This has worst defeat ever written all over it, and we can't even talk it off by saying it was a final.
My hope is that we score more than 17 and they score less than 61.
-
@gt12 The Chiefs 53-3 loss to the Cats in 2000 was a worse margin.

Dammit, I knew there was a worse one.
OK, so if they score less than 61 and we get more than 3, we can call it a win?
-
Back in the Chiefs good days they would get past the Saders with bullying and niggle. Messam and BBBR would get the ugly on and annoy the fuck out of them.
I don’t see anyone with those attributes in this current squad. -
Hopefully there's some cricket on at the same time as this game...

It's like being a Blues fan of the last few years. Our campaign was over before cricket season finished.

Scores might be similar

So you think some of their fans on here should get a call up?

Brad Weber must qualify. Actually most halfbacks would so a bit unfair on him.
-
I am actually excepting a “backs to the wall” performance from the Chiefs but not enough cohesion to get enough points on the board or to force the Saders into errors

I don’t see anyone with those attributes in this current squad. It was the support cast too: Lats, Clarke, Sona, Hika/Schwalger
(edit: TKB was probably in the upper level and a key piece)
That second layer of great pros are missed.

I don’t see anyone with those attributes in this current squad.not to mention that BBBR and Messam are miles better players than basically everyone in the squad.
Yes we bullied them, and it was hilarious watching national heroes completely not used to it. But we then backed it up by being a well-coached side full of talented players.
Right now we are neither of those things.
The player drain that previously smashed the NPC is now smashing Super Rugby.

I'm optimistic that Covid will be good for that in the medium term. PLayers aren't heading overseas as much, and a number are looking to come home. It's a good thing for NZ Rugby

good catch, not sure I have anything to back that up. There's a bunch heading to the Force, and I can see the attraction of playing in NZ. The money is falling out of the overseas leagues right now, so I figured that would lead to NZ being more attracitve ... but as you note, I don't have shit to back that opinion up with. It's teh Fern way.
-
There's definitely less money in Europe and it isn't as appealing as a lifestyle in the short term. Plus the world cup winning Boks must be top targets, especially with nothing going on in SA and finances even worse.
But when you see some of the teams lining out, there is definitely the feeling this is one of the weaker years for NZ.

the squads look like current AB squad members, and kids.

You've omitted the player who the Crusaders moaned about the most - big Ben T.
The Chiefs were in the fight in the game in Chch last year so stranger things have happened. Let's see who McMillan picks this week.
I actually had him there but removed him as he was really a young'un who fed off the energy and culture created by those other guys (esp. Sona). He was a menace to them though, those were fun years.
-
Haha I kinda love how this thread is all of us Chiefs fans talking shit about our own team 😅

Winning leads to complacency obviously.
-
Eh I'll give it a crack coz I'm bored. I expect McMillan to bring some changes, especially in the backs.
- Reuben O'Neill
- Samisoni Taukei'aho
- Angus Ta'avao
- Tupou Vaa'i
- Naitoa Ah Kuoi
- Samipeni Finau
- Sam Cane
- Luke Jacobson
- Brad Weber
- Damian McKenzie
- Etene Nanai-Seturo
- Alex Nankivell
- ALB
- Jonah Lowe
- Shaun Stevenson
Reserves:
16. Bradley Slater
17. Ollie Norris
18. Sione Mafileo
19. Stan van den Hoven
20. Simon Parker
21. Xavier Roe
22. Kaleb Trask
23. Sean WainuiI'd pick ALB at 12 usually but Wainui was problematic and Nankivell is a better 12 than 13. Hopefully I didn't name any injured players.
-
Just reading that Boshier is still out with his foot injury. No other injuries from those that played.
-
@yeetyaah Is Tupaea or Tiatia available?
-
@arhs unsure on either so just named players I'm sure of. Dunno if I'd have Tiatia in the lineup anyway. Maybe Tupaea off the bench.
-
@arhs Tiatia played for BOP on Friday. Maybe Ross is available too.

Probably better, but still Saders by lots. No help up front in that bench, and not strong enough in the starting 15 to hold back the matrix.
-
@gt12 That front five is getting rolled everyday.
-
-
If Mafileo is in the 23 he starts. A much better scrummager than Angus.
With all props fit I would like Ross and Mafileo to start with Moli and Ta'avao on the bench.

Any knowledge of a reserve hooker that can throw straight?

Good luck with that search! All teams seem to have the same problem.

-
Looking forward to seeing that midfield
-
Be good to watch Bower to see his development with this opportunity as a starter after time in AB camp and a big offseason/preseason.
-
@duluth as much as JG could end up being a vg 12, right now, 13 is where he should be playing.

Gatland at 10 and Wainui at 13 again is nuts considering how shit they were. No Lowe who was actually a bright spark last week. We're fucked, we're so fucked.

haha this will suck. i ain't watching
-
McMillan's selections are all over the place. He's obviously got a hard-on for Wainui at centre.
Looking forward to seeing how Lord goes. There seems to be a "plan" to give most of the squad a game over the first few rounds. With K Boshier on the bench I think Jacobson will move into no.7.
