I actually like the look of this one, but I have my principles. No more cash to Lucas films until the current turd burgers running the show get the same treatment they gave to Admiral Akbar.
Solo is probably the most Star Wars-y of the new films. I think you’d like it.
Good luck not giving your money to Disney
You can protest all you like, but in the end you won't resist not knowing

That ship has sailed.
Although Solo sounds like it’s not going that well, so maybe a correction is coming up
It would be a shame if a film that is actually good doesn't do well, but that's the inevitable consequence of making crap films and farking over the fan base. They talk about SW fatigue but strangely that doesn't apply for Marvel. If TLJ was actually good people would be going to Solo.

Is the SW franchise stuck in a similar rut to DC? They find it hard (especially the main trilogy) to break out of what is perceived to be their lane. It might be time to flip the script and try going in a more interesting direction. Time will tell if they can do that with the third film. Some different script writers with a wide brief might be a start

See thats what really disappointed me about TFA. I was hoping for something fresh and new, but all we got was a soft reboot and the untimely death of a terrific and beloved character. Rogue One was cool because despite most of the characters being completely new it still felt like a SW and captured the feeling of those films. It's great to have the old characters make cameos, but make them do something good, not make them sad dejected old men then kill them ffs.

I thought they could have asked the director of the best ever film in the franchise to make a comeback.
Sadly he died in 2010.....
I don't know what they are doing right now, but Ridley Scott or James Cameron can make a bloody awesome looking film. Might be time to bring out the big guns and leave them alone to make a great film

TLJI'd slot Solo in just below TLJ before the gigantic gap to the prequels. But as you note, repeat viewings might see it change.
True. TLJ gets worse, pretty certain Solo won't though
Didn't for me, but lets not kick if off again.
And too late ...
(And, I've just joined the self quote club).
In all seriousness, why do you hate the prequels with a passion but like the new films? Did you seriously enjoy TLJ?
:::
Because I find the prequels unwatchable when trying repeat viewings. Yes.
But why? At least provide some reasons.
Why aren't the new films just as bad?
I can't really be arsed, as we've been going on about this for months now, but I got bored trying to rewatch the prequels (Natalie Portman comes out of them looking like a first year acting student), I don't get that with any of the new ones, I've watched them all bar Solo multiple times, so no I don't find them just as bad.
I think you just need to make your peace with the fact that people like the new ones ... just like I assume some people like the prequels.
Christ, all I wanted to know was why. Apparently it's still too hard to actually provide a proper answer to that question.
That is a proper answer, just not the one you want. Whatever answer I give you'll ignore and start another complaining again in a few days when someone posts something positive about Star Wars anyway, but if you want some more detail here we go, prequels:
The acting is crap, even the good actors are crap in them.
The CGI is fake looking, no settings looked real or lived in.
The scripts are rubbish.
Darth Vader is an annoying kid and then a douche (Han is basically still just Han in Solo).
Aside from a few lightsaber fights the action is ponderous or too CGI'd.New films:
Rogue One is an awesome war film set in the Star Wars universe.
The Force Awakens was a fun adventure ride in the New Hope style.
The worst part about TLJ is the casino scenes, those scenes feel like they're from the prequels.
They're funny, some people don't like humorous Star Wars, I do.
The CGI is better and the look is a better merger of the original trilogy aesthetics and CGI. -
@nepia Funny you should say that about the CGI from the prequels. I assume it was done by ILM? I've always found their stuff to be terrible to look at. The stuff that Lucas added to the original films when he brought out the remastered box set was rubbish too. Han's chat with Jabba, the banthas, the arrival of Luke Ben and the droids into Mos Eisley, all looked fake

I actually thought the exact opposite.

This release date was actually pretty weird. It's too close to Avengers and Deadpool, and if you're coming out near those movies you want to be first out of the blocks rather than last.
They'd have been better releasing at what is the normal Star Wars time now in December.
Also, depends what they expect from this - this might be an Ant Man equivalent, where they don't need to make Avengers/Iron Man 2/Civil War (Force Awakens/Rogue One, TLJ) type money.

Actually I will just note that complaining about the scripts in the prequels but not applying that to TLJ is utterly ridiculous. How was that a good or even adequate script? I'll agree on CGI, acting, even humour if that's your thing, but the scripts? TLJ has more holes than Swiss cheese and TFA is just a copy of ANH.

I guess this is the crux of difference between Marvel and the new Star Wars.
Marvel are able to say faithful to the source material, yet update it where they need to. They are also able to do different movie styles and yet all the movies feel like they take place in the same universe.
Everyone can have their opinions on what films they like and don’t like, but it’s undeniable that the Last Jedi was very devisive.

They did the next best thing with Solo and got Kasdan, who wrote ESB and ROTJ to write the script.
And that’s a large reason it felt so much like a Star Wars film. Was essentially a fun adventure story.

Mild spoilers, but a good summation;
Looks like they should have waited until december to release this. Some distance from TLJ (and Deadpool, Avengers, Black Panther) would help. And you’d get a fairer comparison with Rogue One.
It’s a shame, I wanted a sequel to this. Might be DOA, and have ramifications for other stand alone stories.
Reading online, Rancid is not alone in his views about the politics in TLJ and people are voting with their wallets.

That's an awesome summary.
Shit, makes me wanna rush back and see it this week!
I completely forgot about
:::
The four armed little alien. He was as cool as the feminist droid was irritating.
:::
-
@kirwan Pretty good summary.
:::
I'm not sure that this will be Han and Lando's only meeting before Empire which is what the writer implies.
I found the droidist droid funny, and the droid uprising had me in stitches due to that little droid bouncing up and down on the control desk.
:::
But yep, stupid time to release it, I go to a movie on average every week and even I was a little blockbustered out after Avengers and Deadpool in a row.
-
Yup should have been released in December like the rest.
its a shame, those staying away for the reasons mentioned above are depriving themselves of a bloody good movie.
Be a shame if this meant no further sequels were green lit.@Kirwan im pretty sure 80% of those negative comments online towards TLJ are just trolls taking delight in ruining everyone elses SW experiences. Yep it had its problems but nowhere near as bad as most are making out.
Its just the world we live in now, everyone with a keyboard can join in with which ever mob is making the most impact. -
