I wonder if Dermody intended this comment about J Ioane to sound as bitchy as it did?
"He looks like he’s changed. He’s gone up there and he looks really fit."
-
The 23 for the Chiefs is pretty unpredictable.
How many ABs will come straight in to start and how many from the bench?
9/10? If Weber starts with Ioane dowe see the Ratima Gatland combo on the bench or do the mix things up?Midfield and second row very dependant on who jumps in.
-
McMillan is certainly going to have to juggle a few positions, lock especially. If both BBBR and Vaa'i are restricted to 40 mins I suppose one could start and be replaced by the other at HT. But who is other the lock who would likely play 80 mins? Lord is the AB so would be favoured but might be on time-restrictions too. So it could be Ah Kuoi or McWhannell. I've got no idea which way he'll go.
MP is next week so he could rotate a few players.

I didn't realise that there were time restrictions.
I suppose they have done that in previous years but isn't it x amount over y weeks or something? -

I bet there's plenty of flexibility around that.
Last year there was guidelines published about the number of mins over x weeks but the Blues clearly didn't follow those with Tuipulotu (it was more of a negotiation with the AB powers on a case by case basis)

I suppose they have done that in previous years but isn't it x amount over y weeks or something? As @Duluth says, there is the 40-60-80 min return-to-play protocol, which is a NZRPA thing. The only ABs involved in the game of 3 halves were Cane, Ta’avao, Lord and Tupaea.

Does that count as their 40 then?
If so, that tips the hand being played.
-
@crucial I believe so. Robertson said as much for his ABs that played the Canes last week.

I was just wondering that. He certainly threw a few out for a 40 minute runaround without much effort .

So who is going to run out for the Chiefs on Saturday?
Blues fans would have had a full discussion of 23s by now, along with some hot tips from one or two posters.
Get on it.

Cricket season. We don't care yet. Super Rugby starts in April/May
-
@hooroo Unlikely, you don't start watching until the Rugby Championship starts.

My care factor is close to zero in summer.
I have a vague interest in who is in the squad but if I end up watching the game this weekend I will surprise myself. Is it Saturday night?

Strong team on paper.
Could even look stronger than the Chiefs depending on how ABs are reintroduced.Where's Connor G-B at? Just no room in the 23 or is he still not ready for play?
-
Ive been wondering the same thing, after a bit of a break out season last year i would have thought a bit more press
Timu is the only one im a little worried about, when ive seen him for otago it has mainly been midfield so now worried we're a bit light on left wingers
Other than that pretty much full strength, glad Paea seems to have shaken off the arm injury
-
Yeah surprisingly happy with that team, strong bench!
-
@kiwiwomble Both Fijians are normally left wingers. Dawai played in the no.11 jersey for Waikato last season.
-
@bovidae ....ok, maybe we're light on wingers in general then if we're having to swing left wingers to the right and play a midfielder (i know they list him as an outside) on the left. I do wish we'd picked up Freedom, at best he's a clinical finisher and at worst he has some things to work on positionally but was looking solid

It'll be interesting to see if Dawai has tightened up his defence. He missed a lot of tackles in the NPC

Connor G-B has been out for a while with a broken wrist. Expected back soon.
-
@canes4life yeah, he did it in April last year, seems like a long recovery

Yeah, still very raw but has the potential to be a weapon. I'm happy if he misses a few more tackles on Sat.
-
@kiwiwomble must have been quite a break for that stint on the sideline.

@duluth interesting to have the co-captain on the bench...or maybe they are planning on subbing Cane earlyish, knowing they can bring Webber on?
-
@taniwharugby looks like maybe their hand is forced around return to play protocols. Healthy bench though.
-

We're going to have similar situations this year, Fakatava is going to be starting games and at very least going to coming on for smith, worked ok when smith was a CC but will be interesting who takes charge when hes off
-
@arhs ah true, hadnt thought about that aspect!
-
Well done if anyone picked that Chiefs team.
Boshier on the bench to replace Cane or Jacobson. I still want Finau in the 23.
-
@duluth said in Chiefs v Highlanders:
That’s an annoyingly shit graphics layout!
As an aside, are we going to put a sweepstake on how many ABs exceed their limit this weekend?
-
@arhs said in Chiefs v Highlanders:

Yeah, good idea to be able to interchange the experience and captaincy.
There are some ABs still missing though which slows down their participation in future matches if they still have to be introduced slowly.
Compared to the Landers that is a team that will have to play like a team (if you get what I mean). That is the Chiefs current style though so may work out OK
-
I would expect quite a few changes for the next game.
For those who didn't read the full article:
Unavailable for selection:
Anton Lienert-Brown, Aidan Ross, Gideon Wrampling, Kaleb Trask, Mitch Brown, Reuben O’Neill, Simon Parker, Tupou Vaa’i -
@bovidae disappointing to see chiefs so below strength when highlanders so close to full strength at home.
