Who was the best Open Side.

Note to Ferners from the southern parts of Africa: this is the open side flanker, please make allowance for your messed up system of playing a 6 in 7, and 7 in 6, because you're all at 6s and 7s, and nominate PSDT in the Blind Side thread.

      Please nominate, and say why.

Refer rules in Sports Talk forum.

      Vote above for nominees below.

Surname First Name Country Pros Cons
CURRY Tom ENG nearly as good as Hoopah! didn’t play enough openside
HOOPER Michael AUS The little engine that could; breakdown menace, carts the ball up, makes a million tackles; The most important player to his team in World Rugby; The player everyone else seems to think Ardie Savea is; back to best this year; was outstanding in every appearance; consistently led from the front; a true leader; consistently bloody good all year; 'energiser bunny'; no bad perfromances ugly
PAPALII Dalton NZL Improved a lot in the last couple of years; hard worker; latest in a long line of superb NZ 7s
SAVEA Ardie NZL Rocked at 7 not Hoopah!; didn’t play a lot at 7

Yeah I think Hooper shades it for me, much as I dislike the ugly fucker. Curry is close IMO and I know that may raise a few eyebrows, but he was very important for both England and the Lions. It might have helped his case a bit more if Eddie had consistently picked him at 7.

Hooper was back to his best this year and was outstanding in each of his appearances. Consistently led from the front. A true leader.

I would have to say Hooper, consistently bloody good all year. The best example of the 'energiser bunny' in test rugby this year. Didn't put in a poor perfromance that I saw.
