@taniwharugby watched it last night
did not change my view that these guys are not fucking wired right
didn't find it as compelling. Maybe because the main guy was so reluctant. maybe because the shit he was doing was so fucking ridiculous it was harder to spell out the jeopardy.
Agree - it's Free Solo, Dawn Wall and Alpinist, in that order

Perhaps because I'd seen Dawn Wall before (and only realised after I'd started watching it) but I really liked Alpinist because of the lunacy.
##spoiler
I knew without a shadow of a doubt that the movie was going to end with his demise. You simply can't do that shit and live long.

Rad. Thats some watching arranged for one night this week. Seen Free Solo & Alpinist before, both were fascinating, althoughI actually got a bit of vertigo just watching them.
Not seen The Dawn Wall but I remember when the climb was being done and all the media attention. Looked insane.
Does it cover how they take a dump when living on the wall? Actually serious question!

Fuck that shit. Fuck it very much.
It's not so much that I'm scared of heights, it's more that I'm scared of falling from them and hitting the ground at the bottom.
I'm currently on the 16th floor of hotel. Protected by door, locked ranch slider and 1m balustrade and that's still too much.
Not never ever no fucking way am watching any of that shit.

One for the hoopers or those that love a good sports scandal - Operation Flagrant Foul. It’s on Netflix and is the story of NBA ref Tim Donaghy and betting on games.
Still think Sacramento were screwed over…
Quite enjoyable
-
@mariner4life I watched Free Solo last night.
I think I still preferred The Alpinist, but agree, those guys are just different...I mean lets take 3 hours climbing a rock, with your life based on a tiny little ledge of a few MM that your foot is on or hand is holding.
Dude had ape-like feet though, wonder if what he does has made them slightly different.
But that whole last 20 mins or so as he was climbing that rock, gave me butterflies.
Might have to look at Dawn Wall too.

Apparently the Bowie documentary doesn't mention his drug use at all? It was a very, very big part of his life, career movements, and music. Lame as fuck.
People should watch the 1975 BBC documentary Cracked Actor instead. He is making and performing great music, but is absolute fucked up and paranoid as hell.

Trainwreck: Woodstok '99
Hooooly shit. What a clusterfuck of epic proportions.
So much blame to go around. Some of the excuses given were horrible.
Not enough blame was given to the absolute assholes in the crowd. Yes, the way they were treated was fucking terrible. But all that sexual assault was fucking horrific. Zero fucking excuse for any of that.
Did remind me what a fucking epic show Korn could put on.
watched it last night, bloody hell!
agreed with what you said...doesn't sound like pretty much anyone was held responsible for anything!
also, i barely remember it happening let alone what a "trainwreck" it became, shows you how little attention i paid to shit happening overseas or how easy it was t miss things overseas before the infoweb was everywhere

One episode in to 'FIFA Uncovered' and hooked.
Traces FIFA's spiral into corruption through the Havelange and Blatter years of the 70s, 80s 90s and beyond.
Quite revealing how non sporty types like Blazer got involved for the $$$.
Netflix.
Watch.
Agreed - really good watch on how power corrupts. The sheer politicking makes rugby look like a bunch of 4yo kids.
That guy from the Qatar bid team was amazing in his sheer certainty that they'd done everything above board and nobody died on his watch.

Would not play poker against him.

The Volcan: Rescue from Whakaari
20mins in and I have an intense dislike of the Americans. It didn't start well when the woman said "evaaaahhh". But it went downhill from there; didn't think an active volcano was potentially dangerous, complained that open water was choppy and they felt sea sick.
40mine in and the footage is amazing. We're now getting into the rescue response.
I don't know if the crew of the Phoenix received bravery awards, but they clearly should have.
Add the Volcanic Air guys to that too - outstanding New Zealanders.
I always find it difficult to watch people deal with grief, the loss of loved ones. But I guess there's no way to do this without it.

@antipodean yeah Hoppy is a mate of mine, speaking to him a couple of days after and he wouldn't talk about it, other than to say it was unbelievably grim and scarring. Article below has the awards.
As an aside he's one half of the brilliant Bay Tropics business I'm always plugging on here that I know @canefan is a big fan of.
