My main issue is that she is an astonishingly shit and annoying main character and there's been a few of those in SW of late.
Fark TLJ was absolute shit.
Had absolutely no idea you felt that way
What are your views on Holdo, Rose and Locksmith Gimp Virgil?
Didn’t bother me at all, now if you asked my opinion on Jar Jar, young Anakin ( Anny), and those Asian Trade Federation representatives from PM then it would be different
You seriously had no issue with those 3 characters? The only major new characters I would add. Just think about that. New SW film and the only new characters are a purple haired lesbian, a dumpy mechanic chick and a stuttering locksmith. That's just shit. No way you can defend that.

So you hated them? But Virgil, it's only a movie...
Never said I hated them, nothing about any SW film drives me to rant and rage on a forum.
Those characters I mentioned are ones I cane up with at the top of my head as my most disliked. Don’t hate themRemember fear leads to anger... anger leads to Hate.. hate leads to suffering..

No but anyone criticising them gets slandered as sexist and misogynist. Which makes you a really bad person for doing so.

Actually, just back on this. The problem with your response is that you're comparing apples with oranges. TLJ is film 2, while you're referencing TPM. So let's take AOTC. You have Fango Fett, Count Dooku, older Anniken, Obi and Padme, the clone troopers etc. In other words new and cool characters and development of the existing ones. You also get to see Mace Windu and Joda do their thing. You get jack shit in TLJ. Ffs, Luke doesn't even fight, he's just a hologram and that kills him! Damn, how much more evidence do you need that this was a truly awful film and a massive dump on the SW legacy?

I hate all the modern Star Wars movies. That being said, I actually enjoyed Solo. So if like me you think there's been nothing good in this space for decades, give Disney a chance with this. It has Ron Howard as director, so it's already on the winning track.
Yep, it will be good to get a 3rd stream going over on that thread - so far we've got modern haters, prequel haters and we can add hates everything but original trilogy.
Whats your stance on the Ewok movies?
Never watched them because I hated Ewoks. They were originally meant to make Wookies look like teddy bears. But then as a primary school student I wanted the Empire to win...

Damn, my dream of finding an Ewok movie defender is foiled again. Now that would have spiced up the thread.

I haven't seen them decades but loved the 2nd one as a kid. Probably wouldn't like it as much as an adult. The ridiculous this is that the first film is about this boy and girl finding and saving their parents. All happy and heart-warming, yet in 2nd film, boys and parents are killed in the first 5 minutes. Bit morbid.

I think I've only seen one - Caravan of Courage, was that the rescue their parents one?
I think that they were released at the movies in some countries, including NZ, but were TV movies in US.

The 2nd one was far more action packed. Just viewing the trailer I don't think I will have good things to say about it now...

I’m not a fan of her recent behaviour, but looking at this as a business decision it’s a no brainer.
Look at the amount of money generated.

I strongly disagree. Solo flopped badly and Marvel has now superseded SW. Anyone could have made stupid money from the initial releases. It's how this IP is handled going forward that is key. It can hardly be said to be in safe hands while she's in charge.

It made $400 million worldwide, so not a complete disaster. They at least wouldn’t have lost money on it, and that will be blamed on the directors they fired.
By any business measure, putting your opinions to one side, they have made a shit ton of money. Same will happen for the next one too.
The lesson they have learned is they were releasing too many of them, and they could be right there. There will be a big gap before Episode 9 and that pent up demand will get them over a billion again easily.
It’s pointless comparing them to Marvel (particularly as it’s all Disney anyway), nobody has been able to replicate that success, and I doubt anybody will. And if surpassed Star Wars because it’s new and the kids don’t have the nostalgia we have for Star Wars.
That and China like Marvel but don’t get Star Wars.
What you can hope for is that Johnson trilogy to be quietly shelved. He’s not helped his case by his behaviour trolling fans on Twitter, and they have fired directors twice already.

They wouldn't have made money on 400 mill worldwide. That's assuming the entire gross goes to the studio, which it doesn't. Add marketing costs etc. and the fact that this was supposed to be a new franchise and I can't see how that film wasn't an absolute disaster.
I don't buy the argument that there have been too many films. People can't get enough of Marvel. Why should SW be any different? I've mentioned it a few times but Dr Strange kicked the shit out of Han Farking Solo. Just think about that for a minute.
At the end of the day Solo was a film that no one, not even most hardcore fans, even wanted. There is so much material in the vast SW universe to pump out multiple films. But that won't happen until the dickheads in charge ditch the whole SJW, Force is Female, rooting robots thing and actually focus on developing good characters and storylines. I can't help but think SW is currently like the Allblacks if they ditched the current selectors and coaches and replaced them with feral Greens and art critics.

ok getting sucked in here..probably a few reasons why Solo tanked at the BO (compared to previous releases). One big reason i feel you cant compare SW to Marvel is that the Marvel films are all chapters in the same story. Even if some are further out on their own compared to others, we all know there will be some link to the MCU. Then another phase kicks off and we see about 356 super heroes sharing Avengers 3.
Solo has no connection to the new trilogy, sure its part of the SW universe but its completely stand alone. Plus its kinda a movie no one really asked for. Even i wasnt that excited to hear it was being made, very different to the feeling and excitement of Rogue One (a film that also had supposed issues during production)
There was of course the whiny bitches who boycotted Solo out of spite for how they were harmed over Episode 7.
In hindsight the powers to be should have delayed Solo's release and had it come out at Xmas this year. Im pretty sure it would have done alot better.
Id like to think they gave that serious thought but decided to take the chance anyway.
Its a shame because Solo is a great movie, worthy of its place in the SW universe.Agree with @Kirwan , you cant hold Marvel as something to compare to. Those films are like Lightening in a bottle, you will never replicate it no matter how hard you try... i mean look at the mess that DC is in..
-
I saw Solo the other week and thought it was a good flick.
I think the difference here is that Marvel is all about telling a story and its always moving forward. Star wars does this as well episode 9 will be huge. But prequels are dumb we know where the main characters will end up. So there is no real suspense.
They can't seem to find the right balance of back story for anyone in Star Wars. You need more then what snoke got but you don't need a whole fucking movie for every character.
Thats my view anyway.

Guardians of the Galaxy was just as stand-alone as Solo. Absolutely killed it. The massive difference is that Marvel have been building up huge momentum since Iron Man. SW destroyed that momentum with TLJ. There is no farking way Solo bombs if that film was better received, regardless of when it's released. While you may have loved TLJ for some inexplicable reason, shit loads of people didn't. Just look at the fan ratings. That film was toxic. Complaining about timing, SW saturation etc. are just ways of deflecting from the fact that TLJ was complete shit and the fans voted with their wallets.

Maybe you're correct but I think the fact that everyone knew solo would not add momentum to the main story line was a factor. For Marvel you need to see each new movie to keep up with the story to prepare for the next one.
Nobody was thinking shit I need to see the back story about a guy they killed in the second to last movie to prepare myself for the next star wars film. Well I certainly didn't think that.
Marvel is now starting to falter a bit. Ant man and the wasp was not the hit Ragnarok was.
