6N 2022 : England v Wales

Correct call on Faletau. Either starts or doesn't make the 23.
I would have had Wainwright on the bench instead of Morgan.
Nothing against Cuthbert - he had a great game against Scotland - but by dropping LRZ Pivac has picked a team not to lose rather than a team to win.
Anscombe very lucky to make the bench. Would have gone with Sheedy.
England by 11-15
-
@mikethesnow geez once George comes on, that's a heck of a hateable front row.
-
This will be a close one I feel. No obvious advantages man for man. Home advantage to be the decider I think, so England to squeak it.
-
That's a much better England team, with some go forward in the backs, and a nine that can actually generate fast ball, Young's is awful. England will win it, home game, should be a good
-
Well the great messiah is broken. Again.

that is not how you treat the best #8 to ever play the game

Toby wasn't that good 5 years ago.

When the team list was out I resisted making a glib comment about “how long will Tuilagi last?”
Seems the answer was “not long at all”How many years has Eddie had a makeshift centre combo while hoping for a long run from Manu?
-
Not just Eddie either. Both Johnson and Lancaster would move heaven and earth to fit him in. I read today that since his debut he has missed 80 tests through injury. But still is more or less the first name on the team sheet.

Definition of madness
Or desperation

I guess when you award an illegal overstayer citizenship specifically so they can play for your rugby team then if he's available he has to play.

Cutting!
-
Come on boys
Don’t go down as dumbly as Scotland
-
FFS
Kick the fucking thing dead

Fuck we’re thick as shit
-
It’s amazing we can still run the amount of times we’ve shot ourselves in the foot
England 9-0 Wales
31 long fucking minutes gone -
Not seen much but Smith is the real deal.
-
How the fuck we’re only 12-0 down at the half with Liam Williams in the bin for 10 mins says more about England than us.
France would be 30 points clear by now
England 12-0 Wales
Halftime -
Shit line out throw from Elias
Again
But it looked like Beard was hip checked out
Great finish from Dombrandt
England 17-0 Wales
46 mins -
Smith looks really good at 10. Reminds me of Carter the way he plays flat at the line.
-
Fantastic pressure from Wales
Sublime pass from Tomos Williams to put Adams in
England 17-5 Wales
55 mins -
All Wales at the moment
Tompkins in
England 17-12 Wales
62 minsDespite how shit and stupid we’ve been, England are there for the taking
Crazy
-
Fantastic pressure kick from Smith after dumb Welsh play
England 20-12 Wales
68 mins -
Another corking kick from Smith after stupid play from Beard
England 23-12 Wales
72 mins -
Hardy in
England 23-19 Wales
Full timeWales didn’t deserve to win despite scoring three tries to one
Shit set play when it mattered
Shit ball retention and ruck protection when it matteredEngland do not look like they can score a try in the backs despite having so much quick, go forward ball
Real worry for Eddie
-
Ref didn’t ref the breakdown very well. Don’t think cuthbert was given the chance to release when he was penalised for holding on for example.
-
-
I only watched the last 15 mins. The ref bottled it by not giving Lawes a YC. As we saw last year the NH refs are soft on deliberate knock-ons.

He reminded me of a student teacher trying to impose his authority on an unruly classroom.
-
England have all the tools to be really good but keep finding new and inventive ways to hamstring themselves.
Plenty of fight from Wales. Cuthbert was really good!
I think Courtney Lawes is my favourite player right now.
-
My takes after late watch
- Neither attack was anything but pedestrian. Foster's looks better
- Marcus Smith is overrated, need be good at sevens.
- Tomos pass for the first Welsh try was pure sex
Ireland and France are much better sides

For an ex-player, Adamson is a complete fucking peasant when it comes to refereeing.

I think @barbarian said it best after ?Boks v ABs in Townsville? - some of these UK refs have a massive boner for penalising the attacking side at the ruck

I think he's just seen as The Second Coming because he's not boring like many of their 10s. He's got the core skills and ambition to be good, but yeah for now he's talked up far now than he deserves.
How he got MOTM over Cuthbert or itoje I'll never know
-
@nta yeah he's certainly not bad. But all his faffing around just gives defences time to organize. He did make one break, but that's it for all his sideways running and goose steps. He didn't really steer his team at all, their attack was pathetic. Place kicked well enough but otherwise, not that great
-

They managed to set up 3 excellent forward runs in a row at one stage - fast rucks and crisp delivery, but it came to nothing once the ball went wide.

He missed a sitter from almost in front. I don't know much about goal kicking, but he tilts the ball to the right on the tee, and misses to the right a bit. 🤷♂️
-
Smith is without doubt very good but still a work in progress. It doesn’t help that with England his midfield partners and thus game plan are ever changing. The stability he has with his centres for Harlequins allows him a lot more opportunity. Mind you a lot of that is down to Esterhuizen as his bail out option.
But yes, the constant frothing at the mouth from the press and pundits is tiresome - and not yet warranted. Mind you if you watched the France v Scotland game there was a masterclass in bigging up a player on one performance. The Scottish 7 had a good game but I really expected the comms pundit to pop out for a bit of Willising every five minutes.
