Changes in the backline see Hazel Tubic earn her first start a first five-eighths, with captain Ruahei Demant moving out to second five-eighths.
Demant replaces Chelsea Semple who was not available for selection due to illness, while Du Plessis replaces Kelsey Teneti who has returned to the Black Ferns Sevens programme.
After powerful performances off the bench last weekend, Luka Connor, Tanya Kalounivale, Joanah Ngan-Woo and Tafito Lafaele are all promoted to the starting pack. -
I like the changes they've made.
Strange that they selected Teneti in the squad, only for her to go back to the Black Ferns 7s after the first test match.
-
Maybe some players weren't available through illness for the Aust game, so some selections were forced upon them.
Fluhler will be the centre when the RWC rolls around so these games are about looking for her backup.
Let's hope that the weather is better.

I think they are keeping a very open mind still and using this series to experiment in a few areas.
They probably also have some squad number restrictions and will be moving players in and out to keep within caps.
Player identification is going deep. Not just for the RWC but for the future. Coaches have been attending club matches and watching players that are a couple of years away but on the radar.
All good signs for development and good to see that they have a wider vision than just later this year. -
Where and when's this on free to air, or was that only the v Ozzie game?
-
@Machpants I've been trying to find it, but it looks like TV3 is not broadcasting the game delayed or a replay.
-
Okay, I think I've found it. World Rugby is streaming the Pacific Four Series on it YouTube Channel, but these streams are geo-blocked for countries like NZ, Canada, Australia and possibly the USA. If you are outside these countries, you're likely to be able to watch the livestream. In NZ etc, you'll have to try a VPN.

I will see what kind of mood I am in for weekend rugby watching after tonight's game before shelling out to Spark.
NZR doing rugby fans a dis-service by selling out to another broadcaster. Just stick with one FFS -

23 Alysha Corrigan (Charlottetown, PEI) - CRFC/SaracensThere's a smattering of very Saffa looking names in that list. Is that a Canadian rugby scene thing?
-
@Crucial If you mean the names Beukeboom, Holtkamp and De Goede, then those are not Saffa names, but Dutch. There are a lot of Dutch immigrants in Canada.
-
@Stargazer said in Black Ferns v Canada:
@Crucial Which names do you mean?
Beukeboom, De Goede for example. Not saying they are imports (Google confirms they aren't) just wondering if there is a rugby scene in Canada of Saffa descent and origin.

Thanks. Thought it would be one or the other. I didn't realise there were lots of Dutch in Canada to be honest and the Saffa/Rugby thing seemed the more likely.
-
Wiki says that Tyson Beukeboom is the daughter of 4-time Stanley Cup winner Jeff Beukeboom (Oilers, Rangers).
-
de Goede also sounded familiar. Her father Hans de Goede was a lock and the captain of Canada at the 1987 RWC. He is Dutch-born.
-
The conditions aren't as bad as last game, fortunately.
-
Not sure the officiating is going to be better. Already a clear forward pass from the Canadians missed.
-
Watching on World Rugby YouTube with VPN working well, btw.
-
I was a bit distracted, but NZ lead 3 - 0. Don't know whether Cocksedge or Tubic kicked the penalty.
-
Wrong thread, but who won the earlier game?
-
Another penalty and Tubic is the kicker. 6 - 0 NZ
-
@Bovidae USA beat Australia 16 - 14.
-
Livestream:
-
Still too many mistakes, but BFs playing better than in the first game. Also a better opponent, obviously.
-
Great scrum from the BFs. Dominating.
-
Du Plessis gets away with a penalty only for a low-danger neckroll (not sure exactly which words the officials used).
-
Great driving maul from the Canadians. Advantage Canada now, because BFs collaps. BFs giving away too many penalties. Now one of the new props (3).
-
Good defence from the BFs there; Canada knock the ball on, on the BFs 22. NZ scrum.
-
Arrgghh, so close. Great line-out, Tafito Lafaele going for a run and is stopped just before the try line. Kalounivale knocks on.
-
The BFs are playing with the wind in their back.
Now a bad line-out NZ. Penalty Canada and someone is going to the bin. Yep, Kalounivale off. Someone else will be going off, too, because they'll need a prop for the scrum.
-
Ngan-Woo is a strong player. Great defence from her and Roos.
Injury treatment for Pip Love (I think).
-
I'd like to teach Scott Stevenson how to pronounce Beukeboom, because his pronunciation is not even close.
-
Commentators saying Waitakere Stadium is almost full. Not sure how many seats it has, but good to hear.
-
Demant is a far better 12 than she is a 10. Maybe also a factor that she isn't responsible for game management, with Tubic next to her.
-
Awesome kick from Tubic.
-
Am I the only one watching?
-
That's a pity. Great attack BFs, but Tupic throws the ball into touch. Looked forward, too.
-
I may be without power soon. Lights flickering, terrible weather outside.
