Chiefs v Blues (27 March 2021)

Ofa T needs to tighten up his technique. Too many cards.
Would like to see Nock and Faiane starting. Maybe a different lock at 5. Robinson at 6, with A Ioane at 8 is worth a look.
Good to see Papalii has recovered.

Parker covering lock says it all. Don't see the Chiefs winning this.
-
That’s a very strong Blues team IMO
Battle of the 7s is going to be titanic. Both solid hitters.
Getting rid of Ruru may mean that his limitations are being recognised as holding back the attack. Plummer gives them a bit more game management ability.
Chiefs better hope on not having many scrums in the last 20 minutes.
Really doubting my Chiefs optimism now.Edit: especially after seeing the team.
(I typed the post then got distracted ) -
Dalton and Ofa are pretty tall, not sure Ofa will ever quite fix his tackling technique or judgement (it's been a few years now) and I wonder how Dalton can scramble and lower his body given his height and speed-is he a natural 7 or a 6/8 that covers? (Actually, is he a potential 8? too many in that position at the Blues?)
-
A better Blues lineup.
Ruru seems to be held to a different standard to Nock which is annoying.

the problem with Christie is that both he and Black aren't big defenders. Playing those two means you need a solid 12 and a big loose unit.
Hope they step up. Blues by a THOWSAND
-
Why is it that Leon MacDonald doesn't seem to rate Nock?
-
@kiwimurph Especially after Ruru giving away two really dumb, and ineffectual, penalties last game.
-
@yeetyaah How typical. Blues at full strength bar Eklund while Chiefs dropping like nine pins.
-
@tim not to mention Ruru's poor service which really held the Blues attack back on the weekend.

Dalton has the running lines and anticipation of a 7. Jackling is getting to be a rare part of the game now and he can be effective in that regard in the situations that it can happen.
Stopping attacks before the gain line is way more important under the current game management. Once a team gets a roll on they are difficult to legally stop and you need to harass them into an error. -
@tim damn, how long since we were favourites for an away game?
-
Is the game the battle for one finals spot if you assume the Crusaders are one finalists.
-
@chris don't forget the Highlanders
-
Surely Sowakula covers lock? He's done it before and he's taller than Parker.

If they do the job against the Canes then yep for sure they are a chance too.

How you feeling here @Yeetyaah being a staunch Chiefs fan you in with a chance ? I reckon you are a rough chance in this game at home.
-
@kiwimurph I wouldn’t count out the Canes either if they manage to pip the Landers tomorrow night.
-
@canes4life My worry with the Canes is they might have dug themselves too much of a hole with 3 games dropped already and still have to play Blues away and Crusaders again after this weekend. All without a first five.
-
@kiwimurph yeah your probably right. Last week was a must win and they might have too much to bite off from here. I guess the important thing is they build combinations and get some confidence going into the Aus comp and into next year.
-
@chris haha I already said above that I'm not confident looking at that team.

I could see an upset.
-
I am pretty confused how Ofa got off his ban though. Reckless dive ending in a shoulder to the face. He's been banned before for the same thing so I dunno how he got off it.
-
@chris you'd be the only one. I mean we have confidence and momentum (hopefully) after the win but when I see Parker covering lock and Tupaea still starting in the midfield it's hard to look past it.

See below
It is understood the Blues presented detailed video evidence showing Tu’ungafasi had entered through the correct channel, had lowered his body, was never off his feet and his first contact had been arm on shoulder.
-
@chris Same tbh. A real banana skin game for the blues here coming off a loss where as the Chiefs are flying high off a win. We lose this and could be in a bit of bother.
-
Completely forgot Lord was injured too. So we are down to playing loose forwards in the second row, and not particularly tall ones at that.
Surely we can call up Pierce as an injury replacement if the Blues aren't using him.

Fully contracted players cannot be called up by other franchises.
-
-
@stargazer
Wasn't serious, just pointing out that Pierce is carrying tackle bags and we have 3 injured locks. -
Cruel of the Chiefs instagram to show us belting 8 colours of shit out of the Blues in 2009
The names in that Chiefs team...
