Best Kiwi Rock Songs

This deserves a thread of it's own. Self explanatory.
Instead of just dumping youtube vid upon youtube vid at least try and be creative and explain your thoughts.
I'll start with this, cos this song fucken goes off and is in my opinion the BEST thing Dave Dobbyn ever did which isn't that tough when you consider I find most of his stuff cheesy as fuck.
Great fronting from Peter Urlich, encouraging binge drinking with mates, cool guitar licks and probably the most underrated, punchy driving bassline in history. Whats not to like ?
-
@MN5 love that song. One of the themesongs of my Otago uni years
-
This one is cool cos it's catchy as anything and less known than their bigger hits.
Mark Hunter had an absolutely wicked voice. His brother was a solid bass player who harmonised well and had ridiculous boots.
-
I love Be Mine Tonight as well. Great riff

Banger. They look like they had so much fun doing what they did.
-
I love the best of Hello Sailor too, for the same reasons. Gutter Black and Blue Lady are great fun catchy tunes
-
I watched a documentary on Pauly Famuina a while back, he was very talented. How bizarre and Right On have aged well
-
Love Don McGlashan's voice.
-
I was born for this thread. A few faves from me
Love this track. There is an acoustic on Spotify which I listen to regularly
Always have this on when I fly to NZ ... as the plane comes down the top of the North Island makes it turn into Auckland Airport always gets me going.
And then one which only recently came back into my heavy rotation due to the unforunate passing of it's lead musician
I could probably post 50 songs on this thread!

I hear all that.....but I hate the gratuitous usage of the songs in tv shows/ads etc.

I took a picture of Dom road from up the sky tower last year when I was in Auckland. Posted it on my socials with the question "what's halfway down this road". Not one person had a clue what I was talking about.
Probably because they all think I'm a fluffybunny and have me set to ignore.
-
Cool song, pretty damn amazing voice and easy on the eye......slightly questionable lyrics. What happened to these guys ?

This self deprecation deserves all the upvotes.

That's not really the songs' fault though is it?
-
@MN5 it was a troll. I fucken hate the exponents. I remember going to the Tote one time and they were playing. I sang along like a c&nt all to try and get a bit of chick I knew was going. The gig was better than the sex.

Ya know, I never got to go to the Tote. Could never understand heading to Upper Hutt for a big night. Leave that to the city boys I guess

I dunno bro, if you turned up to the tote with a shirt that wasn't ripped or covered in blood plus you had all your teeth the locals looked at you like you were a movie star.
-
@Bones I started going in 7th form on Wednesdays for cheap drinks and a 10 minute train ride back to Lower Hutt. I could go for a couple hours and still be ok for school the next day lol.
-
A couple of favourites from the days of driving around with a crate looking for a party on a Saturday

I hope you spared a thought for those of us who needed a year or so to grow a few hairs on their chin and had to move around in the shower just to get wet.

Ten minutes from the Tote only gets you to Epuni! Trentham would have seemed classy by comparison

They had no bouncers until later in the night. My bum fluff was not fooling anyone

This genuinely rocks and should be lauded as such.........yet Lorde gets lauded ( see what I did there ). Fucks me off to no end.
-
Darcy Clay. He didn't do much, but shit - the crazy fuck had potential.
-
@MN5 To be fair, I really like Royals. Not enough to listen to anything else she's done though.
Chick dances like a retard too. Not relevant, but worth noting.
YouTube started playing this just now ...

Absolutely.....and hopefully just to prove I'm not an old man yelling at clouds I'll throw this in there.
Her voice is amazing and the tunes are bangin.

I'll throw out a couple other songs from the Kiwi ladies.
Jan Hellriegel - The Way I Feel
Jenny Morris - You I Know (written by Neil Finn).
