Christmas!21

Merry Ho Ho Hos y'all.
I refuse to say "Happy Holidays" in the hope it offends. Somehow think it won't.
Wassup this Yuletide, given it's like next week?
After two years of big trips away we're staying close-ish this year.
Couple of days over on Fraser over Xmas itself .
Beats last year's epic road trip.
Taking 3 weeks from Friday (17th) and going to slash and burn the garden (Mrs Boo working between Xmas and NY. She's booked breakdown for late Jan when Ms. Boo Jr heads Sunny Coast wise for Uni).
Anyway, hope y'alls smash the egg nog and the good whiskey, and you have much arguments with your SJW sisters in law.
Merry birth of our saviour ...

Just Mrs Meldrew & me this year. And a 21 yr-old Barossa Shiraz to go with the meal
Merry Christmas from the Meldrew's.....
-
@victor-meldrew Just the two of you? Sounds like you have it cracked mate. At the Cato household it really ought to have been simple, just Mr & Mrs Cato plus the two young men-sahibs and their respective gentlemen friends and lastly the freeloader from across the road.
Simple? Bollocks it is. Every single one of them apart from Mrs C has been a yes/no/maybe at one time or another. All at different times. Anyway, we are now 6 for Christmas including the freeloader.
The wine choice has become something of a compromise as Mrs Cato keeps deciding that she doesn't like certain wines, this of course keeps changing. So whilst I was hoping to hoe into a bottle or two of decent claret, I am forced into opening the nicely maturing Gevrey Chambertin, which I was hoping to keep for a little longer.
Oh and I'm making them all eat sprouts.

We normally have big family Christmases, 12 people or so, but this year we really want a break from family as Mrs M has had a rough time with her parents health and her Father's death. Back to normal over New Year when we have 8 people staying with us.
It's great you're having your neighbour over, though. Real spirit of Christmas, that sort of thing.
Oh and I'm making them all eat sprouts.

I have little choice in the matter.

@sparky You could argue they never have
-
So as usual I have Ms DM's mob over. Two new grandchildren this year. One of the Mum's has severe post natal depression. All three of her kids have had a fight with 'er indoors this week. Plus both her parents died this year.
Have I ever mentioned I hate Xmas.
Cooking a 5 bone standing rib on the BBQ - cooked a gammon last weekend and will glaze it once beef is out.
Have a half case of 2003 Stonyridge LaRose which I aim to sample the first of (and maybe the second).
Roll on Boxing Day.
Hope all you buggers get what you want - not what you deserve
-
@dogmeat at least the food and wine sounds like it will be good mate
-
Merry Xmas everyone.
Managed to escape Auckland, now have a 6hour drive ahead to get to in the in laws.
Once there I have a bottle of whiskey to drain while the kids go off and parent themselves.
It’s 8.00am and it feels like 30 degrees.
-
With no usual visitors from Melbourne to stay over Xmas it will be more quiet.... But the eating starts in earnest tonight, pork belly and picanha on the bbq, then turkey at the in laws tomorrow. Friends for another BBQ on Boxing day, and a NY22 bbq turkey on the 31st. I think I will get a few hand made vodka martinis in there as well.
Merry Xmas virtual Polish family 🥰

Reminds me of my childhood Christmases in Lower Hutt - and my parents arguing about the best way to keep the Lamingtons fresh when we hit the beach at Days Bay on Boxing Day.

Good old Days Bay. Feed the ducks, fish off the wharf,
go for a swim and play real lawn tennis. Great days -
Xmas morning at home with the kids and pressies followed by a swim at the beach. Then lunch with Mrs Voodoos family, always pretty good fun, will be 30+ ppl, kids have a great time with their cousins.
Afternoon nap, leftovers for dinner.
Happy Christmas Ferners!
-
We've decided to buck tradition of going to my parents or brothers place (or our place) and we are all going to the beach for a BBQ.
With temps forecast high 20s (which usually means +3 or 4 deg) being at the beach will be sweet
-
Going to the exes for Xmas morning to watch the kids unwrap pressies then Waikanae to my godmothers. No spare beds but I just found out that there’s free trains so that means that I can drink as much as I want unlike a couple of years back when I had to get onto the black coffees to ensure I didn’t fall victim to a bored cop wanting to bust someone for DIC.
Happy holidays all

Merry Christmas. I hope there isn't too much covid talk during your family gatherings

Merry Christmas bro! Are you travelling North or South?
We are just hooching around the farm and at the races. @Smudge is coming for a visit one night which will be cool.

