Lockdown Check In

  • @Bones the Kenny Powers. Strong.

  • @Bones outstanding. I've been considering letting the beard grow and just not styling my hair in any way to go for the Jesus/homeless look. Just need to get through the phase where it itches like hell, which is when I usually shave it off.

I felt bad outdoing the Dornan pic but hei aha.
    @R-L

  • @No-Quarter I'm in the latter stages of that! Usually when I get to this stage I shave it into a bogan goatee and get m4l'd back to the bathroom.

  • Today was always going to be the happy/sad day of lockdown for me.

    Happy: today is Mum's 80th birthday! ๐Ÿ™‚
Sad: her rest home is only 1.5km away, but it may as well be on the moon for all the good that is at the moment.

The very very slight silver lining of Alzheimer's is that covid-19 is mostly a background thing on the news to her, and she's not worried about it at all.

Work has been busy in lockdown, which has certainly made the time fly. The downside is that there are people out there in some pretty difficult situations, and where there are answers for them - the answers often aren't happy ones.

  • I was enjoying myself until today. Then within one hour had two different grown men on the phone in tears about their situation. Fucking sucked , put one on to lifeline as was clearly looking for that sort of thing, the other prob needs it but would not accept it.
Those calls made me evaluate this situation in a whole new light. This lockdown is taking a massive toll, that is mostly unseen inside bubbles.

  • @Baron-Silas-Greenback I had a networking meeting this morning, and many of them are clients of mine, and you can see the strain on the faces of a few of them, but I have other clients who I know had a shit ton of work on prior to the lock down, I know some of it will be there after, but the world will be different, even if they due go back to level 3 and 2 in the next 2-4 weeks.

One also mentioend 2 Dr's that have lost thier job too, although one of them has picked up work elsewhere...

  • It's shit for a lot of people.

That's what annoys me so much about all the people I see flouting the lockdown rules in bigger or smaller ways.

People, today, who were wandering though the supermarket without even a fucking basket - their shopping was so small.

One fuck-up by one person could end up costing us all billions of dollars.

  • @Donsteppa ND will never return to exactly how it was. I think international is tucked for a long time sorry @mariner4life and I fear we could be in for a long - recession. Years not months.

  • @Donsteppa Happy 80th Birthday to yo mamma! Sure that's hard for you and family being unable to visit. Celebrate when 2020 stops being a bitch.

Sounds like it's been pretty shit for a few of you today/yesterday. Hope you are all dealt a better day today/tomorrow- depending one when you read this.

  • There are always going to be people that this affects more than others.

The situation is in place to "look after everyone" but not everyone can be looked after.

I'm just happy that we are not an Italy or Spain. I don't think NZ could cope with that type of death rate, long term.

  • Had been giving myself a rest from the board for a bit and clicked on this thread as I thought it was meant to be the 'personal stories' one.
Can we take the 'how well the govt is doing' stuff to NZ thread and away from here?
This one can be left as a bit of a sanctuary.

I moved some of the posts to the NZ thread

I must say I'm feeling a little covid thread fatigue this morning. All of us have our opinions about what is the best course of action and no one appears to be winning anyone else over. The cooking thread is probably today's favourite right now, the meme one has been too quiet to receive serious consideration

The pressure is on @MiketheSnow. He's turned himself into the Maximus Decimus Meridius of memes. Are we not entertained?

  • I'm not sure if this is helpful or not (or whether previously posted)?
    Supermarket queues:

    https://www.howlongistheline.org/

Obviously needs people to use it to make it accurate, and I have only had 20 min waits for the 2 times that I have been, but not a bad idea if it is worse in some areas.

I had a two hour wait yesterday but I could wait at home as you receive a text and you have 5 mins to get there. I left the farm with about 10 mins and got the text half way to town.

  • @Snowy just had a look, there are at least 4 different Countdown Tikipunga lists...seems all down to spelling of the person that starts it.

My wife has found Pak'n'Save to be far and away the most efficient of the ones in Whangarei, in terms of waiting, product availability and just better organised.

I expect today to be worse with all the people panic buying today due to not being able to for a whole day tomorrow!

  • I was in a supermarket queue this morning that stretched ~150 m, probably 40 people waiting in line with wide spacing. It took about 30 mins to get inside so not a major inconvenience.

  • Highlight of the day: realising that Dominic Raab is a bit of alright.

Measure my day by that if you will.

  • Some may remember a post from a couple of years back, where I talked about the first porno I ever watched, and it's awesome soundtrack

Yesterday I found out this movie is on PornHub

Of course I watched it. It was made in 1980. It's all muff and moustache. It is an actual movie, with a plot and everything.

    Vintage porn rules.

  • @mariner4life IMDB link or title?

The actors had much better names back then too

  • Week 2 of this lockdown had definitely been the hardest, fair to say peopleโ€™s nerves are a bit frayed and fighting off cabin fever is getting harder every day.
Can imagine those living alone or in a new living arrangement might be finding it harder then others.
If you know someone in that situation please keep an eye on them say hi ( as we are doing with my oldest daughter who only just moved into a new flat 2 weeks before the lockdown and is finding it tough).
Thereโ€™s an abundance of good feeling here and speaking for myself I appreciate how we are looking out for each other. Letโ€™s keep it up

  • @Virgil wow virg, are your kids grown up almost. I think I can remember when they were born on the fern. Am I imagining things? God knows we're getting fucking old!๐Ÿ˜„

  • Got absolutely wankered last night. Hungover as shit today

    I just started drinking again

I can't imagine my mental state if the racing wasn't on

  • @mariner4life I'm basically into it from 3pm these days. Start on the balcony, move into the kitchen dinner, then balcony.

This lockdown better finish in 10 days or my liver is fcked

I've decided to consume a case of Corona tonight in an attempt to build up immunity. I shall report in tomorrow on the ill effects, if any.

I had three beers - which for me these days is "drunk". We were on a video call with some friends we've not seen in a while. Mrs TA had a few scotches but I got zero.

This lock-in is fucking bullshit. If she's not bored and drunk enough to do it now, then FFS WHEN???

  • no workout for me, but spent over 2 hours cutting/hacking at flaxes in mid-20 heat this morning, sweating buckets, consumed 3l of water while doing it too.

About half done, but have encountered a potential issue...

a nest of unknown size, just a decent number of these flying about

Two weeks drinking is a holiday, three is getting unhealthy...

We were in a state enough to do it at 7.30 last night with the kids knocking on the door "go away!!!"

    Such responsible parenting
