSW/Vic.
But there's no chance she's throwing them open to all comers IMO.
yep, agreed

About fucking time.

Is she having a fucking laugh? All her pot shots at NSW especially?

What a shocker of a press conference from the Qld Premier. Even putting the hypocrisy to the side, this could’ve been announced weeks ago and given businesses some certainty. If there were issues about outbreaks then sure put in place the necessary changes. But this eradication strategy has been nothing more than political backside covering, not about protecting Queenslanders.
South Australia is a shocker as well.

@antipodean I didn't realise Queensland bordered Victoria.

of course it is. And the fact that the opposition haven't come straight out and asked why we are opening now, when the situation is worse, and not 3 weeks ago, when it was really good, is testament to how fucking shit they are.

Perhaps Palachook doesn't either. Which suggests that the border controls will continue for anyone in a VIC plated car. Or maybe it's an excuse to finally stop them coming in.

I think there are a lot of people realising that this isn't going away. It's even out there in asymptomatic people spreading it around. Closing borders didn't actually work anyway, so why do it again?
That may be the reasoning, but they are politicians, so there probably isn't much of that word going on.

So Australia managed to get to a low of 482 confirmed active cases a fortnight ago and only 11 cases in hospital a week ago. Thanks to the insufferable incompetence of Chairman Dan and the People's Democratic Republic of Victoria, there's now over 1000 confirmed active cases and an estimated 3000 residents in inner-city tower blocks in Melbourne are locked in. 500 police have been deployed to ensure no one enters or leaves these premises.
-
It’s quite a story if any of it is true: randy security guards banging hotel guests under quarantine, when they actually do go to work. It sounds like a great movie premise.

NSW to close the Victorian border today. Finally. I've been calling for this for years.
Hopefully that's positive for the trans Ta$man bubble
