Fotu an excellent pickup.
Le’afa probably didn’t deliver what the Phoenix wanted this past season with almost double the minutes from last season.
Gliddon is very streaky.
Rupert is not dissimilar to Dieng - long arms, athletic, likes to take guys off the dribble in isolations.
Saw a few of Rupert’s games when he played at Northwestern, he’s a good rebounder and will provide a bit of rim protection with his huge reach.
We need a slasher / someone that can create their own shot in one of those open spots.
-
In the local NBL I read that Kirk Penney will be an injury replacement for the Auckland Tuatara for the rest of the season.

geez, he's gotta be in his 40s surely?
-
@mariner4life 41.
There is an article here too, which explains the reasoning for signing Penney.
-
41, turning 42 later this year. Good luck KP!
He’s always been the consummate pro in taking care of his body ever since his Wisconsin days.
One of my favourite ballers ever.
-
Not NBL, but the Tall Blacks are in action in the Asian Cup.
Won our first game easy against India but in a tight one right now against Lebanon. Down 36-39 at HT.
It’s a very young side. Young Flynn Cameron is a starter.
-
No good. We lose by 14. Couldn’t contain their good guard Arakji. And we just turned the ball over way too much - 15 turnovers to 3. Plus our foul shooting sucked as well.
-
We are hanging around in this semi-final. Can’t hit shots though.

Is the game on in NZ?
-
On ESPN in Oz.
Tall Blacks read my post, they’ve gone on a great little run. We were down 14 when I posted and now only down 6 😎
-
Jordie Hunt is playing huge for us. Need one of our guards to start firing.
-
Maker with a poster. Oz go on a run and it’s back to 10 point lead.
-
Far out we are looking like a rec league team in the last 2 minutes - turnovers and missing wide open shots.
-
We’ve started the 4th very well. Just over 7 minutes to go and we are only down 5. Passing is miles better and we are making shots.
-
Timmons is having a big quarter so far. Doing everything for us.
Although Oz killing us on the offensive boards.
-
Our half court offence has gotten far too stagnant. Flynn is dancing with the ball too much and putting pressure on other guys late in the shot clock.
75-69 OZ with 3:40 to go.
-
Perot-Hunt yeah baby. 4 point play.
-
Maker with a huge 3 and Oz back up by 5
-
Now McDowell-White hits a sweet one from the corner.
Oz up 81-73. 2:33 to go.
-
Tohi hits a big 3.
81-76 OZ. 54 seconds to go.
-
McDowell-White with another big 3.
84-76
-
Some hard lessons for a few of our younger guys down the stretch.
We were right there and really troubled the Boomers.
-
We eventually lose 85-76. Very good game and both teams showed what they were capable of.
We played above ourselves. Now we go to the bronze medal match.
-
@ACT-Crusader I was surprised when I heard the result as this is more like a C team. Good to build some depth though.
-
The other semi-final had everything, even a bit of a scuffle after the game 😉
Lebanon beat Jordan by 1 point.
Lebanon will give Oz some trouble.
Jordan are tough and have gotten better as the tournament has progressed. We will have to play strong to beat them.
-
Wow, that was an up and down game. Smith-Milner on fire in the second half. Tall Blacks get the win and 3rd place. Doing one better than the last Asian Cup when we came 4th.
Jordan was lights out in the first half and got out to a good lead. But then Smith-Milner caught fire from 3.
We almost coughed it up after hitting the lead with some poor turnovers, but Jordan also did some dumb stuff.
Congrats to Pero and the team. Great tournament and the pleasing thing is that we lost two games all tournament against the two teams in the Grand Final.
-
The Breakers have signed an American import PF - Jarrell Brantley. He has NBA experience with the Jazz.

Good to get someone with pro experience. The kids preparing for the draft aren't good enough to help us compete
-
@Bovidae Brantley was the leading scorer for the Jazz G-league side a couple of seasons ago, so we will be able to go to him to get a bucket.
The roater looks pretty good. A few question marks are how much production out of Loe, the next stars are hit and miss, shooting.
-
I haven't seen any of the Breakers pre-season games but I don't think they have won many, if any. The clash with rugby for tomorrow's season opener in Melbourne doesn't help either. No Abercrombie for a couple of months due to his eye injury.

IMHO Tom has been a bit of a shadow of his former self for some time

Abercrombie has had a lot of injuries in recent seasons, so hasn't played much. He is still considered the Breakers premier defender.
-
We are playing well. United lead 69-67 at 3QT
Pardon, Loe, Brown Jnr, WMW are all playing well.
Defensively a massive step up from last season.

Much improved on the O end too. I'm loving the motion, lots of screening, rolling and cutting. Goulding is still a fluffybunny
-
It's all tied up with 9 seconds to go and United have the ball. I'm loving the effort, this Pardon guy is a real battler. And Golding misses a midrange J so we go to OT
-
Get stuffed that was a shot clock violation. Breakers screwed by refs.
-
Two turnovers from our 7 and that's the game. Loved the effort, if we can play like this often we will do okay
-
Arggghhhhhhhh
