The FPC draw has been released.

      Media release: https://www.provincial.rugby/news/bunnings-warehouse-npc-fpc-and-heartland-championship-2022-draws-announced/

      Draw: https://www.provincial.rugby/farah-palmer-cup/fixtures-and-results/

The first round is a Premiership only round due to the difference in numbers of teams in both divisions.
There are no cross-over games in the FPC; possibly due to the need for a short season before the World Cup.

      Premiership:
Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Canterbury, Counties Manukau, Manawatū (promoted from Championship in 2021), Waikato and Wellington

      Championship:
Hawke's Bay, North Harbour, Northland, Otago (relegated from Premiership in 2021), Taranaki, Tasman

          Was announced last week.
Obviously the local club comps and schedules all run differently. Wellington have their final tomorrow. BOP still have two weeks to go and have named a 50 strong training group only so far as have HB

Angel Mulu was BOP, so must have transferred to Wellington.

The Waikato women's final is this weekend. I assume a squad will follow.

@Stargazer Yeah from Hawke's Bay, Kelsyn McCook is from Taranaki, 3 more players from Otago adding to the 4 that were already there. They do like to bring in players from out of town

@NateHill74 Yes, that's true, but the difference is that Otago often benefits from having a University, which attracts players from other provinces (for example: Teilah Ferguson, Rosie Kelly). We normally only lose players and many of them don't come back (again: Teilah Ferguson, who's now in the Wellington squad.

Waikato probably names their squad after this game.

You’d think they’d name the squad before the pre-season like most others?

@mikedogz theres a CM pre season with BOP this weekend.
                            BOP officially announce squad tomorrow.

They probably have internally, but not officially to the public. Maybe a team for this game gets named later in the week.

Waikato have named two wider training squads for their game against Auckland. I assume this is the new coaching group too.

I've not seen the Auckland, Waikato and North Harbour squads, yet, so I assume they still have to be named.

If I heard correctly the commentators referred to Victoria Subritzky-Nafatali as a Northland player.

No Iritana Hohaia in the Taranaki squad. Unless she has been poached.

                                                      Iritana Hohaia

Was unavailable for tonight's Black Ferns' trials, too.

                                                      Just saw the article below:

One of the documentaries follows Iritana Hohaia, a former Black Ferns rugby player and her journey in joining the police.

Iritana is from Ōpunake and began playing club rugby at Coastal as a child. She was a member of the gold-medal-winning New Zealand sevens team at the Youth Olympics in 2018, scoring a try in the final victory over France.

She was Taranaki Whio's Player of the Year in 2019.

After suffering an injury last year, she had to look at another career besides rugby.

"I was high-tackled, which compressed my kidneys and resulted in renal failure. After that, I had to really consider what I would do next."

She says she is passionate about working for people, and joining the police force is a way she could do that.

"I'm in the early stages of joining the police force and am heading away to Police College on August 1 to complete four months of training in Wellington."

She says filming the documentary was a journey and feels lucky to show people how supportive her family are.

"They've always supported me in everything I do and that support is something I cherish dearly.

Iritana hopes her story resonates with others and encourages them to join the police.

"It shows the obstacles I've faced and what I had to do to overcome them. Everyone has faced challenges in their life and these videos show different challenges some of us have faced and how we were able to join the force."

Waikato beat Auckland 17-14 in their pre-season game in Taupiri. Both teams would have been missing plenty of their regular players.

A large squad, because Waikato will lose players to the Black Ferns and Fiji. Good to see the return of RWC final hat-trick try-scorer Toka Natua. No Chyna Hohepa.

Squad sizes really vary don't they? Some are about 32/33, some high 30s and this one in the 40s

Are the BFs out for two games or three? There's a home game against Oz but I'm not sure when the return one is.

Edit: I see it's the following weekend. So probably out for three weeks and back for semi finals.
If they are a week in BF camp the Canterbury/Waikato game will be second string, Auckland have a bye then Waikato. The week they are in Oz will be interesting as Waikato, Auckland and Canterbury will all be understrength a bit more than their opponents.
Saying that, there have been far more players that have played for BFs this year then they will take into camp.

That Waikato team is very strong where it counts (front row, halves and fullback) with plenty of quality around that. Hard to see them not being around at the end.
I'm following BoP this year and they have the bye first round. First game is against the Poo (who have a very tough first game for newcomers from the Championship. Talk about diving in at the deep end)
