The Trans Tasman Rugby War

Think this is needing it's own thread, and cold just as easily go into 'Politics.
Seems Rugby Australia are desparate to destroy any relationship between the organisations.
A number of articles like the following painting NZR as the baddies have been popping up across various media outlets recently. (I'll discount Rennie's comments whinging his wagons into a circle, as that's just gamesmanship for the team,)
Am not sure of their end game here. Public opinion will probably be divided by the Ta$man and will have little or no bearing on any resolution, so why air the dirty laundry in public, especially when the latest stoush about Perth clearly demonstrated responsibility lay firmly with RA.
The previous Super Rugby ... errm ... 'negotiations' were an NZR balls up for sure, but who is making the public outcry and why?
One other quick question: (ignoring 2003 where we got what we deserved) what loyalty does NZR owe Australia over RWC voting? Who did the dingos vote for in 2011?
-
Not sure it means anything much, but I went to one of those pre-bled rugby lunches just after McLennan took over, and he spoke. He came across as really antagonistic, combative, everything he said was presented as Australia v the world and particularly NZ. Was quite jarring actually.

Playing to the crowd, deflecting blame

He and Marinos are coming across that way, bad mouthing us in the media. Robinson initially appeared weak by not stating his counterview in the media, but as it turned out he was the only one behaving with class as the truth came out over Perth

"And perhaps on the field, that’s currently a fair cop"
Perhaps lol. What a clown.
I hope we give them an absolute towelling tomorrow.
As others have already mentioned but it bears repeating. ARU didn't vote for NZ in 2011 — well after we had built bridges over 2003. What goes around comes around.

The more I think about it I think RA is trying to fire up the few rugby fans they have left, trying to build some passion by stoking some teams Ta$man hate…because we’re the only ones they play often

That would be fine if they could walk the walk.

@booboo I dare you to post this on GAGR as a Kiwi. 100 pages I reckon
of vitriol. Blaming NZR for not propping them up by letting ABs play for Australian teams etc. Believing they prop NZ rugby up with SR TV money without an awareness of how big the AB sponsorship deals are.
Due to years of financial and structural mis-management, sadly imo they look seriously f*cked
- Running out of money, relying on loans from World Rugby
- Declining grass-root rugby, given competition from League and Aussie Rules
- Pro talent increasingly looking overseas, degrading their talent base, international ranking etc
Basically I feel they are desperate because without huge cash windfalls from hosting a RWC and the next Lions series it's hard to see how they can survive in their current form.
Twiggy? Venture Capital? In both cases, they cede significant control.I think they are lashing out because they really don't know how to turn an ever-worsening situation around ... arguments and noise can help distract from people seeing all this.

The reality is we need to determine if we should continue to invest in keeping Australia as a Tier 1 nation.

we damn well should. They need some success, and to grow the damn game, and share some broadcasting dollars. We cannot do this by ourselves

I hate to sound like @Derpus but what success is going to come from this? 19 years and counting for the Bled. Disastrous SR. Audiences switching off because they keep getting flogged = what revenue?
-
@antipodean no. You need to determine whether you can go it alone.
Because if you cant you are as fucked as rugby in Australia is. You gunna pull a competitive comp out of your arse with Japan and the US? yeah fucking right.

I'm starting to believe it would be almost as competitive, but with more money.
I also think the diaspora over here would watch NZ rugby anyway.
-
@antipodean dreaming. Japan might be able to cobble together competitive sides but that involves them throwing money you dont have at your players.
Not sure thats the outcome you are looking for.

You didn't read my previous post correctly., Same uncompetitive teams, more money.
