I’ll reply by asking why is it sad? The guy was 94, it’s a fate that awaits us all.

Because the death of someone I respect I find sad. Even if it is inevitable

Some inevitable celebrity deaths will hit me harder than some family personally. There’s any number of music, sports and movie stars getting longer in the tooth and it’ll be very sad when they pass.

Great actor, great innings

Meatloaf!!!! Goooooone
-
Ah Meatloaf. The artist that most people are embarrassed to admit they are a fan of.
I dig him.
Him & Steinman are unequivocally one of, if not, the best big rock song writers of all time. You'll struggle to find anyone on the planet that hasn't wondered if they would do that.

Leg End
Surprsingly good acting chops too
-
A mate of mine knew someone who met Meatloaf at a celebrity golf tournament. Everyone was lined up to meet him and this bloke was so starstruck he blurted out ‘pleased to meet you Mr Loaf’
Not sure how he reacted to that, I must message and ask.
Whether you liked it or not Meatloaf was the staple soundtrack of every single Paraparaumu party I attended in the 90s. I’m sure he’ll be blaring up there now for weeks on end.

Less than a year after Jim Steinman died. RIP.

Not embarrassed, he was too much fun.
Am sad now.

Always thought this was 'When Rock and Roll Dreams Come True'. Learn something every day. Should be a thread for it.

My sister and I are both fans, especially of his work with Steinman which produced some all time classic rock songs.

Hah. Just watched 'Paradise By The Dashboard Light'. Need to play it for Ms.18 ...
Fun and informative...
-
This one hits me harder than Mr Loaf to be honest, great little role in Coming to America
-
-
One of my first LPs I owned was Bat out of Hell. Remember some great car singalongs with mates to Paradise by the Dashboard Light
-
@nevorian was it that cool one with the picture on the vinyl? That blew our minds way back then🙂

And if you want some more trivia, Scott Ian from Anthrax is Meat Loaf's son-in-law.
I was today years old when I discovered this. Xmas singalongs woulda been fun.

@nzbloke Really surprised he made it this far TBH.
Worst concert I ever attended was Meatloaf. About a decade ago. Voice had gone and he was basically an invalid even then.
Great back catalogue though and seemed like a good fluffybunny
-
Barry Cryer. Comic genius.

True, makes you wonder how a fair few of the older rockers are still alive with all the drugs they've taken over the years... not good when a great rocker like him keeps performing when he was well past his best, they spoil their reputation a bit, yeah, he did seem like a top bloke.

Very sad... shows you how talented he was as a writer having created jokes for the Two Ronnies, they were outstanding comedians too.
-
About Barry Cryer, from Michael Palin's Facebook page
-
Barry Cryer, only 86, was my first thought. Guys like him seemed really old when I watched them on the tele.
Then I walk past a mirror and go "oh shit, that's right..."
Any of you other "not young" blokes still see the world through 18-24 year old eyeballs?
Or is it simply that I've mixed up Barry and Max😒

He was a regular for decades on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue - one of the funniest shows you will ever hear - which involved a lot of improvisation. He was doing the improv stuff years before the likes of Steve Carell or Paul Merton made it became popular.
-
-
@victor-meldrew nice mate.
I remember an old timer years ago telling me "you know you're old when All Blacks and cops look like kids"
I think we're well past that transition 🙂
BTW, I've gone from cringing to proudly marvelling. I mean, we made it this far, didn't we...

Typical Barry Cryer:
"A man drives down a country lane and accidentally runs over a cockerel. He goes to the farmhouse and knocks on the door.
A woman opens and the man says, “I appear to have killed your cockerel. I’d like to replace him.”
The woman replies: “Please yourself, the hens are round the back."'

I think we're well past that transition 🙂For me it when Steve Hansen started to look young-ish
Christ you must be 200 years old
