      Always gonna happen living semi-rural.

Anywhoo, question is about those plug in rodent control things.

Anyone used them and attest to thier effectiveness (or not)

I been poisoning them, found dead ones, but colder and wetter at present sees them seeking shelter to breathe in those pink batt fibres.

I think I know how they are getting onto my roof to get into the roof space, but no way of stopping them short of getting rid of my carport.

I'm a skeptic, but have no evidence or data to back me up.

        so I google.

Do Ultrasonic Pest Repellents Really Work? - Today's Homeowner

Read this article to find out if electronic ultrasonic pest control devices really help eliminate rats, mice, and insects in your home.

In 2001, the Federal Trade Commission sent a warning to manufacturers of ultrasonic pest control devices, demanding that claims of effectiveness must be backed up by scientific research.

honestly, I'd keep on with poison and pets

@nzzp yeah I am skeptical too, some of these units can be hundreds of dollars, so at that cost you would expect it to work...

We just set up poison around all our feed areas and it seems to smoke them.

Cat seems to know not to eat them once poisoned too which is handy

I put my security camera in the roof and it picked up the fat fucker last night...eating the poison.

Be better if he ate the poison in the trap, so it kills him straight away.

Apparently coastal taipans are specialised rodent hunters. They'd be good to have around.

@dogmeat not really keen to chuck my cats up in amongst the pink bats...but I cant wait for the rats to get cancer from breathign in the fibres from the pink bats either!

Video last night I have better idea where they are, but they is loving the poison, just hope they fuck off to die, unlike the one a couple of weeks ago that I found dead up there.

@taniwharugby you need the right poison. Clever little fuckers. They will learn to avoid poison if they link a death with it so need a slow acting. Why the anti-coagulants (disgusting though they are) work well. Plus no smell

@taniwharugby I buy mine from a Pest Control co. Wear gloves to set the baits as they will avoid it (so I was told) if they smell humans. I buy a tub at a time. They love it so much that they knawed into the last tub and cleared it out.

                                    Haven't (touch wood0 seen a rodent since

yeah directons on back of box says to wear gloves.

So far looks like a solo one, maybe a pair (have caught juveniles in trap) up there, but would prefer none at all given I know the damage they can do to wiring and anything else they gnaw on, and also that insurers dont cover rodent damage (only resultant - say a fire from chewing wires)

What the name of the product you use?

I think that is chocolate for rats. Peanut butter for mice.

@taniwharugby Contrac - the active ingredient is Bromadiolone.

You're using Brodifacoum (most commonly called Talon). I didn't get as good a result with Talon but it could just be what the local nest(s) are partial to I guess.

I use bait stations as I know that they just as harmful to mammals and birds as they are to rodents.

@dogmeat in my roof other mammals and birds ain't an issue...although I have seen a bug that 'flies' about up there triggering the motion sensor, possibly a clicker bug (am sure you know what I mean) as they often get in the down light fittings and make a racket Haha

great, went up to put the fans in the roof for the winter, and was a very distinct smell of somethign dead... have an old GoPro-type camera with no infra red on it, so looking at fitting a light I have to the extendable selfie stick that came with it and do a bit of a search in the soffit that I struggle to get near enough to due to the roof...which will be a painful exercise searching and then watching (probably to find the body either the 1st place I went to, or where I probably cant reach anyway...)