Are you staying put or getting away?

@duluth Powerpoint presentation locked and loaded to crush any dissent.

Staying in Auckland. Too much other stuff going on, we have to make use of our time off. Improving the apartment before renting it out, looking for a house etc
-
Cooking for 10 tomorrow. Keeping it simple with roast beef. Nephews are going fishing today, so hopefully will have some sashimi.

That makes perfect sense.

We are staying in Auckland this year. Our 1 year old was booked for some minor surgery yesterday, but then he and his 3 year old brother got sick, so it was cancelled and we all had to get bloody Covid tests. Results negative so far, but 2 sick little people is not ideal lol.
Should be a pretty relaxing Christmas though. The wife is cooking up a big seafood feed for Christmas Eve, then I'll do the ham and a lamb roast tomorrow. We'll do presents in the morning then probably hit the beach depending on the little ones, drink and eat plenty. Keeping it simple.
Merry Christmas all. Thanks for all of the great yarns this year, it's been another strange one but this place has been awesome to come and try and make sense of some of the fucking insane shit like Foster actually being head coach of the ABs.

Merry Xmas virtual Polish family
lol i actually have Wigilia (Polish Christmas) starting in approx 9 hours. It sorta sets everything up, enormous amounts of food and booze and the first presents on Christmas eve.
Tomorrow as always at our place. I've scheduled christmas dinner for lunch so i don't have to cook pissed. Mrs Mariner's family over as always, plus a couple of friends who can't get to their family this year. Be a full house and a lot of fun
Plan is too much food, too much booze, some cricket and the pool. It'll be 35 degrees tomorrow so the beers will evaporate.
Merry christmas every one. Apologies for my grumpyness for the year. I honestly hope you all thoroughly enjoy your holiday period.

-
@tim so that's what you look like!
-
@taniwharugby Certainly after a dozen!
-
Merry Christmas all! Lots planned for the Rage whanau. Xmas eve Concert over zoom to the family in NZ, kids so excited.
Next day Wifes sister and family over. Going for a drive early doors as roads will be dead then commence the fun.
Gravalax, pigs, prawns, starters …. Full Xmas feast later on.
Summer ale, guiness, whispering angel and a mystery Bordeaux (2003 I think) to keep hydrated.
Enjoy all!
-
Merry Xmas to you all. My sister and kids decided against coming up to the unvaccinated winterless North. So it's just us.
But I'm obviously on Santa's naughty list as I have vertigo since last night. I'm sick as a dog, and can't drink. Fuck it!
-
Got my bike back from the workshop yesterday afternoon...
So 25th-Dec - I'm plotting a full day's riding, ending in Taranaki at grandfather's place, who ain't doing well.
And reading this thread, with the mentions of delicious food and drink - particularly drink - I suddenly realised I'm going to spend all day riding, then get to my destination - without being able to buy any delicious delicious beer. I'm going to have to pretend to be pleased to accept a Speights Dark, or Tui.
Have I mentioned previously "Fuck Tui" ?
I might grab a bottle of whisky this afternoon, tuck it in the backpack, so at least there's something delicious, if not necessarily exactly refreshing.
Christmas lunch is looking like a BP pie. -
Well we can't get to our family, but we can get to friends. Friend is also a chef. Day will start with obligatory case of champagne and seafood from about 11 and then move to massive glazed ham, salads and bbq and whiskey later. Oh and for @Duluth a four pillars Christmas gin to go with their gin Christmas pudding.
If I don't drown in their swim spa due to obscene drunkeness then the stolen kiddie floaties will have done their job. Mrs Imports will doing her best to compete although I am sure I will last a few more hours than her, or so says the lazy $50 we have on itBets on Polly Grey @Hooroo and another mates horse Ranges at Randwick go on today.. as may lose phone tomorrow
boxing day will be massive hangover day..thank f&*k no one driving
merry xmas everyone
