Ok c'mon Canes' men how we going to go this week, it was a bloody good touch up Brumbies gave us a few weeks back!

We will go in as underdogs. Just the way we like it

And get smashed, like almost every other time in Canberra, sadly
-
@Machpants I'm generally an optimist, but have to be realistic about the Canes' chances and I'm afraid you're right. I just really hope they put up a good fight. Start with getting the right XV and bench.

Yup. My expectations are modest to say the least

Brumbies are a different beast in the Canberra, especially in the cold and it’s going to take something big to knock them over. The Canes do play well as underdogs so who knows.
I see this as being the most likely 23 based on recent selections:
- Mafileo
- Coles
- Lomax
- Blackwell
- Walker-Leawere
- Howden
- Kirifi
- Savea (c)
- Perenara
- Morgan
- Rayasi
- Barrett
- Sullivan
- Savea
- Moorby
- Aumua
- Rakete-Stones
- Franks
- Sangster
- Iose/Gibson
- Roigard
- Love
- Proctor

Just missing Caleb Delany, who was possibly the Hurricanes best forward against the Force!

Yep to even imagine winning it would be like someone like Moana Pasifika thinking they could beat them!!! Why did I even start this thread .
We might be underdogs, but I never say we won't do it!!! -
Canes should feel quietly confident I think.
They created plenty in their regular season game but just failed to convert.
Brumbies have hardly been in brilliant form.
Will prob come down to if Canes tight 5 can hold their own.

Does anyone know who's on the plane to Canberra from Wellington. I suspect those players will start or be involved on match day.
-
Don't discount the hometown factor. The crowd is notoriously vocal and one-eyed so only the very best referees aren't impacted accordingly. Unfortunately there aren't many competent refs.

The Canes will have to be perfect on the night. Even then that might not be enough. I can't ever remember us winning in Canberra in the regular season let alone the playoffs

This is on rinse and repeat every single season…
Even when they had Tialata, Hore and Jason Eaton in their tight 5, their tight 5 were under the microscope!
-
I think we bet them in a quarter final over there in 2017, before going down to the Lions in Jo-burg.
They knocked us out last year and obviously beat us there this year so hopefully we can turn the tide.
If we play to our full potential I reckon the lads can do it. Just need to win the battle upfront which is going to be a big ask.
-
Parsons is tipping the Hurricanes.
-
I think Canes will get home depending on who the Ref is.
-
Referee: Paul Williams
Assistant Ref 1:Mike Fraser
Assistant Ref 2:Mike Winter
TMO :Richard Kelly -
So they fly 4 Kiwi officials over to Aust for this game.

There’s this mystical thing that happens as referees fly over the Tasman, its as if it doesn’t matter where they come from and neutrality distills upon them. Just another wonder of this amazing competition.

"Jordie Barrett, Isaia Walker-Leawere, Tyrel Lomax, Ruben Love, and Julian Savea - all rejoining the team in the Australian capital and available for selection".

Need to be very solid in the set pieces, also be really aggressive at the breakdown... do those things with the dangerous backs we have & it should be a good win for the Canes.

It will also be a game of two halves.

Good to see that all those players are available... yeah, makes more sense to have 6 teams in play-offs next time.

As long as a game of two halves favours us on the scoreboard at the end of the match

No it doesn’t. I hate the Aussie way of preliminaries etc while some teams rest
-
@Crucial Agree, the Top 14 has it, too.

I prefer it. Some benefit to having won during the round robin stage. Top teams can still do a "Souths 1989" and not make the final.

Thank you captain obvious.
-
@Stargazer No Valetini for Brumbs
-
@KiwiMurph I was about to post that aswell. The Brumbies look a lot less menacing without him there.
Jahrome Brown on the bench aswell which is surprising.
-
Sullivan injured?
-
@Bones what makes you think that?
-
@Canes4life said in QF Brumbies vs Hurricanes:
@Bones what makes you think that?
The same as me? Procter Love and Rayasi in the team ahead of him.
Brumbies are nowhere as potent without Valetini. -
-
@Bones interesting selections. Most of them I agree with but would have probably started Sullivan over Proctor, Delany over Gibson, and Goosen over Savea.
Sangster also misses out after a strong season which is a shame for him.
Hopefully that team can do the business, plenty of firepower with Aumua, Iose, Love and Goosen to come on late.
-
Canes team is:
- Mafileo
- Coles
- Franks
- Blackwell
- Walker-Leawere
- Gibson
- Kirifi
- Savea
- Perenara
- Morgan
- Rayasi
- Barrett
- Proctor
- Savea
- Moorby
Reserves
16. Aumua
17. Rakete-Stones
18. Lomax
19. Delany
20. Iose
21. Booth
22. Love
23. Goosen -
@Canes4life Sullivan over Proctor would seem a no brainer to anyone, even stranger that he hasn't made the bench. Got to be unavailable.
Still, nice to not have pages of Prinsep moaning, even Blackwell has been given a pass...
