The campaign against Joe Rogan's podcast

Will be really interesting to see how this unfolds with Spotify. So far I think they've handled it absolutely perfect
- Oblige Young & Mitchell and remove their music
- Leave Rogan to make his own statement
- Completely ignore everything from their worst business investment ever, Archewell
If they maintain this line I'll be incredibly impressed and perhaps starting to think that corporates are finally understanding that get woke go broke is a saying for a reason.

That James Blunt is just as bad as Harry and Meghan…
He's a funny guy
New songs? He's bluffing. All his songs are highly derivative. And if they aren't, they sure sound like they are.

"Liberals" like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell have now become wannabe suppressors of free speech. Hilarious.
Nope. He can still talk. They're using their free rights to move their songs to another distributor.

Interestingly, the UK (and the EU, I think) are looking at legislation to stop commercial interests and coercion being used to curtail freedom of expression/speech.
Anyway, I think this is less to do with issues of freedom of speech and allegedly fighting disinformation but more about losing money if people switched off Spotify as they disagreed with Rogan's podcast.
If they were genuine, Mitchell & Young would have threatened to pull their stuff when Clapton did his anti-vax thing.

Arguable. If Young & Mitchell had simply moved their music then so be it, that's expressing your right.
From what I've read Young said it's me or Rogan - up to you. That's a bit different and could well be viewed as attempt to suppress speech.
Never understood why artists are prepared to be paid such a pittance myself. Would be pretty hurtful to see them pay Archewell / Rogan millions whilst paying the artists of the music fuck all.

He wanted Rogan kicked off Spotify for Rogan hosting views contrary to the mainstream?
What a sad old man he has become.
Just a standard boring authoritarian trying to use his clout to bully others.
Neil Young, more like Neil Old. -

Yup. But he still might. I like his sense of humour but he does have an annoying voice (like he admits on twitter)..

I agree it is a grey area and I'm still forming my own opinion but I don't see Young as having monopoly/cartel level power, to this Spotify generation/s.

Neil Young, more like Neil Old.If we aren't free to become sad old men then cancel culture the Grumpy Old Man thread! And the fate of the Fern hangs by a thread.
-
It's a classic case of "don't like what I don't like". Unsurprising hypocrisy from a bloke that blamed "faggots" (his word) for AIDS in the 80s, complained about artists making money and yet he sold half his catalogue for $50 million.
And this is Joni Mitchell in blackface.
Tells you something about people who support them over Joe.

Oh NO!!!
Some rockstar sang about drugs in a song.
Another rapper didn't respect women in his lyrics.
Another female popstar was singing about sex related topics in an explicit manner.
BAN THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Yes, Dick Cheney’s one-percent doctrine. “Could.”

James Blunt is a considerably better comedian than he is a musician. Certainly not too late to change careers.
-
Neil Young had polio - probably feels pretty strongly about vaccines because of it.

Geez, why'd you have to single me out like that? Harsh.
-
Should we cut out the middlemen and listen to the primary contributor?
what, about this, is unreasonable?
-
I'm starting to think if you look under every controversy rock you find a venture capital firm.
Young sold half his music to hipgnosis for 50 million. What chance that hypocritical Neil is a puppet with strings being pulled by others?
Wouldn't be the first celebrity or entertainer serving his master, and looking like a pratt in the process.
Carlos Blackstone, remember the name 🙂

Yep. Hi anti-vax songs with Van Morrison are on Spotify.

@victor-meldrew he was also on this podcast in November 21
-
Something I heard the other day, which may be complete BS, was that Rogan's audience approximately halved when he went exclusively on Spotify, so kicking him off might increase his the size of his platform.
Can't see that trying to de-platform him that way would have any effect that advocates hope for.

Lose half your audience, gain 100mill.
Not exactly a tough decision!!

@majorrage Yep, definitely better conversion rates ...
BTW, podcasts are surely due for a regulatory smackdown soon. Cum Town and Legion of Skanks can't be advertising pharmaceuticals and dubiously legal drugs forever ...

I actually don't listen to podcasts. Never really had the desire to listen to other people speak / share their views for any longer time than your average TV interview of 5-10 mins. I've made two exceptions for this
-
Rogan with Lance Armstrong. Found this very compelling as Rogan gave him the time of day & almost supported Armstrong in all he did to understand his thought process.
-
Malcolm Gladwell on the Toyota stuck accelerator scandal. Had to as we had a huge position in Toyota at work so needed to understand it more.
It's not for me.
-
-
I don't listen to any "serious" or popular non-fiction/interview podcasts. They seem incredibly boring and inefficient to me. I only want entertainment.
I do listen to quite a lot of comedy podcasts, and some entertaining ones about movies or music. Podcasts are probably the best form of comedy now, especially mean spirited material.
Rogan's three hour boredom-fests are insufferably dull to me, and he has some absolute retards on.
-
@tim his mma podcasts are pretty good.
Some guests do better than others.
I think like every person he has succumbed to talking about covid too much, so hard not too when your opposed to so much going on.
His position is basically get the population healthy and dont force vaccines on people. With a liberal dose of ivermectin is great.
Russel brands video is great.
