  • The Jaguares have a new head coach: former Argentina international Gonzalo Quesada

  • A couple of weeks in Auckland should remove all traces of integrity from his system then he can poach away.

  • Leon MacDonald's soon to be ex boss, begs him to have no integrity and half arse it at his new job

  • @duluth he'd not be doing his Blues job properly if he identified players in the Crusaders academy that would fill gaps at the Blues and chose to do nothing.

Would be interesting to know if there is anything in his contract about ip and intelligence gained through his role and how he can use it. Would be bloody hard to prove that it was using that intel and not just good scouting though (assuming such a clause did exist).

You'd figure that given the relative performances of the two franchises the crusaders would have their pick of the academy though, maybe only a promise of a starting position would be the blues trump card.

  • @cyclops not to mention the IP is ultimately owned by NZR...

  • ....meanwhile Auckland (who part own the Blues) loan Tasman (Crusaders partners) a promising young player who played for the Blues this year....

  • I only looked over the Tasman/MacDonald poaching article quickly, but to me it read more like they had most of their players contracted, and were confident that MacDonald would not try to get players to break contracts, or leave Tasman for Auckland even if they joined the Blues?

  • @kiwimurph and the next part of the story will probably read something like this, has an outstanding season for Tasman, and then signs with the Saders and Tasman.
Think I have read this script before.

Jordie has never played first 5 in his life, only against the lions for the canes for about 20 minutes

And did a better job in that 20 minutes than any of the other “prospects” floating around.

Agree. He was good enough that he looked a serious option as a first. My view is he should focus on FB and a backup 1st not center. Although unfortunately the current Canes coaches are not good at seeing outside of the box. Plumtree was never more than a very good (or even great) plodder forward coach who I still doubt will ever win anything as a head coach. In part because he can't see outside of his simple black and white world.

  • Hurricanes coach John Plumtree will play Vaea Fifita at 6 if he's good enough

Fifita needs to find a coach who rates him. As its clear that Plumtree doesn't. Maybe he will have more luck at the Chiefs. But he needs to find a coach who will give him a run at 6 at super level

And Plumtree should have just keep his mouth shut rather than rubbishing a hurt player in the media. Its not as if be won't have other options. But Plumtree does like the workhorse type players and Fifita doesn't really fit. So hes just being honest

I worry for the future of the Canes. We did better re AB selection with useless Hammett as coach. And if top players know there AB chances are not good with one team they will just sign elsewhere if wanted. Although with Hansen as head coach the Crusaders are clearly the place to be. And the Highlanders next.

  • @winger where does he rubbish him?

  • @bones

saying "if he's good enough". Its saying straight out he doesn't think hes good enough now as a 6. Fifita needs to find a team and coach who rates him as a 6 not a lock. Or move overseas and rake in the big money. As an exciting (not workhorse) 6 who can cover lock if required. Let Plumtree have his team of plodder forwards with a limited, basic attacking game plan to see it goes

  • @bones In @Winger's head. 😀

    No it's not.

Plumtree likes plodder forwards and a very basic (boring) game plan. Fifita doesn't fit. And its one reason why hes never won anything as a head coach. He's done well but always fails to finish it off.

    Yes he has.

I never thought the Currie Cup was a real competition either.
