Barbarians dominating thus far. Highlanders not having possession, which is a pity, because they have the advantage of the wind in the first half.
Penalty Josh Jacomb and the Barbarians are on the board.
Barbarians U21 3 - 0 Highlanders U20
-
Great driving maul from the Highlanders at the other side of the field and Semesi Tupou-Ta'eiloa dots down.
Cam Millar kicks the conversion.
Barbarians U21 3 - 7 Highlanders U20
-
The Highlanders are ahead on the scoreboard but the Barbarians are playing better.
-
Fabish, so close to scoring! Held up!
-
That Broughton at eight for the babaas is a heck of a player. He reminds me a fair bit of Elliot Dixon.
-
Another Barbarians line-out maul and Nikora Broughton scores.
Barbarians U21 8 - 7 Highlanders U20
-
@SouthernMann Broughton, Fabish and Nonu are the three best players on the field.
-
@Stargazer I watch an interview with Tom Donnelly the other day who said the Highlanders made the decision to keep the squad in club rugby. So seems their prep time hasn't been as good as other teams. A lot of individual talent in there. Just not combining well at the moment.
-
@SouthernMann The Barbarians players haven't had much time together either. They come from all over the country.
-
Fabian Holland scores for the Highlanders U20s!
Cam Millar converts
Half time: Barbarians U21 8 - 14 Highlanders U20
-
@Stargazer yeah understand the concept of the babaas team... I'm quite disappointed with how the Highlanders have played so far, especially with the talent in the backline. Really want to see Faleafaga, Asi and Hurley have a go.
-
Great break Nonu. It's Mason Milhan who scores the try in the corner.
Josh Jacomb kicks a great conversion.Barbarians U21 15 - 14 Highlanders U20
-
Good penalty kick from Cam Millar.
Barbarians U21 15 - 17 Highlanders U20
-
Fantastic try to the Barbarians! Great kick from Jacomb and Joel Cobb gets a good bounce and scores.
Jacomb converts.
Barbarians U20 22 - 17 Highlanders U20
-
How has Gavigan gone at prop @Stargazer? He’s another one on the Canes radar.
-
@Canes4life Not really catching the eye. The Barbarians' strength clearly in the backrow, not the frontrow.
-
Awesome try!!! That looks from Tony Brown's playbook except that it's a Barbarians try!
Quick tap from O'Connor, backward kick from Broughton and Gualter scores!
Jacomb converts.
Barbarians U21 29 - 17 Highlanders U20
-
Now a try to the Highlanders left winger, Asi.
Millar converts.
Barbarians U21 29 - 24 Highlanders U20
-
Try to Tiaki Fabish! Well-deserved.
Jacomb converts.
Barbarians U21 36 - 24 Highlanders U20
-
Barbarians so dominant, even more so in this second half.
Try to reserve LH prop Tupou Lea'aemanu. Jacomb converts.
Barbarians U21 43 - 24 Highlanders U20
-
So many handling errors from the Highlanders. Some real coach killers.
-
Full time: Barbarians U21 43 - 24 Highlanders U20
Deserved win to the Baabaas, with several players standing out, but Hato Pāora College product & of Plenty player Nikora Broughton the clear Man of the Match.
Am a bit disappointed with the Highlanders U20s' performance. They have some names in their squad but they didn't perform well.
-
I've just watched a recording of this game. It is a good idea to make the Barbarians U21 as they are a much stronger team with players who have another year of development under their belts. I wouldn't be surprised to see them win at least one of their remaining games.
Agree about Gualter's try. Keeping the Baabaas spirit alive.
